I hate these goals...

https://youtu.be/pXzqTgqlcyU

I apologize for my poor editing skills. I'm not very good at doing it on the PS4...

Many people are complaining the game is rigged and the game sides in favor of the player with less skill. In this case, I was that player as I was outplayed by my opponent. I just played a great game in which we were tied at 3 going into OT. Unfortunately, this is the goal I lost the game on.

Instead of people coming on here to complain about "ice tilt" or "DDA", we should be talking about goals that occur similar to the one in this video. These types of goals have been happening for years and need to be fixed.

Though I am out of position on this play, I was still able to drive the player outside to a low percentage area. His only option was to either dance around and wait for help, or throw the puck on net as he did. The thing that really bothers me here is I completely lose control of my defender and he goes into automation. I am fine taking losses, trust me I have many, but to lose a game on a play you have no control over is very frustrating.

That all being said, I don't change my stance on how I feel about the game. I think it plays great and I have tons of fun. I just hope plays like this can be fixed in future iterations. They happen way too much especially in front of the net. I have way too many own goals due to backchecking and hitting that imaginary bubble near the goalie.

  • Welcome to current gen NHL.
  • I have long since complained about the fact that shots like those even a rec league goalie can hold onto.

I am actually ok with the goalie animation, I am just more concerned about these "automated" plays in which we lose control of our players. It seems to happen more on puck pick ups still. I notice it it happens when I win a clean faceoff to the point sometimes as well. For a split second, you think your controller is broken because your player becomes unresponsive. If EA manages to fix this, I would be one happy camper.
  • There are a lot of animations where you're powerless. Faceoffs, trying to stop at the blue line when there's an incoming puck, players picking up the puck. In your case, pucks around the net with the goalie are a disaster waiting to happen. Looks like you just stopped and your player kicks it in. I've had the same thing happen, but with sticks. The puck is incoming. Goalie bobbles it. All he has to do is quickly cover. I'm skating towards the goalie and just want to get out of his way, but the puck suddenly magnetizes to my stick with no inputs from me, clips through the goalie, and goes into the net.

Thanks for posting. It’s always good to see the context. In the last gen games, defensive players could just drag the puck through their own net. We have tried to fix these cases more appropriately by allowing the goalies to cover pucks even when possessed by their own teammates when they feel threatened.

With the concerns about puck pickups, we added more skate pickup coverage and it can lead to situations like this unfortunately as we no longer try to contextually decide if a player should pickup the puck or not as players asked us to just solve pickups whenever possible.

We need more contextually aware pickups near the net and also to have goalies feel just as threatened by their own players near the net possibly tracking them in paddle down type positioning to rule out unfortunate cases like this.

Anyways just a few things we have discussed to help in these cases that we would like to get to for sure. I will use this video as another example of why it’s needed. Thanks.

Thanks for checking it out. I see this happens a lot more with the AI back checking and skating straight into the goalie, but that had been around for years. Fortunately, this is the first time I have lost a game due to this.

I think this is why we are seeing those "Game doesn't reward you" threads. Many players are getting 30-5 in shots and double TOI, yet lose the game because of goals like this. So I completely understand the frustration.

If these goals were to occur once every 10 games that's one thing, but they are way too consistent. I see this happen to me or my opponent every other game. Sometimes multiple times in a single game. I'll continue to post videos when they come up, but hopefully this could be fixed in the near future.

Again, thank you for all that you do in the community!
