Not everyone who played in the NHL has joined the Alumni association. Does no one realize this?

I understand full well. That’s why I was wondering if the list of players in the NHLAA was public knowledge.

I’d like to see for myself if there’s any guys who EA left off.

Case in point, Bobby Hull was on one of the Alumni All-Star teams last year. This year, he’s not in the game. Why? Did he not pay his dues? Did EA just forget? Which is it?

Also, I don’t play HUT, but I clearly remember seeing an Eric Lindros card last year. If they can have him in HUT, then why isn’t he on an Alumni Team? Is it fir the same reasons I stated above regarding Bobby Hull?

There’s lots of questions regarding these teams and the players on them. Unfortunately, with the usual lack of communication from EA, I’m sure we will never get a straight answer.

  • Not everyone who played in the NHL has joined the Alumni association. Does no one realize this?

The 2018 Senators Alumni game had these players join their Alumni Roster officially:

    Team Alfredsson

Curtis Leschyshyn, Rob Zamuner, Brendan Bell, Shean Donovan, Daniel Alfredsson, Mike Fisher, Radek Bonk, Laurie Boschman, Denis Hamel, Filip Kuba, Alexei Yashin, Magnus Arvedson, Norm Maciver, Randy Robitaille, Alexandre Daigle, Damien Rhodes, Patrick Lalime

    Team Phillips

Jim Kyte, Lance Pitlick, Chris Phillips, Wade Redden, Randy Cunneyworth, Martin Havlat, Rob Murphy, Bryan Smolinski, Dennis Vial, Shaun Van Allen, Chris Neil, Janne Laukkanen, Denny Lambert, Todd White, Jason York, Brad Smyth, Ron Tugnutt, Pascal Leclaire

So it's not that some players aren't in the official Alumni rosters, it's that EA probably didn't want to (or couldn't) spend any money on getting the licenses for them.

I agree and how do you have a Penguins Alumni team with no Recchi, Coffey, Francis, Stevens, Kovalev, Tocchet, U.Samuelsson, Barrasso, etc. but for some reason Wayne Primeau, George Laraque and a host of one season 4th line plugs are on the team.

Penguins Alumni Team should have looked like this...

    Stevens Lemieux Jagr
    Robitaille Francis Recchi
    Tocchet Pronovost Kovalev
    Mullen Trottier Kehoe

    Murphy Coffey
    Gonchar U.Samuelsson
    Stackhouse D.Burrows

    Barrasso
    Wregget

I mean, Paul Coffey is (and always will be) an Oilers Alumni. But players like Tocchet, Kovalev, Barrasso should definitely have been on their team.

Also, I'm not sure but I believe they don't need to deal with each individual player to include them in the roster. That's like if EA had to have a license deal with every 700+ player in the NHLPA to include them in the game. I believe they only require a licensing deal where any player likeness would have been concerned. So just having the NHL Alumni license should have been enough to at least include the player's names.

    Not sure how that works...

Meh, who knows? Maybe this is their way of allowing room to expand the player list in future iterations.

Nothing but a guess at this point until EA releases info, if they do.
  • As a Rangers fan, I take exception at Kovalev being on a Penguins alumni team.

    We had him first! 😄

You can have Petr Nedved back!
  • They definitely need to allow us to edit their birth year or like someone else said have them be 18 if you add them to a Franchise instead of 27. That is pretty lame really.

Stuff like this really makes me wish this game was back on PC. I mean the stuff we can do with Madden PC versions and 3rd party editors guys made are light years ahead of what is built into these games. Would love to have the same things for NHL series.
  • I heard goalies on legends team, their mask doesn’t match their team colors is this true?
  • Just found out this beauty.

Basically, Gretzky isn’t allowed to use his own number.

It doesn’t matter if you use the Alumni teams he’s on or even use a created team that has Gretzky. Once you start the season, #99 is locked and he gets assigned #97. All other teams retired numbers unlock if you use Alumni teams, except good ol’ #99.

The only way to get Gretzky to wear #99 is to substitute the Alumni teams with the AHL teams and play an AHL season.

    So the options are:

    1. Play an NHL season and just assign him #98.

    Or

    2. Play an AHL season using Alumni teams and keep the #99, but play for a Calder Cup instead of the Stanley Cup.

    Tough choice.

I came here to just mention this. Let the goalie use the teams default masks. Why would I want Belfour wearing a Dallas mask??????

Also, it would be nice if there was a default alumni season to pick from so you don't have to sub every team with an alumni team.

  • They should have all the alumni on a free agent list also so you can out them on more than one team, or if you create a player you should be able to assign him to more than one team. Just think how much fun if Jagr was on all the teams he played on

I take back the "Well done, EA" if all of the Alumni retire after one year of Franchise mode. Is that what happens?
No. They are 27 years old.

Give us the option to change the year of birth. It would be more excitingly if we can implement them in later drafts. Maybe you can add an automatic Generator button ? Turn on or off at the beginning of a Dynasty to see them later in a draft with other values and skills. That would be a great thing.

Does this happen even when you turn retired numbers to "OFF"?? Do you know if this happens in Franchise mode as well as season mode?

I don’t think there’s an “on/off” option, but it might not matter anymore. I think they fixed the issue in the patch.

Ok. Thanks for the response. I was planning on doing an all alumni season mode to tide me over until the next roster/patch update so I can start my Franchise mode then. It would suck to see Gretzky in anything other than 99!

Doing an All Alumni season is a good idea, but there is a flaw in that as well.

It’s the fact that there are multiple players that have duplicate and triplicate versions of themselves on multiple teams. Heck, Mike Sillinger alone is on 10 of these teams.

So, yeah, it’ll be great to have Gretz in his #99, but by seasons end, the top 10 scorers will be...

    1. Gretzky
    2. Gretzky
    3. Lemieux
    4. Gretzky
    5. Modano
    6. Messier
    7. Messier
    8. Modano
    9. Hull
    10. Hull

    No good.

Oh I know, that's why I'm editing the teams myself. Removing all the duplicates and going for a "classic teams" concept. For example making the 1987 Oilers, 1989 Flames, 1983 Islanders, etc. I know it wont be perfect and I'm not restricting myself to those rules (I don't mind having legends from different eras on certain teams) but I'll do my best not to have duplicate players, especially star players, I'll have them on specific teams. I'm going to create star players that were left off like Pavel Bure, Paul Kariya, Mike Bossy, Hakan Loob, Scott Stevens, Eric Lindros, etc.
