Why do players constantly whiff on shots?
Seriously. I can completely miss a slap shot even though I'm gliding at 1/3 speed. How is this still an issue in 2017? Even pee wee players connect on pucks better than players in this game. Don't even get me started on One-Timers.

It's not broken because you can't slap the puck around the boards. Go in to a glide, wind up and slap it. The whole process is done in less than a second.
Position yourself correctly and you'll pick up the puck more. I rarely fan on slap shots and one timers. They take more skill now. I'm not saying that this never happens to me, but definitely not at the rate you guys are complaining. Since when do you never see a shot fanned on in a real game? The puck is a loose object reacting to the physics according to the situation. You also need to handle it appropriately. Kind of like a real player would.
But you see missing one-timers a lot in EASHL, in fact I would say over 50% of shots tried are missed completely in the games we play. It doesn't matter what your position or speed is, you whiff on one-timers even when you're not moving and are holding the vision control. It's due to lag obviously. Lag makes EASHL hilariously bad at times.
This game is such a hot mess, I wonder why people even bother this time of year, when it's obvious this isn't gonna get any better? And next year will be just more of the same, most likely...
The game isn't without its issues, but fanning on shots doesn't seem to be one of them. Whether it's EASHL or HUT, they're rare in my experience and don't seem to indicate that anything is broken.
The problem with AI is they have no awareness the ai having no awareness of what stick hand they are and what angle the puck is coming to them at, doesn't help with one timers. They also have no idea that the pass trajectory is pointing to one player, one he may be well positioned, but another player will swoop and take it or just crash into the intended receiver , holding pass longer doesn't mean pass assist will pass it to the further guy.
I whiff on slow passes right in my wheel house, even seen them go right through my stick blade, and I'm using a sniper build. As fas as shots fanned on in real games, I think the last sharks-caps game the other night, I saw it once, and that was basically when Pavelski had no balance and was pretty much falling to the ice. Even if I don't try and one time it, the puck often just bobbles over my stick. Love how players can pick up a stretch pass with their back turned though, but soft passes 20 feet across the ice and a player has issues corralling it or connecting on a 1 timer.
while i agree with your sentiment ... we all have to acknowledge that the system is very broken. You can do everything perfect. Be sitting still, opened up toward the pass, have the puck coming right to your stick and for various reason (lag, random ea, puck disrupted, etc...) it passes right through you while you swing and miss. That's bad but that's not what's broken. What's broken is how you skate around for the next 10 seconds stuck in that animation swinging and missing at the puck when all you're trying to do is pick it up and skate away.
This is a silly and hyperbolic response Kory. Nobody wants 100% accuracy, or anything close to it. The game does have a huge problem with players whiffing on one timers way to often when they are wide open and not pressured. Your response ignores that entirely so you can admire the strawman you built. You always tell others to keep their tone respectful, and then you post some nasty, sarcastic and fallacious nonsense? C'mon, that's a mighty bit of hypocrisy don't you think?
Nice dude, because that's exactly what I want in this game!
Answer me honestly. When is the last time you saw a player whiff on a slapper while skating in a straight line? Seriously? That **** only happens in low tier beer league hockey, not the god damn NHL. I understand if you're figure skating around and spinning everywhere you're likely to not connect on a shot but I'm not talking about that garbage. The fact that it's possible to glide into the zone and miss a slapshot at all is complete **** and would never happen in a hockey game.
Also players have asked for the puck to be more loose. Well you got what you asked for.
Yes, the puck is loose but that stuff still never happens in real life.
Well I remember correctly when the puck was magnetic people complained about the slapshot because if you did it right you could do a complete spin to avoid the poke check while faking a slapshot for an easy move. I actually remember the crap that gets said on these forums. So they fixed that by making the puck more lively.
Slow down and then crank it around the boards with good body position. Not rocket sicence
It doesn't take perfect body position to reliably connect on a slapshot in real life. There needs to be a little bit of leeway so we can avoid those aforementioned spin slappers, but not need to perfectly align ourselves to take a simple slapshot while gliding.
