Dedicated Servers - So Far So Good - Review from the UK

I've played 4 HUT Champs qualification games today on the dedicated servers, and I've got to say the performance was excellent. I live in the UK - I don't know where the nearest server is; I've heard Ireland and Germany - but the ping times were below 10ms and even though there was the occasional spike in lag time this had no noticeable effect in game.

I run a pretty fast home network and the Xbox is connected by WiFi due to a wall between the router and Xbox - this may be addressed in future by routing a hole through the wall so wired connection is possible, but based on today's performance it may not be needed.

I know this may not be everyone's experience, depending on their home web access and their location to the server but I figured this would be good place to start letting people know how this is working.

  • How did you find out your Server that you are connected to? Your Ping is below 10ms. To which servername / IP-Adress did you ping?
  • You don't know which server you are connected to, just can ping it from within the pause menu.
  • Update - just played my first Division game on the servers and while the speed was mostly fine on two occasions the play speeded up like it was on fast forward. checking back there had been some spikes in lag which may mean that the server was behind, and when it noticed this pushed you back to real time by the fast forward - missed out on a shooting opportunity but so far still better than lag and lost frames, won my first Division 3 game 2-0.
  • My experience was really good also based on three games (Finland, 30ms ping). Also connection felt better than under 20ms ping games on p2p in the past.

That's good - some others from Finland and Sweden suggested that even at that 30ms ping the game felt very sluggish - hopefully you're experience is more of the norm for Europe.
  • The connection to servers is pretty good now, but the game feels to fast now in online games.
  • Very good connection and Game Experience from Germany. Constantly Pingtime of 14ms

Thinking it's something else than ping. I have now 30ms both HUT and EASHL. Eashl connection varies alot, from smooth to sluggish between games. Let's see how HUT goes when i get more games under My belt.
  • Same here. In NRW we have 14 ms and stable.
  • Well I may have spoken too soon - last night I played 4 games and 2 felt like my guys were skating in mud, and the other two like there were in a zero gravity, inertia free room they slid about so fast and so easily.
  • Game feels like eashl, very delayed and sluggish feeling. Will probably quit hut if this stays like this.

Finally I was able to play two games and I have to say I felt bad for my opponents.

IDK if those were the best HUT games ever in connection wise but at least very close. No sign of Fatman lag nor input delay!

But it was quite obvious that my opponents didn't have that good connection. Especially in my 2nd game my AI's were like bunch of steroid monsters, they were everywhere and always going for loose puck etc. My inputs had zero delay, it was just amazing. That is VERY rare for me. Final score was 9-0 but the way my opponent TRIED to play clearly indicated that he wasn't that bad, the game was just too much ”tilted“ for me. Because of the connection to be clarified. ;)

Ping was ~30ms in both games, exactly same as I have in EASHL (if there's nothing wrong). 2nd game was somehow better than 1st what comes to "responsiveness” of my input, it was just like playing offline. Edit: forgot to say I'm from Finland.

It really seems that players that had problems with P2P are having a good time with DS's and vice versa?

But let's see if that is permanent or temporary. Fact is though, that EA is almost forced to set up more servers, otherwise they will have huge problems ahead...
