    Best quote ever!

    Yes it is
  • It will be a Black Friday purchase for me. I finally got into a game last night after burning half an hour in matchmaking. The game played good, had good moments, just cant justify a full price purchase.

I was honestly very disappointed when I saw the amount of playable characters in offline Ones.
  • Would have loved to use quebec in franschise without them having to be called alumni...
  • i got about an hour in and 3 or 4 challenges played on HUT and thought it looked good.

I'm not crazy about the highlight package at the end of periods and bummed i couldn't find out how skip it. I also preferred NHL19's card display after a goal.

the score bug at the bottom will take some time to get use to but i liked it there more than i though i would.

1 period with the play by play crew and i had to mute them. I usually do but would normally let Doc go for a few games before i did.

Pack opening FXs are pretty good.

since we only get the 10 hours i didn't poke around too much and jumped right in to the challenges. i'm only rockin' the starter pack and the EA Access pack and won't get to bent out of shape about my 3rd & 4th line not being able to hit, pass or get a shot off. there was a lot of talk about the new passing and shooting mechanics but i'm not seeing or feeling it yet. the goalie action does looks good and really stood out to me.

today (if i closed to game out correctly and didn't lose the rest of my 10 hours) i'll look at setting line ups and strategies and what these new Synergies are all about. they appear to be the same as the past but with new names and abbreviations.

all in all it's a good purchase and giving another thumbs up. EA Access however is another thread.....
  • Good game
  • Anyone notice if that long list of "fixes" that were not in the beta are now actually in the release? I would assume that the day 1 patch was not released for the Access, so I am guessing the fixes are not in yet. Maybe that's why the LTing is still king.

Can't wait to read any feedback about these "fixes" we didn't get a chance to test during the beta.

    1.) Hitting is weak
2.) Big builds still reign supreme too much
3.) LTing doesn't even feel like it got nerfed worth a damn
4.) Small scoreboard needs to be shrunk to half that size to be viable.
5.) Puck control is a little bit too high

feel free to add your thoughts and I'm sure I will add more as I goof around more. I really hope there is a Day 1 patch to fix some of this stuff because I won't lie....defense doesn't look like they gonna have fun.

I feel we are pretty much on the same page as to where we want to see the game direction go. I am definitely bummed to read your feedback, and yet, not entirely surprised either. Actually, hardly surprised might be more accurate.

    :(
  • Do we know if Season mode allows us to edit players this year? No idea why that wasn't included last year..

(This is only for EASHL 6s)

    - Scoreboard is still awful, give us back the small scoreboard in the top corner.
    - Passing is still too slow, pass accuracy seems off, and passing lanes are too narrow.
    - Pass interceptions when the guy is facing away can be toned down some more.
    - Stick handling with the puck could be faster, it's a puck not a 30lb weight.
    - For the love of god bump up the skating attributes on all builds in world of chel (+3 on everything?). The only way to have decent skating is to use a tiny build which is ridiculous.
    - Deflections could be toned down slightly.
    - LTs could be nerfed some more.

  • It's a pretty bad game. The current ea nhl team has no idea on how to improve the product.

They have no concept on how the game should feel rewarding for a player without the puck. So far, playing online, the best defense isn't to try to play d, it's just to do nothing. Fall back, and let the CPU player take the puck.

The game isn't fun. Another iteration that fails to bring out the fun things about the game of hockey to the forefront.

I really think the current group managing this product have taken the game as far as they can. It's not really different or any better since that 1st game on the on nextgen disaster. Strongly believe that they need a brand new creative direction and management of the game.

For folks perusing the forums to determine whether to purchase or not, I would suggest waiting till it is dirt cheap.

    Not a good sports game.

But seriously, I will hold off purcahse until I hear whether day one patch does anything. If not, skip this game until it's on discount, maybe black friday or something?

If the game isn't a must have then Black Friday for like 20-30 is ideal. It's obvious that beta tests are nothing more than them throwing people a bone to get them talking. You don't see @NHLDev talking it up with us about the game.

Communication leading up to launch this year is by far the worst we've seen. Dead silence and we're a week away from launch. Their strategy of "drip feeding" content and not interacting with the community is terrible. At the bare minimum, the new community manager should be showing their face.

    Can't say i disagree a whole lot.

This is my opinion. And no, it isn't jumping on the hate train or trying to stir up fights or whatever. It is genuinely and absolutely nothing more than the way I feel:

This game tries to make you feel important when you have the puck. It tries to make you feel like a superstar. Makes you score and dangle if you are willing to put a bit of effort into learning how. But hockey is sooo much more than being important and feeling like a superstar when you are in possession of a puck. Yes I know it's a video game. Yes I know people want to score. Strangely, not every single person wants to score every goal. We all play for varying reasons. Personally my fun is shutting people down and making them pay the price for choosing to rush down on my side of the ice. I like to move the puck around and quickly. I do my best to help my teammates score, even if that means I don't get a point because I am the "third" assist in the goal.

It feels like if you take away the dangle sniping, this game has no legs to stand on, and that, to me, is a major problem. Like, why do HUT, VS, and EASHL all have to feel so similar??? Why is EA so adamant to making everything feel the same??? Why give players the opportunity to be successful and selfish in a 6vs6 mode????? EASHL should be putting much much more emphasis on team play. It should make you pay the price for not wanting to play as a team. Not your fun? Then by all means, go play Ones, HUT, VS or the incredibly bland Career mode.

This game is getting harder and harder to purchase every single year. I get it, I am not the target audience by any stretch or means. Shame really because I have a passion for the sport of hockey, and this is a hockey game.....Yet, I feel like I am not the target consumer that EA wants to sell their product to. Wouldn't that be like Guitar Hero not targeting rock music fans, or even musicians that like to play video games?

    Maybe it's just me...

Interviewer: What gives you trust in Ron Hainsey at this point in his career?

Babcock: He knows where to stand.

I think you probably are not the target market for the game. The target audience is the simulation audience.

Not sure what you are attempting to do on defense? Run arcade like centre ice checks all game?

Um, what makes you say the target audience is the simulation audience? Which by the way, I completely disagree with.
  • "I get it, I am not the target audience by any stretch or means"

NHL has always been a low sales, small niche game market for EA because the fan base was older. EA has made a decision to try to bring younger consumers into the NHL game franchise by making it more animated/cartoonish at times, goofy celebrations, dances, easy dekes, etc. Young kids like the "me me me, I am a top skater superstar" so EA is trying to increase sales outside of the old loyal base by getting the younger generation hooked on being an all star on the virtual ice.

The game has always had exploits and glitch goals, however the one man show exploits and glitches are still in the game and made easier to pull off, while the teamwork glitches/exploits like passes getting thru for backside one timers, etc. have been harshly nerfed, which deters trying that pass across, so there is less teamwork, passing, set up plays, and back door one timers. Instead the majority of gameplay is now dangle, figure skate, turn back to defender, loop d loop around, spin in corners, in order to get free for a wrister from the slot or just throw pucks on net from everywhere hoping to get deflections and rebounds. Which are chaotic, random, sloppy.

NHL 09 thru NHL 12 were the most fun by far years of this game.

So, no. I actually don't enjoy arcade like games either. I like to be rewarded by positional play, and when in the right position separating puck from player thru contact, not necessarily a monster check each time. I also think having a good stick defensively is a huge part of hockey, yet ea has no clue on how to introduce defensive stick play into the game.

The games i win online, i literally just clog up the middle of the slot with my controlled player. I don't even try to hit or use my stick. Regardless of my positioning, the risk/benefit to try to actually do something defensively isn't worth it.

Like i said, it's a pretty boring game.

Hey man. I just feel differently. I feel this is a very good representation of hockey.

I feel that, as of right now anyway, most people are having a hard time getting by me on defense. I play a little different than most though. Dump and chase and hard forecheck. Grinder style ;)

Keep in mind the other thread I posted up and keep it on the low. We might be playing two different games...
