Is NHL 19 worth $50?

  • Yes, buy NHL19 if you like hockey games. NHL19 is easily the best NHL in years.

The game play is really good, I'm really happy with it.

Also, it's worth noting that almost every single person in this topic that are complaining and telling you to not buy the game, have very little posts on here, meaning what they say shouldn't be taken to heart.

What? Spending little time on the forum means you can't have an opinion? Lmao.

Anyhow the fact of the matter is OTP is completely broken on PS4. If you compare the price point for a game like NHL which is released year in and year out in a broken state to other games on the same platform there's no way they should be priced the same.

Fact of the matter is most of us continue to buy the game because
    1. It's the only hockey game
    2. The online community completely disappears in the old games once the new one is out.

It's okay to be critical of your favourite game, some of y'all just live in denial.

  • Not worth it at all. The matchmaking system for drop in games in EASHL is completely broken. I tried to get into a game for 3 days and only got into one. That game lasted a couple minutes before connection was lost. Also the gameplay is not that great. Apparently all players use the force like a damn jedi every time they poke check, so any time you hit a leg the player with the puck goes flying and you get a penalty. It's nice that the tried to fix the disgusting poke spam from NHL 18, but the way they tried to solve it is a total joke. I don't think many of the devs play hockey.

Actually no, it means that people just make accounts to come on here and complain. It's no surprise that almost every single person on here saying the game is "trash" or "unplayable" has like 3 posts on the forum.

Umm obviously that means the people have had enough so much so that they decided to come on here to make an account so their concerns can be heard. If it was running smooth, there would be no reason for them to bother doing that. And you only have 78 posts so don't act like you've been a contributing member for years while the rest of us are just trolls

The beta had a ton of potential. It seems to me that EA threw out everything good with the beta and focused on making it worse.

    Game Lags in VS
Poke checking is joke, so many penalties makes for a boring game

VS games use a peer to peer connection. You aren't on EA's servers. Chances are good it's an issue on your end if you lag in every game.

Stop spamming the poke, use good angles and you'll take less penalties. Try using the defensive skill stick. It's more forgiving.

I have to disagree with that. I don't use the poke (click). Are you old enough to remember Nintendo Kung **** Master?

Notice the leg sweep. DSS does the same to a hockey player ;)

That's exactly the point dude - the quality of the game irked people enough to register/login and post about it. You don't have to spend a ton of time on the online forum to be qualified to critique the game, yeesh. Spend your time however you'd like, but don't get agitated when other people come on and share feedback/critique on the game they spend $50+ on, especially since it's probably the same folks who have buying these games year in year out.

The fact that it may seem like more people have come out of the woodworks with complaints with this years game probably means that there is something to complain about.

Have you ever read the "How's my driving" sticker on the back of a semi? How many people do you think call and praise the driver for how great he's doing?

How many people are going to create an account to come on here to praise the game? I think it's pretty obvious your going to see a biased sample on these forums when comparing positive vs negative posts.

So though you do have the ability to come on and "critique" the game, @Tavares2Matthews has a point. There have been people who have been on these forums for years who have seen it all and have interacted with the developers multiple times. Many people jumping on here are saying it's the "worst game ever", without really critiquing anything, just complaining. (Not saying you are, just making a point)

I for one am really enjoying the game. I mainly play VS and the poke check is an issue I've never really had to deal with as I've always played positional hockey. Drop-ins are not an issue because I don't play them. And I have been able to connect to every club game I have attempted so far. There was one game my brother got the "dressing room error", but other than that, gameplay has been great this year.

P.S. - If you're interested in buying the game for EASHL, then I suggest you wait as right now it's not working properly. The Devs are currently working on it and I have faith they will figure it out in due time.

If you play VS or HUT, the game plays pretty well. HUT will sometimes pair you up with someone no where near your level, but again it plays well.

I have no feedback with offline play as I only play online.

Folks let's please dial back the gatekeeping. People are entitled to share their opinions (assuming they're not breaking the rules ) regardless of how long they've been on the forums or how many posts they have.
  • All I play is EASHL and I love the new skating, but haven't purchased the game until the server issues are fixed. If they get fixed in only 3 months, oh well. At least I will get a functional game, and at a discount.

Fix this and get my $91 EA. Or fix it later and get my $30, or maybe even $0 as I will most likely get it used by then.

Here is my 2 cents. I've played every nhl game since the first one in the 90s. I tend to try every mode out of curiosity.

Nhl 19 is not in any way ready for release. Sure the offline modes work but there is nothing all that new about them. Be a pro is a carbon copy of last year. Franchise mode has a couple tweaks but again nothing groundbreaking. Fog of war is a good addition.

CHEL. This is where it comes off the rails. The idea of pond hockey is great but after a while, with no announcers, it just feels empty. And the outfits? Good lord. They're repetitive and boring. Same style for everything just a few color changes. Also, when I am lucky enough to get into an online game how it is that the opposite team has the odd player with the same color Jersey as my team? Happened last night.

CHEL matchmaking - a complete and utter failure. I've been playing since release and I cannot and have not yet had a 6 v 6 game. Not one. Drop ins are the biggest part of my nhl gaming. If it's not fixed soon, I think I'm done with the franchise. Every year it's the same clown show. This year I can't even play my favorite mode. Just go back to the old system. It at least worked!

Overall, although they improved the skating, it just feels clunky. My initial impression was fantastic but that has been on a steep decline. Do they not test their product? And if these things were identified in beta why are we still here?
  • not even half of that 50 bucks
  • I think it depends what gamemode you are playing. Offline, online versus or HUT and I think you are cherry. EASHL/drop-ins are having a lot of issues at the moment. I only play online versus so the game is a blast for me.
