Online AI question for the Devs

Can a Dev please explain how the AI works in online HUT games? I’m talking specifically about how random it appears to be regardless of team make up or strategies. One game my AI will press my opponent, cover the open men, and get in good scoring positions in the offensive end. Other games my AI wanders aimlessly, leaving the slot and points open, bunch up on one side of the ice, and basically become useless. I’m tired of losing games because my AI skates away from the open man leaving him alone to one time the easy goal. I’m sure this equally frustrating for my opponents as well.
Can you confirm if it’s just random luck of the draw how your AI plays in a particular game?
If you believe it’s connection related like some say can you better explain how connection relates to how intelligent or inept your AI becomes?
Thanks in advance as I think this will help people prepare for online games better, understand a little more how things work, and end a lot of pointless discussion.

Today I used my timeout in a 0-0 game with 7 minutes left in the first because they were driving me nuts. Everything was fairly smooth afterwards. It sucked using it so early in the game but was definitely worth it.
This is just one of the MANY things that I think is fine to have in offline modes but should never appear in online modes.
Wonder if my questions will ever be answered.
This deservers it's own topic. Agree to 100%.
Well, EA makes money as long as you are a bit disconent with your team. If the vast majority is satisfied with their team no one will buy packs. Packs that generate gross profit for EA.
I think people would spend more if:
- AI was even
- Power Play actually mattered
- Skill and rating mattered
Game 1: I was blessed with the super smart AI and my opponents AI wandered aimlessly and covered nobody. I went up 4-0 first period and drew a rage quit with 7 minutes remaining in the period.
Game 2: My opponent was blessed with the smart AI and mine did nothing. Lost the game 6-1
Game 3: Both our AI”s played smart and it took OT for me to squeak out the 1-0 win. Game could have gone either way.
The random AI play 100% dictates the direction and more often than not the outcome of games. So many in the community see this and would like an answer on it.
THIS 100%
This is absolutely the worst part of playing this game online. "EA Advantage" is what I call it.
I just don’t think it’s intentional I think it’s something they need to look at. In MLB the Show this year they had an issue where one of the modes the AI didn’t play at the advertised level. They had to patch it. I’m wondering if that’s happening here. Instead of it being Default All-Star I wonder if it is randomly changing game to game. I swear my AI plays like superstars one game then on rookie level the next.
The AI stupidity's rating should be added as a start on the cards IMO.
But seriously, this is not only online. The superstar AI can have low 80 cards and outplay my 85 OVR team like if I had bronze cards. Then I will beat the 89 AI on superstar 10-1.
In squad battles, the lower the team ovr, the greater the chance its the hardest game of the 4 lol. If I could get all 85 to 88 ovr teams, it would be perfect.
Try lowering your team ovr to the same or lower as the team you're playing. You'll probably find it's a much more fair game overall.
I am almost thinking of creating 3 line ups, an 80 ovr, 85 ovr, and a best team possible. Basically swap teams to keep the overalls similar depending on the team I'm gonna play.
