Is NHL 19 worth $50?

I see a lot of mixed feedback on this forum - mostly negative. Should I keep it since I only paid $50 CAD new or return it because it’s not even worth that? I mostly play drop in’s and club if enough of my friends are on. Appreciate the input. Thanks!

  • If you mostly play drop ins then return it right now. I've literally been waiting to get in a game for an hour and a half now, it's Saturday afternoon and the game just launched yesterday. It 100% will not let me play drop ins. I downloaded this from the PS Store so I can't take it back but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to do it, it's wasted my time so much and not in a fun way where at least I got to play the game
  • The game has a lot of bugs, clock resets after scoring sometimes (no goal) can’t find any drop in games I think the search it broken. Skating felt great in the beta but slowed down at launch. Game stinks.
  • VMX and Woodsy are bang on. Just checked the avg search time for a drop in game, and its at 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon when the game just came out...not good.....
  • Keep in mind, people tend to only voice their opinions when it’s a complaint or a problem. People satisfied with a product rarely create topics or email business to let them know about it.

That being said, there’s some bugs sure. I personally haven’t experienced much. I’ve been dropped from maybe 3 games in 35ish since Tuesday. I have had my audio/visual/controller settings reset 2-3 times. Which is apparently from switching between EASHL and Pro-Am. And yesterday morning 930am EST a buddy and I were having trouble finding full 6v6 drop-ins. Was about 1/5 searches. This might be due to EA tweaking the search parameters a bit, it’s buried in another thread what they did. If you’re interested I can try and dig it up. But I would imagine they will fix it soon.

None of this has been gamebreaking or life or death to me. Personally, I think people like to make mountains out of mole-hills, Head to boards and act like their whole day has been ruined.

I would recommend buying it. If you got the money. I only play EASHL though and I’m personally having an absolute blast.
  • Yes, i couldn't be happier best hockey game ive ever played hands down.

Ty monz. I’m so sick of all the negativity around here. I know some people aren’t happy unless they are complaining about something. I’ve been playing for years and this year ea did some work and made an outstanding game. Yea no game is perfect but this game is close to perfect. A lot of skill to win this year.

If that is the case maybe not but if you're willing to give the rest of the game a try it really is a great product and eventually the issues will be addressed the opening week or two is always the worst. I would say it's worth it. This is the best NHL game in a long time in my opinion and I've been playing this series since NHLPA 93
  • This game has its bugs, every game launches with bugs, but gameplay wise it is the best iteration of NHL on next gen, hands down.

I assume there will be a hot fix for the dropin issue any day.
  • In it's current state? Not at all. (And where is it even $50? Isn't it 60USD / 80 CAD?)

I don't know why the NHL series gets a pass year in and year out. This game is priced the same as Spiderman for christ's sake, and the quality at release is light years behind.

I'm sure the funding/dev team is minimal compared to the bigger franchises like FIFA/Madden, hence the serious drop off in quality/experience. But then the game such should be priced as such also.
  • It's the only hockey game there is. They will fix the issues with the servers and patch the game very soon I'm sure.

I'm not happy with the situation and contemplated trying to get a refund for my $90 but in the end I know it will get sorted by next weekend.
  • You mean NHL 19 The penalty and figure skating version? Save your money and pick it up on sale or a garbage bin somewhere
  • The beta had a ton of potential. It seems to me that EA threw out everything good with the beta and focused on making it worse.

    Game Lags in VS
CPU way too involved in the play
Larger players makes 6 vs 6 a snoozefest. All goals are ugly
Waiting for games is beyond crazy
Poke checking is joke, so many penalties makes for a boring game
3 VS 3 moves so slow, game should be fun but games usually decided on penalty shots.. should scrap and simply have shootout because that's what it is, just much slower

EA sucked all of the fun out the online.......it's gone forever. What was orgasmic 5-8 years ago is simply a borefest. I wish I could get my money back, they sucked me in with the beta.

Hopefully franchise will be fun and justify some of the purchase.

The new skating engine alone makes it worth the purchase ....Online connection is really smooth I’m in California and I can play teams on the East Coast with no lag effecting my skating.
And if you play off-line they have a ton of sliders you can adjust to play the game the way you want to be played .
Some people are having trouble finding drop in games and it’s a issue that they are looking into.
I myself and others are not having any issues.
    I’m loving it so far.

Walmart.ca had it for $50 CAD preorder during E3 (I’ll save even more after I sell my preorder HUT DLC on eBay) 😉. Also got Shadow of the Tomb Raider for $50.

  • I decided to go against the majority and open the game last night. BIG MISTAKE! Online is broken as it stands now. Both Ones games l entered crashed as soon as the game started, and it took me about 30 min to find a 6v6 game which ended up only being 4v3. Offline is great - l was forced to play offline most of the night, but l bought this game to play primarily online so it’s very disappointing.
  • I've been complaining about this game for years. This year, I'm not complaining.

I've had more fun with NHL 19 than any other NHL title that didn't have GM Connected.
  • Yes, buy NHL19 if you like hockey games. NHL19 is easily the best NHL in years.

The game play is really good, I'm really happy with it.

Also, it's worth noting that almost every single person in this topic that are complaining and telling you to not buy the game, have very little posts on here, meaning what they say shouldn't be taken to heart.

Save your $50. It's worth $20 at most in it's current state. I've never known any other game developer to release a game with so many problems and bugs... especially since it's the same circus act every year.

  • No, wait until Black Friday when it severely drops in price.

There are tons of important things still absent from the game.

I don't have time to list them all but here's a few:

    - Still no Addidas jerseys in create-a-team mode.
    - Authentic goal songs removed from the game.
    - They removed the ability to edit players' equipment in season mode.

Absolutely appalling and so, so disappointing.
