EASHL: What's your build and boosts?

Trying to get a handle on how to compete with the cheesers in this game.

I primarily play forward and have gone from dangler to sniper to twf to playmaker and am curious on what everyone personally plays with.

What attribute boosts have you found to be helpful and what ones have been trash?

Replies

  • I'm a center and play as a 6'1, 201 lbs grinder.

First boost is quick wrister, this allows me to have an 85 accuracy and 83 power if I remember correctly.

Second boost is defensive stick, this gives me a 90 something stick checking which is obviously helpful

Specialty perk is either the defensive stick (activates in your zone), iron lungs, or deflections.

This is my go to build if I'm playing in club or with a group in drops. You can pretty much do it all and still have size to hit most of the opposing forwards as everyone seems to be pretty small for the most part.

However if I'm playing alone I want to be able to snipe in case my team sucks so in that case I roll a small sniper 5'7, 169 lbs with Quick wrister, offensive awareness, and quick release for specialty. I average a hat trick a game with this build.
  • I will say the deflection perk doesnt seem to be as good this year so I have been using it less
  • Worth mentioning that if you are good at the game you can make just about any build work. The only builds I stay away from are dangler and enforcer
  • I run a Sniper full time on defense. It does as well as any class for incidental contact, it intercepts passes as well as any build, it can pass pretty much as good as any other class (especially with the online passing assist, if you use it) , it is fast and agile and it has great shooting capability. Pretty much everything you need on defense....

I use Quickstep 2 as my main trait.

2nd trait I mostly use Slapshot Power 2, but sometimes I swap it out for Heavy Hitter 2 in dropins.

Specialty trait is pretty much always Onetimer Specialist.

Don't recall exactly, but I think my Sniper build is something like 5' 11" and about 190lbs, give or take. I'd have to double check. I play LD and my build shoots right handed.
  • On Defense? I used to run a DD last year. This year during the trial I went with TWF to keep up with the rocket skates EA gave the forwards. Still play the same way though: get in position, push them to the boards, protect the post and the crease and annoy the crap out of anyone camping around the goalie waiting for a one-timer pass. Traits are Good Stick, Hockey IQ and specialization is Iron Man.

I haven't played offense, but I usually run a PWF with Lazer Passing, Quick Release and specialization is Stretch Passing. (I like to set up others to score).

Goalie? Doesn't matter, they're all bad and let in bad goals regardless.
  • Boosts barely do anything this gen

It's the absolute only reason I ever buy this game. EASHL 6s until the player base dwindles and then I switch to EASHL 3s.

If they completely stripped the game of everything except EASHL, it wouldn't change a thing for me.

I'd be all over it but I can't fathom wasting half of my night away sitting in lobbies trying to find games. I also hate how the game basically forces us to get into crappy communities with people who suck or people who take the game way too seriously in order to try to find games faster.

Well we can agree on that. Luckily though I have no issues finding games quickly enough and I very rarely have connection issues. The community though, that is another story. Never changes.

Do you play with buddies or do you have a magical gaming system?

Play club and drops. Either way, doesn't take all that long to find games.

If I have a buddy or 2 I can get mostly full lobbies on xbox, if a queue up alone I almost never see a full lobby, I would say 60% will be missing 3-5 spots and expire.

you know, it's funny (well, actually it isn't) that some people get hooked up with full lobbies no problemo, and yet others struggle to get a partial lobby filled.

Weird and should be looked into imo.
  • Oh weird, I thought that everybody was just stuck playing games that never fill up. I could never find a 6s lobby to save my life. I forgot that's the main reason why I quit online.

When I played the Trial and the Free Play Weekends on Xbox One, there was almost always 6 players per side and on most nights. Even NHL 19 towards the end, before NHL 20 came out, you could usually find full 6s rooms in drop-ins within 20-30 seconds.

Now, during the course of the game, that's another matter and I'd say most games, probably 99.8% of my games never ended 6v6. The usual script for a drop-in game would go like this: one team dominates and scores a bunch of quick goals in the first period (or two), then a bunch of people on that team quit out. Once the AI players are on the ice, the other team stops attacking all together because *ahem* the AI is too OP and the team that was down quickly ties it up and sometime even gains the upper hand. Now players from the team that was leading quit in bunches.

If you manage to stay until the end, you're usually playing with 2 other teammates, maybe 2 or 3 human opponents on the other side as well, while the rest are AI.

It's not much better in 3s where you often end up with 1 or 2 players quitting per side, either because they're upset or because of connection issues.

Maybe if the game was better instead of so nonsensical, people would stick around more. If goals came by because of effort instead of "just because". If goals were harder to come by, people would feel like if they put the effort in, maybe they can come back and so they'd stick around.

But no... Let's let scoring be random. People like goals, right? Let's just let them score all willy-nilly because "goalies gotta get sniped"... *sigh*
