Thanks for reading. :)

  • I hope they bring this back for 18.
  • It's time for it to come back.
I just hope they don't give another gimmick instead of doing a long-term mode.

Winter Classic, World Cup, etc. All big wastes of time. Nice to have on the box, but does anyone really play them more than once? Or at all?
  • I post one of these every chance I get.. NO MORE EXCUSES ITS TIME TI BRING BACK A
    GM CONNECTED THAT ACTUALLY WORKS
  • +1......
  • Madden franchise is connected and it's awesome. All in one mode, can play solo or add people to your league. No reason for any mode to not be online (roster share) in 2017.

This is the part that puzzles me the most. If Madden can make a properly functioning GMC type mode, why can't NHL? I understand that with a smaller development team it takes more time, but the mode has been absent for 3 games now.

My best guess is that the mode was too ambitious the first time around (750 players in 1 league), which is why the mode had the performance issues it had. That being said, I'm assuming the Xbox One/PS4 will be much more capable of running a mode such as GMC (with the 750 player capacity).

Even with the performance issues of previous generation, this mode was definitely worth your time if you found enough people with a good commissioner.

I think you hit the nail on the head by saying EA may have been too ambitious. Allowing for up to 750 players in each connected league was insane. All I would like to see is a GM Connected league that allows for up to 30 (or 31 with Vegas added) user controlled teams.

I won't go into a litany of items that would make GM Connected a more practical and feasible endeavor for the people behind the scenes at EA NHL Hockey, other than to simply point them to the old 2K9/10 and yes, even 2K11 on the Wii, to see exactly how a great GM Connected mode can be done. The functionality that 2K gave to each league via the individual online websites that were generated with each league was/is second to none.
  • EA will never admit it but they dropped the ball on GMC on old gen... The dreamed too big and tried to make it like EASHL drop in but with real NHL players very few people want to play that style of game mode with actual NHL players. They wasted resources to build it like that instead of focusing on 1v1 style of play with 1 GM for each franchise. Maybe if they had focused on that they could of put more resources into fluid menus and less bugs within the entire mode.

The menu's alone are why people didnt enjoy the mode and didnt continue playing it, when it took 20-30 seconds to switch teams on the contract screen no 1 wants to waste their time for that.

Now EA has these very powerful new generation consoles and they dont even want to bring a mode that would excel with this consoles. Instead they keep pushing HUT down our throats with all these sets and suped up player cards. The last few years i have been playing HUT since summer time this year i have stopped before xmas cause the mode sucks balls.

Bring back GMC give us the option to have shorter seasons that would do alot for completing more seasons and and better development of new prospects entering the league. Have an option for a set salary cap that doesnt grow each season where teams have to actually make smart signings/resignings or risk losing a player to FA.... last time FA was pointless as no 1 ever lost top players as the cap grew each and every year.

So much potential to the mode but EA drops the ball.... give as many options as possible so each league can be unique and attract players
  • If they put in the same effort for GM connect that they do for HUT... That would be great. Because HUT Is **** ****
  • Great post, scottiesk.
  • EA went on record before NHL 13 came out, saying that "GMC was one of the top requested community features". It shouldn't really be a surprise, seeing that "GM Connected" threads have been popping up on the forums every year since NHL 15.

That interest didn't just suddenly die out once the mode was added into the game, the execution was poor. EA didn't see inactivity in the mode because "no one really likes the mode", the inactivity was because of the many performance issues the mode had.

Like Scottie said, with the new consoles you should be able to implement the mode the way it was originally intended to be in the game. Even then, if you removed the 750 player cap and made it strictly GM only, I doubt you'd get many complaints.

To me this mode is another social way to play NHL that added to the longevity of NHL 13 and 14. If the mode is implemented correctly, you'll definitely have a significant number of people playing.
