The true problem with this game.

Prev1
I think after playing EASHL again tonight, i have discovered the true problem with this game.

Its not the game itself, Its the people who play it...

Now hear me out. my buddy and I try to play as realistic hockey as we can/the game allows. We are constantly getting beat by chessers (for lack of a better term) who would rather just constantly skate down the boards throw it at the goalie for an unrealistic rebound.

I mean yes its programmed in there so it is technically the games fault, but people exploit it. Thats the true problem.

The community is the true problem with this game.

  • The win at all cost mentality your right about that But and the end of the day it's just a video game just enjoy it don't let it get to you
  • I enjoy it when i lose to people who play actual hockey as well which is very rare.

Hard to enjoy a video game thats marketed as a hockey sim when people exploit the same play over and over because its unrealistic and broken. all you have to do to not constantly try that play is be a decent human being.
  • This is why I don't play online. It's junk!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? You mean to tell me that you can play this game and have fun doing so without having to be a immature child in the process? I feel ya mate, I'd rather lose 8-0 to a MATURE Adult playing a MATURE game than win 8-0 vs a immature child.

It is just a video game after all but that doesn't mean you should go about ruining someone else's fun by being a immature child (you know as well as I do that there are people out that play the game JUST to troll the game and be an a**hat in the process). This is why I STOPPED playing the game completely.

Sadly EA CREATED this culture because they allow these exploits to continue to happen year in and year out. The WIN AT ALL COST attitude + Immature Children + EA doing NOTHING to fix the exploits = a game that is no longer fun to play
  • I don't think unrealistic rebounds are the problem.
  • No it's not. It would be like that if said banks left the vault doors open to anyone come in and help themselves to the cash & valuables, while the bank manager just grinned stupidly by.
  • No it's the poor dev team that's the problem, they are ten years behind 2k7 ... Barely do anything year to year, refuse to see the problems , are blind to the issues, like all ea games don't care about glitches and exploits . They seem to have no clue into game mechanics , spew a bunch of mumbo jumbo excuses, someone proves them wrong with a video and then more mumbo jumbo excuses . They never fix the problems just band aid fixed leaving scars and not properly fixing the gaping wounds in this game.

    Bad logic is bad
People play the game the way its MADE to be played. Me and my club are like you...we like a more realistic playstyle. The reality is most of our realistic plays ended in miracle on ice saves after beating the D while our cheese shots are what gave us wins in the end. We got bored and all stopped buying the game. Not because of players...because the game just didnt satisfy our needs and expectations anymore.

So the real issue is the game, not the people. The game over the year punished everyone playing realistic hockey and rewarded everyone who had poor vision and did the same 2 wrist shots all game.

In the past, the cheese worked, but guess what, all kinds of other ways worked too. So you could play with "your strategy" and be effective. Some strategies were better than other and the best players were able to change the strategy and adapt to the opponent (IE: Against some teams, cross crease could get you 20 goals but against other teams, 0 cross crease would go in so you needed to adjust and try different ways to score)

its 100% the game that sucks right now...the players online only ever cared about winning at all cost....its not gonna change....you will always face the 8 year old 10iq kids who's self confidence in life hang by a thread which is based on winning a lot at a game. at least, if you have options to fight back your way instead of being funneled in the same playstyle as them in a borrriiinnnng cheese fest, the game can be enjoyable again.

That's like saying the people who created banks are responsible for bank robberies because they decided to house people's money in one place.

If people weren't morons, online would be alright. This is why LG and X1HL are so popular.

How so Kory? Has EA offered any way to counter a player holding stick out to either side (as it physically passes through the boards). You can't poke the puck away in that situation, you can't **** hit that player (cause they bounce right off OR they fall down but pick puck right back up again)

to the bold part: I agree with Sgt_Kelso here. Banks keep money in a guarded safe vault, they don't just allow people to walk in and go into the vault and take what they want. EA allowing these immature children to abuse the hold RS to either side as the puck/stick disappear physically through the boards and NOT FIXING IT or NOT GIVING THE OPPOSITION A WAY TO DEFEND AGAINST THAT MOVE is utter bullsheet. Banks secure peoples money in a guarded safe vault for what purpose...to keep people from stealing it...they are being PROACTIVE in their DEFENSE of Robberies! What does EA do to prevent holding RS to the side and stick/puck physically pass through the boards??? NOT A GOD D@MN THING!! IF you ELIMINATED that bullsheet in the FIRST PLACE, the immature kiddies wouldn't have it at their disposal to use, right??

Clearly my metaphor game is awful.

Happens to the best of us mate...lol!
  • I don't see there being any real 'true' problem with this game....just a multitude of annoyances. Yes, trolls and cheesers don't make for a very online experience but this is beyond EA's control. Even with a game that runs near-perfect with the majority of the fan base happy you would still have players that find a way to exploit things.
  • I'll just reiterate that this game rewards those who cheese over those who attempt to play realistic hockey. You can cycle, screen, posses the puck for long periods of time in their end while shooting all kinds of amazing chances at the goalie while he makes spectacular save after save. Finally your opponent comes down, fakes left, shoot short side right unscreened from just over the blue-line, your goalie is sleeping at the wheel, and the puck goes in the net. Fun game!

How is this Beyond EAs control?? They CAN control it IF THEY WANTED TO. PUNISH those that abuse Exploits and Cheese. IF the Cheese and Exploits ARE NOT THERE TO BEGIN WITH, they won't be there at their disposal to be used and abused in the first place, correct?? PREVENTATIVE Maintenance

You get married, buy a house with a nice backyard, you have a child, child grows up a few years and wants to start playing outside. So with that said: Small child is playing in the backyard, how do you prevent said child from wandering outside your yard, You what?? ....BUILD A FENCE around your yard, thus taking PREVENTATIVE Measures for it to NOT HAPPEN in the FIRST PLACE right? No fence = Child is free to wander. Fence = child can only roam within the parameters of the fenced in area

TAKE AWAY the Invincibility bubble when holding RS to either side
TAKE AWAY the ability to hold RS to either side and then ride the boards (making the puck/stick physically pass through the boards...ie IMPOSSIBLE to be hit or poke checked)
TAKE AWAY the ability to figure skate without consequences (fatigue)
TAKE AWAY the ability to bulldoze a player after the whistle without consequences (2min Delay of game Penalty + an extra 2min for EVERY player you run over after the whistle)
TAKE AWAY the ability to shoot the puck after the whistle without consequences (2min Delay of game Penalty + an extra 2min for every time you poke check or slash at the goalie)

These may seem like very minor things (but it is a start at how to CONTROL this behavior) but these are very reasonable ways to CONTROL the Online experience and EA can do it, just a matter IF they want to or not!
  • This game really needs work not a lot of realism bogus puck recoveries. Puck warps so cpu can score. A.I. Teammates are absolute idiots. & these tuner updates dont fix jack!
  • The truth is that different features attract different people. So if you want mature, more civilized fan base, you should probably care less about features or modes for kids (mentally) or just idiots and rather focus on the core of the gameplay and presentation.

It's EAs choice which group they'll prefer.

  • Its not the game itself, Its the people who play it..

You will always have cheesy players, it's unavoidable. But also, there are some god awful players that think they're great, they ruin the game almost as much. A lot of players need to take a step back and learn the basics, stop trying to be an all-star. dangle, dangle, turnover, dangle, dangle, turnover, dangle, dangle, turnover.. If this is your game summary, I'm talking about you.

    Absolutely, 100% correct.

These same god awful players generate discussions about how things are 'broken' and you just shake your head.

actually, the majority of the players who i've seen complain on here are good players so ?
