Yup, the Pro has been out for over a year now, which there was plenty of time to develop the game for it in 4K. NHL 18 came out in September and the One X came out in November, so they didn't have the "technology" in place yet when the game was made.
Had this not been EA's "red-headed step-child" game they may have had the 4K available the day the X was released. Just speculation there.

I also wish for NHL PC because the modding community has more talent and knows more about hockey than anyone at EA ever will but it’s never going to happen.....give it up already.

Change doesn't usually happen without some kind of push somewhere along the lines. I wonder what the NHL series would look like if the games looked like they were created by devs that had half the passion for quality game-play that some of our forum members do.
I guess in the end as long as the HUT players are happy and spending money then that's all that matters, right EA?
Hopefully they add HDR support to all versions of the game next year. It is in Madden and FIFA, but I also understand implementing HDR is more difficult than bumping the resolution.
For example, Halo 5, which came out in 2015, added variable 4K resolution and made some other enhancements for Xbox One X, but did not add HDR support because it required too much work.
