@WainGretSki shoulda seen it yesterday every second game was like that the whole night bud! Went on for about 2hrs then cleared up a bit once the population slimmed out round 1130 CST. In prime time it’s laggy as heck!
Yea I played a few dropins last night and it was less than stellar on the server side. Was still playable, but my god do you have to change your play style to compensate. I play much less aggressive when servers make me feel sluggish.
Noticing the same issue here in Ontario, Canada. Network Performance used to post 11ms-13ms consistently. While these numbers might have been off, the game felt really smooth. I stopped playing for a few weeks, and upon logging on a few days ago, I patched the game, and instantly noticed some sort of unusual delay while playing. The Network Performance now shows 25-30ms, which in theory should still be super smooth, but the game definitely feel sluggish. It's not unplayable, but something is definitely different.
Exact same experience for me so far. Ping numbers now reflect more or less what they should, yet I am feeling a bit sluggish in games.
same here but it is hit or miss. it's definitely not every game.
for the games that I see the fat man lag / delay, I will see the same avg ping as the good games, but will see the occasional spike.
I have noticed something of late: smooth game until a small spike then (to me) it appears I get out of sync.... meaning - for that moment where the spike happened from there on I have the fat man lag (.25 second or so) input delay. that spike appears to delay me (client side) from the server side that is still running in sync with other players.
then, at the end of the period / start of the next one.... it's responsive until the next spike.
anyways, this all makes sense to me... the server / game data is not going to re-sync on the fly if a client gets out of sync. may re-sync during cut scenes, end of period, etc.
Regardless of all of your fancy networking thoughts! The game is not the same as it was all year! There is a problem! It was smooth all year now it’s spiking almost every game for almost everyone I play with! There has been a change!
Thats my last game yesterday... it’s every game and at some point in the game there will be spikes like this and worse! All my friends are having this same issue on PS4! I had never seen or felt anything like this all year! It started coincidentally right after the release of apex legends and the so called central server they added for us! The number in the ping box means nothing to me. The feel of the game has changed and the connection is horrible now! Can we get some answers yet? @EA
yeah I haven't seen anything resembling that, but I majority of the time play club.
is that HUT, VS or what?
also keep in mind that not everyone is reporting the same things, some people have had issues for years here screaming about various forms of lag, latency, delay and jitter.
and yes I understand that changes have occurred and now the game feels different. kinda what I was saying above...

no worries I only ask as that's what I play and I have been seeing spikes (I mean like from 30 ms to 60 ms for literally 1 second) then I see the fat man lag after it gets out of sync.
I haven't seen what you posted in the screenshot. where are you located?

Located in Winnipeg central Canada. Used to see 20-25ms now I’m 40-50ms which is exactally what I should be seeing considering the fix to the chart. My club buds are spread out across the country but most live in eastern Canada/USA.

man.... you are in a tough location.
you on Shaw?
Yes and have absolutely no other issues on any other games I play or any other internet services I use! I have done many things with the techs there aswell to try to resolve this latest issue for me. They are well aware of the many problems facing NHL customers and have received tonnes of calls and complaints regarding this game. So I know I’m not the only one having difficulties.
At least they were willing to troubleshoot with me and help me understand this is solely on EA sports and not a personal networkworking issue. Having a long gaming history with the internet over many titles both PC and console, I have never had such consistent poor connections to a game. Like I said this only started a week after the central server was added, right around the time of the faceoff patch. It was consistently smooth and playable all year before this!

Suggest you run a trace from a PC to 18.188.107.36 and see if the path is similar.
don't post the 1st couple IP addresses
also, who typically is the "room leader" and where are they located (just curious)?
lastly, I understand where everyone is coming from when they are stating that "issues started after server add / patch / etc."... I am just trying to get some info into these forums and net out who is seeing what on what game mode from where.
Noticing the same issue here in Ontario, Canada. Network Performance used to post 11ms-13ms consistently. While these numbers might have been off, the game felt really smooth. same here but it is hit or miss. it's definitely not every game.
for the games that I see the fat man lag / delay, I will see the same avg ping as the good games, but will see the occasional spike.

Eashl ... my bad
no worries I only ask as that's what I play and I have been seeing spikes (I mean like from 30 ms to 60 ms for literally 1 second) then I see the fat man lag after it gets out of sync.
From Winterpeg (as my Alberta pal calls it) to the "central server" IP that Hot Rivit posted, I am seeing traffic from there going across a Chicago Equinix peering point (which is the proper / closest one to the U.S.):

Suggest you run a trace from a PC to 18.188.107.36 and see if the path is similar.
don't post the 1st couple IP addresses
also, who typically is the "room leader" and where are they located (just curious)?
lastly, I understand where everyone is coming from when they are stating that "issues started after server add / patch / etc."... I am just trying to get some info into these forums and net out who is seeing what on what game mode from where.
For sure thanks for this.. funny it shows a lower ping then I’m actually getting hahaha!
I have tried me as the room leader but most of the time we run one of the east guys as room leader. The results are roughly the same. Happens to us regardless.
I usually take room leader when we have someone further west of me in the party. Most of the time it helps Improve the west players ping and search times! That’s the only difference we have noticed when selecting room leader. As for me vs the east room leader I notice no difference in pings or search times. The club selection is North America East.
Is the disk or content stored on internal or external storage
Is your console set to instant on, power saver, etc.
These two points caught my eye - can you elaborate further?
i've had intermittent NAT issues with my console (xbox one, mind you) set to "instant on". I will sometimes play games thru my Surface Pro so I needed to have it set to instant on. but I noticed that my NAT would change intermittently, even with ports open. I would have to periodically go into the setting, change it back, do a hard restart (or hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds) to clear the issue.
as for the internal vs. external... any game I play online I move or put it on my internal drive. with an external drive you can run into freezing/stuttering/etc. I have noticed.
for your case.... if your NAT is fully open I would honestly just call Verizon and tell them what I said earlier:
tell them you "work from home", use "Citrix and VoIP" and are noticing latency and lag. if you want to mention that you see it via gaming, go ahead, but I can tell you most ISP's respond and look a tad deeper if you tell them it's impacting your work or business.
point is, you are seeing major buffering. the packet loss looked minimal per your charts you provided, but the latency and jitter looks horrid.
now, that very well could be due to a physical layer issue. that's why I suggest you demand they check the LIGHT LEVELS and provide you the actual levels and where they checked them. they need to check EVERY NODE along the path for physical errors and signs of congestion.
if you tell them you see latency / buffering (i.e. "words are missing / speeding up slowing down over my VoIP application / Skype") then that SHOULD be a clue for them to not only look at the physical circuit's path for LAYER 1 ERRORS, but ALSO look for tail drops, buffering notifications and queuing issues at their local switch and points of aggregation. some ISP's are NOTORIOUS for over subscribing consumer grade lines.
so, if you haven't yet - I would get into a drop in game in EASHL and report back what kind of latency you see so we can compare peer to peer to server client based connections you have. if they are the same story / scenario then I would absolutely hound your ISP using key words / phrases I have put forth in this thread. also let us know if this is EVERY game or happens during certain time periods.
Thing is, I no longer have the game as it was refunded. But the one thing I left out (and never even thought of mentioning, to be honest) is all of my games are digital and stored on an 8TB external WD Drive (USB 3).
Can that possibly explain the Fat Man Lag, inconsistent online experience, etc...?
I have noticed something of late: smooth game until a small spike then (to me) it appears I get out of sync.... meaning - for that moment where the spike happened from there on I have the fat man lag (.25 second or so) input delay. that spike appears to delay me (client side) from the server side that is still running in sync with other players.
then, at the end of the period / start of the next one.... it's responsive until the next spike.
anyways, this all makes sense to me... the server / game data is not going to re-sync on the fly if a client gets out of sync. may re-sync during cut scenes, end of period, etc.

right, exactly. and we don't know what server you are on with the screenshot provided.
to an east coast AWS IP address (54.80.0.2 - FYI likely not an EA IP but it is an AWS IP in the Herndon / Ashburn area from what I can tell) from Winnipeg I am seeing:

from where you are and with the locale of your teammates, i would have to assume that the "central" server is your best option. now, maybe there IS an issue with or near that server or along the way from Winnipeg to the AWS network... dunno.
so.. baseline from Winnipeg to Central, I would expect to see 36 - 38 ms and from Winnipeg to east I would expect to see ~ 42 -44 ms.
would be nice to see traces to the game server while the game is responding in the manner reflected in your screen shot. but.... we really don't know the game server or front end IPs (unless Hot Rivit posted the legit IP for the AWS "central" one).

Like I said numbers are numbers! They are not reflecting the feel of the game. 40ms is a great ping still and very playable on any game I’ve played. I don’t believe the numbers presented to me on that screen, I just can’t! In no way is it reflecting the feel of the game. Or how it felt pre patch!
@BoboFloggins I would also like to add I notice in the weekday mornings and daytime it’s very smooth, I’m thinking solely due to low server populations. I do not experience these lag/spike issues during lower population hrs including late night (roughly after 11cst) ... just another critical observation and detail. This is all PS4 just to be clear on that too.
Would you be able to elaborate on this statement for us please? A few details might help us understand how “it’s fixed” and what differences are noticeable.
Not sure what changed but I played 6s tonight and there was less delay. Felt like how it was prior to the latest patch.
Poke check and stick lift was perfect.... Skating great... puck pick-ups working perfectly... my player was intercepting and blocking shots as expected...

Basically it was like playing offline.
The difference is like night and day.
Its obviously something that happens out of your system and it's pretty annoying there's literally nothing you can do to fix it.
Those who don't suffer or have never suffered from it are the blessed ones...

I mean, I can actually see it. As in, there is a frame stutter which may or may not be associated with a latency spike then the client (console side) is juuuuuuust slightly out of sync until an opportunity for a resync (i.e. cut scene or intermission or timeout) but then I'll see it happen again.
Some games are perfect.
Some games have what I described above (meaning it is "introduced" mid-game).
And rarely I see a game where it is just fat man lag from start to finish, with ping times solid all the way thru.
I believe the last two there are different scenarios altogether.
I've said for years now that I believe who you are playing with and against impact game speed and input response. But the mid-game scenario I see is the one I am most curious about. Wondering if anyone else sees this or if my console could be introducing this condition. Although I must point out that it's not every game so there is some scenario triggering it, multiple factors I have to assume.

Were you playing prime time? I personally think it’s all the time of day! During prime lets call it 5pm est - 12am est the game is chunky spikey and deylayed! Before and after these times it feels great! For me I seem to be having all the trouble during peek server load times!

Yea I played a few dropins last night and it was less than stellar on the server side. Was still playable, but my god do you have to change your play style to compensate. I play much less aggressive when servers make me feel sluggish.
Eashl ... my bad
no worries I only ask as that's what I play and I have been seeing spikes (I mean like from 30 ms to 60 ms for literally 1 second) then I see the fat man lag after it gets out of sync.
From Winterpeg (as my Alberta pal calls it) to the "central server" IP that Hot Rivit posted, I am seeing traffic from there going across a Chicago Equinix peering point (which is the proper / closest one to the U.S.):
Tracing the route to IP node (18.188.107.36) from 1 to 30 hops

I ran it a few times and got the same ballpark result of 36-37 ms.
Equinix appears to peer directly to AWS's CDN.
Thing is, I no longer have the game as it was refunded. But the one thing I left out (and never even thought of mentioning, to be honest) is all of my games are digital and stored on an 8TB external WD Drive (USB 3).
Can that possibly explain the Fat Man Lag, inconsistent online experience, etc...?
right, exactly. and we don't know what server you are on with the screenshot provided.
to an east coast AWS IP address (54.80.0.2 - FYI likely not an EA IP but it is an AWS IP in the Herndon / Ashburn area from what I can tell) from Winnipeg I am seeing:
42 ms 43 ms 42 ms
from where you are and with the locale of your teammates, i would have to assume that the "central" server is your best option. now, maybe there IS an issue with or near that server or along the way from Winnipeg to the AWS network... dunno.
so.. baseline from Winnipeg to Central, I would expect to see 36 - 38 ms and from Winnipeg to east I would expect to see ~ 42 -44 ms.
would be nice to see traces to the game server while the game is responding in the manner reflected in your screen shot. but.... we really don't know the game server or front end IPs (unless Hot Rivit posted the legit IP for the AWS "central" one).
Would you be able to elaborate on this statement for us please? A few details might help us understand how “it’s fixed” and what differences are noticeable.
Smooth as glass.
Poke check and stick lift was perfect.... Skating great... puck pick-ups working perfectly... my player was intercepting and blocking shots as expected...
