Interesting video but it in no way explains or would change any of the things we’re experiencing. I appreciate everyone’s input but only EA addressing the questions will really mean anything otherwise it’s just everyone’s opinion.
The problem is they've been getting complaints about unfair play/ice tilt every day for the past years. Every big gaming company gets the same kind of complaints every day. I agree it would be nice to get an input from EA as to why those things might happen, but they wont give us much more than an average username does. Sometimes they just close the thread saying there is no ice tilt.
Recently I've found ways to go through those problems you're talking about and seem to be winning every game now. Soon to be four 1st div titles in a row etc.
I played a lot of NHL offline in the previous years, but this is my first HUT and in the beginning I was yelling at my screen for those exact same things as you are, but now it's easier to anticipate them. First I changed my tactics to the link I posted, then changed the camera angle to overhead and after that it's just learning techniques to avoid the most annoying problems. The opponents do get a lot of the same issues, but in time you figure out how to avoid them.
Sorry if this is wasting thread space and your time, but to answer some of your original posts questions:
I saw an interview from a guy who was 2nd or 3rd in the NHL world championships in Las Vegas and he said that the biggest difference in winning and losing is about who is better at scoring goals. I also sometimes have those games where I feel nothing gets in, but it usually happens when the opponent is able to take away the absolute best places to shoot. There are certain angles and shots that in real life would be a goal scorers dream, but never go in on this game and vice versa. This is why having a solid hockey background might actually be a problem in the beginning, but helpful later on. I felt the forehand short size shots from distance without any screens should never go in, but it's the best shot in the game. Basically getting the goalie to take just a few glides to the opposite direction as your shooting.
For the faceoffs I usually start tapping R2 (PS4) immediately after the face-off and if I lose the draw I'll be able to get control of the right player soon in enough. At first I was struggling with that a lot too and I was constantly letting in those goals where the centre pushes you, winger takes the puck and cross passes it to the open winger. Now defending those is starting to work really well.
You're original posts 2 & 3 are very annoying when they happen, but I usually find that happening when the opponent is very good at poke checking and reading the play. Sometimes I also feel like my players get worse if the opponent is playing with much worse cards (especially goalies), but I rarely lose those games as the opponents players still are worse.
Skating is a lot about anticipating in this game and being quicker to change to the right player and immediately directing them to the right direction. Also taking the exact right skating lanes. When I've lost 7-0 to elite players it feels like they're skating with 198 accelerated players, but they just constantly make these small moves that seem to be the difference.
I know this is not the response you hope for and I agree there are problems with the game (especially AI). But hopefully somewhere there would at least be a small answer to some questions, in case you still want to play and EA wont fix all of those problems.
What i said address every issue your having, Because thousands have experienced these issues and understand how to stop them from happening. Just because you don't doesnt mean theres something wrong with the game. There is a steep learning curve, evetything you've stated is happening to you because of your strategy/play style. Whether you believe it or not its up to you.
Btw if 100,000 people saying its raining outside does that meaning you should bring an umbrella?
Ok. Please explain how skill or strategy prevents my player from picking up a puck? Why he will skate in circles around it sometimes 3 times and just won’t pick it up and the opposition swoops in and skates off with it? Go ahead explain it....
Please explain what skill and strategy has to do with my players freezing and not moving and being unable to take control of them after a faceoff deep in my end? Why it’s 3-5 second lock giving my opponent enough time to win the draw and set up a one timer.....go ahead explain it....
Please explain how skill or strategy has anything to do with my team, despite being 99-99-97 with some of the fastest skaters in the game will skate notably slower than the opposition team made of Brandon Dubinsky, Keith Yandle, Alex Petrovic, etc....explain how a guy with 87 speed and acceleration catches my 99 speed 99 acceleration despite me having at least a 3 stride lead for a breakaway....go ahead explain it.....
Please explain how skill and strategy have anything to do with me losing 7-8 games every round despite dominating attack time and setting up great shots and taking over 30 shots a game but lose 4-1 despite giving up single digit shots.....go ahead explain it.
Explain how I’m on the other side of that to and win a few the same way which is equally no fun...explain it....
Better yet...don’t because you can’t and it’s wasting space in the thread
Please enough with the get better crap. I asked for the his thread to not be derailed and myself and many many many others would like EA to address it. Coming in here with the “it’s you garbage” is insulting to myself and guys who have been playing this game for decades. The issues we are seeing are new starting last year for me and real bad this year. If it’s an AI issue we want to know if they are fixing it....if it’s a bug.....we want to know if it’s going to be patched....if it’s something else we want to know what and why. So keep the get better at the game stuff out of here. It’s not relevant or constructive to the thread.
Thank you
I 100% agree with you on this. I've talked to Easports months ago about this.
I'v had the same thing happening since I bought the game. Went out and bought a new Ps4 pro, upgraded my internet and the same things keep happening. Easports asked me to put up videos , I have and addressed them to Easports. no reply back.
I agree with the fact that players sometimes skate circles around the puck and that’s frustrating but that’s also frustrating for literally everybody as it happens for literally everybody. I hope they fix that, for the record.
Other than that really all you can do is try to get better and that’s not saying you arent already good, that’s just being honest as there is no way that anyone from EA will address the questions you ask. (Leaving my personal opinions out of this).
Playing with the faults of the game instead of being frustrated with it makes a big difference. I agree with all your complaints, been happening to me for years. This year there is definitely something evening the games out. I played almost the entire nhl challenge in a row. It goes through all the difficulties and somewhere in the pro levels all of a sudden the ai started playing like they’re unstoppable And I lose after about 17 wins a row. The next game vs same team same difficulty win with ease. That’s how it feels some games like you ai is set on pro and the opponents is superstar. You can see this in any of the challenges if you having a tough time beating it. Try again the next day or a couple hours later and the same difficulty is so much easier. This also would explain why a player with 85 speed can keep up with a 95
My favourite glitch that you left out is when it won’t let you switch to your dman as the opponent is breaking down on the attack. It just keeps switch between the forwards that aren’t even close to the puck. If it’s the cpu or any half decent human your playing they score every time.
I know, it doesn’t work in this scenario. Doesn’t happen that often but enough to know that somethings up. It’s very similar the the face off where your player just stands there and you can’t switch.
Its like EAs need for speed rubber banding, when you get to far ahead the ai will auto catch up so you dont win to easily , same is applied in NHL except in this case they hinder your players abilities over your opponents. Now scripted isnt the best word for it, its more like handicapped so the other team gets everything to go there way. Things like
Puck pick ups
Poke Checks
Hitting
Speed
Shot Accuracy And Power Etc.
Its basically like the sliders are adjusted to one team every game, theres no consistency ..which is why you can dominate one game and get spanked the next. Obviously you will play someone better and cant win em all but if you play the same guy over and over again you will lose every once and awhile because of this.
I actually did this with a friend, we play 3 games a day everyday and id win some then he would back and forth, now some will say its just hockey or lucky bounces etc but tell me why one game my team can play like there all stars and the next game they are CHL plays at best. One other thing I noticed is how the AI for your opponent literally pokes intercepts stops and blocks every and all your chances, while the player your opponent is controlling just plays center chasing you until his ai corners you for a turnover...thats not skill , thats ea playing the game for you
The purpose of this is to make everyone feel like a winner which in turn will make people wanna keep playing and buying packs . Its all business strategy and EA is one of the biggest out there. There only about the $$ so they will do what ever it takes to keep casuals playing.
Not sure if I have to take my original post back haha. Had a game where I was leading and the opponent quit. Got a loss and I asked EA about it and they sent me connection help for xbox. I Told them I had a ps4 and showed the opponent's recent record which was all "DISC" or "DNF WIN". They replied by sending me another xbox connection instruction... "Thanks guys."
Started HUT champions. My goalie's save percentage after 4 games is less than 50%. Just led a game 3-0 after 10 minutes, shots 8-0 and spent the entire game in his end. He ended up getting 9 shots in the game and won 5-4. On a 4-2 loss 3 goals I scored went under review and they were all ruled no goal. AI went and touched their goalie on a 2vs0 etc. Perhaps the game didn't like my new purchases from the market as I changed 3 players on my usual starting line up.
Maybe the players are just better there, but today the goals conceded + AI movement were absolutely ridiculous. Oh well, maybe it just feels like this when you're on a losing streak. Can't remember ever having a streak like this, even in the games I've lost consecutively before.
EDIT: Just played my 5th Hut Champions. Won 13-1, every player was doing everything right and every pass hit every stick. Weird game this NHL18 haha
Add another question for EA....why are desync punks rewarded season in and season out instead of punished? Just played a guy who is 11-0 in his last 11 ganes with most DNF wins. My connection was fine when we started but amazingly enough I only had connection issues when I had the puck. Sick of the garbage and I love dropping a few thousand points for a loss to a punk who can’t play without cheating. Who says cheaters never win?

You lost to a guy who is 11-0 and lost thousands of points??? Damn that almost seem impossible...

Not points I meant a few thousand in the round standings
Many of us still eagerly await someone from EA to help us out here with an explanation
You probably will be waiting a long time. These issues have been discussed a million times. EA says it doesn't exist, and you will just be told to get good by a lot of people on here. The majority of us feel your pain.

I know but I’m willing to believe EA that it doesn’t exist if they answer the questions in my original post. Address those things for us and a lot of people will be happy
To people saying it’s strats or something else: please tell me the strats to make opposing team feel tired from the first faceoff.
The sluggishness described in OP (2) to me feels like all my players are extremely tired from the start. It is very noticable. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s related to team overalls, most likely something to do with connection quality. I just upgrades from old PS4 to Pro and for some reason the effects of higher latency seem somehow less...
As for the faceoff (1), it’s ridiculous that the CPU is frozen and changing player is blocked until one team picks up the puck the first time. Why not make those unlock when puck moves slightly off the starting area?
Back from my one month sebatical and I see EA still hasn’t addressed this. No matter I’ve been done with this game for some time and won’t be a returning customer. Diamond Dynasty in the show puts HUT to shame and the game itself is a fantastic replication of the sport it represents unlike the NHL series. For years bad gameplay wasn’t enough to push me away as I was always hopeful each year but EAs treatment of its customers and the treatment of fellow forumers is inexcusable and wrong. So long folks EA has successfully pushed another die hard hockey fan away. Some really good guys around here too. Keep up the fight!
I have been asking these same steps here in forums for a while now. No answers from EA.
Just played eastern conference playoff games in comp. I did not buy any great players only used basic gold players that I allready had. And what happened my players worked just fine, non of those problems. Wohooo EA fixed the game!
Quickly changed my 99 players on ice headed to comp champions qualification round. And there it was again. 99 hall on a breakaway and opponents chara outskated him easily... etc etc etc.
There is no question about if it is strategy or skill based problem. It is NOT! The game is broken and EA wont do anything to fix it.
There is no other hockey game on the market, so why I or you even think that they would.
jake19ny read your post and I'm in your corner....I've been playing HuT since the days of its release and it's gotten considerably worse over the years...I don't want to hear this "get better" as that's not the issue..as I was once a consistent div 1 player for years..I figure I would give it one more chance this year and I quickly gave u on it. Some of you don't u understand it's not a skill or strategy issue....skill nor strategy can fix these problems you can only fix what you can control and most of these problems are NON CONTROLLABLE if you would actually read and understand the issues. The slow skating...players can't pick up the puck or the accuracy of the 100+ poke checks from behind that never ever trip you but you end up with 5+ penalties in a game just because you even attempted is the **** that is EA hockey. I know I'm not alone as just 3 yrs ago forums were packed with threads the market was thriving and you rarely use trouble matching up and now all that is gone...I sometimes play online vs as that's your best chance at a fair game but HUT will forever be in rearview and I know it's i n others as well.
