Imposed Losing Streaks "In the Game"?

Prev1
Picked up the game in Feb and have been slowly building my team over the past several weeks. Overall Team Stats: 96 OFF, 95 DEF, 92 GOA. Synergies activated: X-Ray Vision; Wrecking Crew; Level-Headed Leadership; Two-Way Player. Made it straight to D1 winning the division title for all but D1 along the way. Been in D1 for the past couple of weeks now, typically playing a few games a day. Obviously once you get to D1 the games change drastically, but I continued to win about 7 out of 10 games consistently, up until yesterday. Here's what I've experienced since then:
-Absolute inability for my players to score. Open slot shots hit the post or go feet wide, despite High-90s shot accuracy ratings with X-Ray vision synergy activated. Wide open 1-t's hit the post, have no pace or power behind them, or simply lead to whiffs.
-What I can only call a "magnet effect" surrounding pokechecks - when I poke, 80 per cent of the time it ends up zipping right back to the opposition, or leading to a penalty. Conversely, my opponent pokes and sticklifts until the cows come home and doesn't face more than one penalty per game, typically. Often they are able to pokecheck me from behind without taking a penalty. (ie, through the back of my players' skates)
-Complete inability to win puck battles. My stick literally goes directly through the other players. It would be nice to at least get called for a penalty. The other teams' players are often able to skate directly through several of my players.
-General airheadedness from my players: compelled by some unknown force to skate the exact opposite place they should go.
-Consistently achieving a combination of two or more of: outshooting/winning more faceoffs/greater time on attack, yet losing by one or two goals, typically on a bizarre, late third-period goal.

Can anyone here explain what is going on? Is this something everyone has gone through this year? I've tried changing players, changing strategies, etc. and it's all the same. I've been a D1 player consistently each of the past two years, but strategy/player adjustments have always allowed me to overcome these kinds of slumps. This year seems different.

  • I have this garbage happen to me everyday. There's nothing you can do. I constantly outplay my opponent and it makes no difference. I can tell right away when the game starts if I'm getting the shaft. It's super frustrating. Outshooting your oppent by a huge margin and losing by a cheap goal or 2. But I hit the crossbar 5 times and my A.I players cutting me off going offside and letting players easily step by them etc. Also having my 94 goalie let pathetic goals in when the other team has like 10 shots all game and I get 40 shots and the other goalie makes unreal saves. I lost a game 2-1 the other day against a 82 silver goalie that made the most unreal saves. I had 42 shots the other team had 11 and I had Vernon in net.Seems the better you play the worse it gets. I've had so many shady loses that I can go in forever. It doesn't matter who plays better at all. But I guarantee if I dropped a bunch of money in Hut magically I wouldn't have these problems. But I refuse to pay money for such a flawed game. Funny how any other mode that doesn't have the option of spending money doesnt have half these issues!
  • I hear you both and think the same, even though I've only been in division 2 as highest. I experience exactly the same things as you describe. It's so boring. I don't mind losing if I'm outplayed, but these things make me so frustrated.

Even the best players in the NHL miss passes and hit posts and take a wrong step and let someone get a breakaway. They try to incorporate the randomness into the game. Also you are in d1 I'm in d1 and the skill level and understanding of how this game works of some of these players is insane! You will get it. I have been going back and forth between d1 and d2 since like October it's just how it is.

Try enjoying the game have fun try different things also shoot the opposite way you are skating and put pucks on net good things will happen.

This game can be incredibly frustrating at time and it seems like the odds are stacked against you alot. In reality they aren't and some people are better than you and sometimes you get the lucky bounces and sometimes you don't.
  • Pouring a bunch of money into the game won't make your problems magically get better. And yes the really good players in this game just have that innate ability to know where to position their players. This forces you into taking shots from bad places. The really good players won't even use glitchy goals they'll just beat you into a pulp and make you want to cry.

I don't agree...I'm saying alot of my games I'm deatroying my opponent and this stuff is always happening. I've been playing this game a very long time and I know the difference when I actually play someone really good. I'm frustrated witht he the ton of games where the other player has almost no shots no time in the attack zone and no obvious skill and by some miracle they win. It's ridiculous how many times it happens to me and other players over and over again.

You're in D1 and D2? I've played against you when I was in D3 or D4, seems fair. No wonder you kicked my ****... ;)

I don't think I played you. My gamertag isn't the same as it is on the forums. Also on the Xbox one
  • Guys, no one on the sexbox is any good
  • I saw a post here today about checking the network performance during the in-game intro and making sure the ping is no more than 15 ms. I've been doing that today and my experience has been much more enjoyable. Definitely still plenty of randomness, but as others have said, that's hockey and I'm more than happy to lose to better players. That's how you learn. Anyway, give that a try fellas and see if it helps.

What? The best players are on Xbox PS4 is just a bunch of kids. Easy wins make you feel better ps4 guy >:)
  • I have no easy wins. Toty rask sucks! ****
  • It's a pay to win game, AI will constantly give the player with highest attributes on his team unfair advantage that has nothing to do with skills

There is a lot to be said why you always seems to lose in 3rd period and why you always seems to get penaltys when your opponents does not

The short answear is that EA wants to make sure that the players that spend real money in this game most of the time will win even if they deservs it or not

Your absolutely right. I see the proof all the time. I just had a game against a guy that had no clue how to play and I outshot him 46-5 and in the last period I somehow lost 2-0. Like ****!! This happens to me constantly...its no coincidence. Drives me nuts. No point even playing hut because skill has nothing to do with it. It's pathetic!!!!

I would have to say I disagree with the more you spend the more you win..I say this as this year I actually spend some real money on this game as last year I got super frustrated playing against super teams. This year I put together a pretty nice team, 99, 99, 98 and when I play other "super teams" the games seem to go better but if I match up against someone with a bunch of base players and people I have never heard of they seem to fly around the ice and I can't do anything against them....EA needs to get dedicated servers for this mode for it to solve the problems, I play EAHL as well where EA has the dedicated an never have I yet to have nay issues ini that mode...
  • It makes absolutely no sense that EA would punish you for buying their cards

If you two actually believe this you both have your head in the clouds IMO. I have a stacked team (99,99,98) that I paid for. I am decent at the game, not great (usually stay in Div 2-3). I get beat regularly by players that are better at the game than me regardless of who they have in their lineup. I actually get more concerned on start up when I see a no name player than I do when I see Datsyuk. There are some games that I feel I should win and don't or the odd time I get hugely outplayed and win but it doesn't happen a lot but it also happens in real hockey. I find most of these occur when there are connection issues.

Skill level and connection have everything to do with it. This game is 100% not pay to win, believe me. I have paid, I don't win much more with a stacked team than with a decent one but it is just more fun to play with. It is Ultimate Team after all. The top (legit) players in this game are the top because they have more skill (and usually a good connection), not deeper wallets.

I'm not the one with my head in the clouds. If you read what I wrote I'm talking about drastically out playing my oppent by a huge margin tons of times and all of a sudden in the third period the **** starts. I've seen the exact same thing happen time and time again in the exact same way. I know when I've been beaten because the player was better and I know when I've been beaten by a predetermined game. Its a joke.
  • What EA fails to understand is that slumps should be a result of the actual human-players day to day shape. It should NOT be an implemented mechanic where we loose control of the game.

I was always sick and tired of people writing stuff like "EA are just after money" and such, but after 20 years of playing EA NHL it's become evident that they don't give a #### about creating a good gaming experience.
