I Don't like the Change to Drop-ins

Prev1345
May I ask why did you guys change the drop in feel?

It was the quickest AnD easiest way for us to get a hockey game in.

This boring outdoor stuff really strips me of the feel of an NHL game.

It has a complete bare bones feel to it.

I just don't understand the change. I truly don't.

I don't like the new drop in system at all. What was a nice convienet way to get my hockey fix with nhl teams and jerseys and stadium, is now literally going to require me to put in Uneccesary effort into finding a club that can work with my schedule and finding dudes who are ok with me being online for about max 2 hours a day. And them. Working with me playing OTHER games I have on my Xbox.

Like really? Sigh.

  • You don't like wearing pajamas when you play? Some people just don't want to be happy I swear... /s

I agree with you, give us our choice of team uniforms again.
  • New drop-in format is garbage. The old arena format with uniforms is much better. It doesn't help that matchmaking is a disaster right now. Oh EA.... SMH
  • Hard to like a change when the biggest difference his "working to not working."

I see a few people use this same language in regards to the new format. "Boring " "Stale" "Will get old."

I honestly want to know how that wasn't a problem before. We are talking about Drop-Ins having the same exact arena, and same exact ice logo for what? 10 years? Doc and Eddie get boring and repetitive after a week of playing any game mode constantly. "Oh thats gotta be a call, there's gotta be a penalty" every time someone gets "REEFED!" and there isn't ever a call. I'm not even trying to say the changes they made will fix that, they wont. You can't really fix stuff like that over the course of a hundred games. Same thing with NHL jerseys. People pick the same 4 over and over, or chose the same jersey just to troll.

If we really want a drop in that feels refreshing we should be pushing for rotating arenas. The old arena, the new one, a small community rink, "The Ring" venue from Ones is actually really nice too. Hell even throw a few actual NHL arena too.

What doesn't get repetitive is the people you're playing with and against and the gameplay. That's the most varied and refreshing thing about drop-ins

I d k, I'm not trying to be argumentative for the sake of it. But you cant deny playing with the same commentary and the same arena in drop in for years wasn't the exact same thing as whats being argued now. The Jerseys sure, to each their own.
  • I was against the changes as well but have accepted them.

The changes to drop-in match making is an attempt at resolving the problems in previous years where you'd sit in a lobby for 2 minutes just to have everyone drop-out at the last second or someone staying in the middle cause they couldn't get the position they wante. It's currently broken but at least they're trying to fix the biggest complaint last year.

I'm not a fan of the clown gear and won't wear it. If anything, I see this as a push to get people to play club. The diversity between club and drop-in, if you're playing on a team, is refreshing and makes playing on a team that much better.

  • I do find it boring and stale as well. I dunno.. just feels so quiet outdoors, even when it looks like there's a huge crowd.

That's exactly what this is. It is a fresh attempt to draw in more casuals, meet others and want to club together. The current presentation leaves a lot to the imagination but I like the concept.

Honestly the first couple of Dropin games I thought it was very stale. I've since started playing with a good bunch of guys and some of the competition has gotten pretty intense to the point where I don't even notice its ODR and no play by play, nor do I care because the gameplay is amazing!

    I completely agree with OP.
  • EA would definitely benefit from having someone with some experience setup their cutscene camera. How the camera showing the cabin in the woods made it to release is beyond me.

I'm sure it's still in there from last year. If you're playing club and unlock the arean with the 4 ice surfaces, you get cutscene camera of a wooden support post and the empty bleechers across the far side of the arena. Presentation is junk. LOL

Want to club together? They don't even allow you to stay together in a lobby after a drop-in game anymore. You need to build up chemistry and feel each other out over a few games before friend requests and club invites are sent out. The drop-in downgrade from last year to this year is crazy.

I dont disagree with this. This setup is much worse than previous iterations. I also dont know how difficult it is to program either so I dont know the restraints keeping them from implementing it.

As for the chemistry argument, I dont agree with that. If I find another player I gel with I send him an invite almost instantly after the game. Shouldn't take more than a couple periods to realise whether you have chemistry or not.

Often times guys aren't even on their mics. So, you don't know what they are like. I get a lot of friend requests and rarely accept them because I don't know these people. I prefer to have more time and the ability to stay together as a group to see how people are. This gives me a more accurate assessment of their play and personality.
  • I dont use a mic unless someone invites me but I'm also a social butterfly and accept any and all invites.

But I agree they need to bring back the stay in lobby feature.
  • The issues with the game being stale, is not the presentation or cosmetics. It's the on ice gameplay. It's better this year, but taking the risk of changing the entire menu presentation while also changing the gameplay didn't pay off. Focus one or the other. I know they have a team, however at this point the game needs a complete focus in one direction before reversing the next year and spam the other aspect. Which gameplay(franchise mode, on ice gameplay included) and presentation being the two sides they need to slam. The presentation guys can work on amimations to help the gameplay dudes.
  • Going forward in reverse.

FYI if you guys tab over to the "End Game" tab or whatever, if you don't touch anything, a timer will run out and you'll end up in the lobby with your team. It's REALLY stupid... But it works.

Nowadays my team just put the controller down and do our bathroom/beerafil breaks and by the time we're back, we're in a lobby together.

Also +1 for this entire lobby system being hot garbage. It's clearly also the main cause of all of our disconnects and insanely long wait times. It's never worked, been broken since the beta. I don't think they'll ever truly fix it. (Hilarious to me, that the only way to get into a drop-in game is to basically have a full team)
  • How are people even playing drop in? Matchmaking simply does not work for me and my friend. We can only play Arcade Threes or whatever. For some reason matchmaking works for that but not EASHL Drop In.

  • I have played a total of 26 drop in games so far including early release. Haven’t played a single 3v3 game (which is normally what I play) because I can’t find any. Last year, at this point, I probably had 50-75 games already in.

The new matchmaking is flat out garbage and needs to be fixed before I stick to offline permanently

@LuGer33x I can never get into a game doing a solo search but I've never failed to find a game searching as a group ... and every group search has wielded full 6v6 lobbies.

Edit: not exactly true. One time buddy invited me and the search times out so we back out. I invited him and then it worked.

After failing to find games the first couple days I've now played 3+ full 6v6 games the last 4 nights.
  • Really ruined a great game
