Kindness doesn't alway get repaid don't get scammed like me

So I'll start by admitting this is 100% my fault and i was dumb for doing this.

So last night i was playing rivals and my opponent had a mic. So we ended up jumping in a party because the audio was bad . We just talked about NHL and HUT. His team was pretty stacked mostly over 90 overall player with a bunch of 93's. I ended up losing 4-3 it was a good game.

To put this in perspective I like helping other players and earlier when the game came out i had more time and helped players that were struggling when playing against me. I would sent them cards 85-88 range to help them for free and I've done this every year that i played. Never got anything back but hey that's all good.

Anyways imagine my surprise when he offered to help me! So it wasn't anything crazy but we agreed i would send him my 89 duos Laine, 90 Flashback Marleau and 88 PT Larkin for 90 Rantanen ( not stadium) and 93 Zetterberg. Anyways being an the idiot that I am I posted a silver player for trade and he did too. He sent me a screen shot of the offer on PSN and while talking we agreed to press send at the same time with our offers. The second he saw mine I got kicked out of the party. I really laughed because i knew 100% I had just lost my cards.

I think it's pretty sad that players to this to other players. I play NHL every year and always help out ppl and i really enjoy HUT this year because i can be competitive without spending a cent on packs. But now my team is gutted so that some loser can sell my cards probably worth 300k ish total and maybe buy another decent card while i just lost my #1 winger #2 center and #3 left wing.

I reached out to EA and received the response that would except which is basically : Sorry you got scammed. We cant get your cards back. You shouldn't of trusted a player you don't know. We will investigate. You won't know the outcome.

So in the end i guess that there's always people like that out there just be careful. i am overall super happy with HUT and i have fun playing it but when something like this happens it sucks and i don't have the time to regrind all this.

Be weary out there!

That sucks, kudos to you for helping people out though... I would stick to trades through the auction house the normal way... as u found out some people dont give ripping someone off a second thought
  • Sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately there a lot of dishonest people playing this game. They will con you for coins or cards.
Years ago they had a scam offer to duplicate your expensive cards and like in your situation you will never see your cards again.
When OP offered that deal, I told him ok but I am recording and reporting his offer to EA. The guy left our conversation leaving skid marks lol.
Going forward, only trade or buy through AH.
Also, don’t fall for any needy people asking you to help out when they see you have a stacked team. They are scammers that resell your items.
    I bleed hockey!!!!!!!!!!
  • Totally agree again it's 100% on me for being trusting I think the crappiest part is that there will be most likely nothing done to the other player. And he will continue doing it to other players.

And then their are people that come on here saying they got scammed ... to scam other people into giving them freebies... not saying the OP is doing this but just giving a heads up to anyone reading this
  • Fair enough man I don't need freebies and didn't ask for anything just trying to make ppl aware but yeah I guess it's also possible that people would pull something like this to get freebies.

This is an extremely unfortunate story to read and I'm terribly sorry about the deceitfulness from the other player. It pains me to see these posts because I know how much time and dedicated people put into building up their team, so I imagine for a lot of players it's a tough thing to swallow. Our Support unfortunately can't assist in these situations because we can't really enforce what type of agreements took place over third party channels, nor can we really choose sides of who is really telling the truth. The sports teams are always looking for ways to prevent outcomes like this by improving trading features, however it's up to the player to make sure the trade is fair before selecting the button to initiate it.

We appreciate you coming to the forums to advise other players about your experience to help avoid it happening to them. These type of players can be reported here for our teams to investigate, however due to privacy concerns we cannot disclose the final outcomes of those investigations.

I know this response is unlikely going to be the most desired one and again want to thank you for coming here to warn others.
  • Thanks :) I already did to steps to report this individual. It's fine I knew from the start I wasn't getting any compensation for my mistake . If this this experience helps just one other player than I am happy. In the end it's just a game.
Thanks for taking the time to respond
  • Post his gamer tag, let’s torture the guy
  • Cant lol it's against forums policy and they will just delete it. Anyways Tried some rivals and i am getting completely destroyed as all my synergies are broken. I am done with HUT you guys enjoy, time to move on for me.
    Peace gents
  • I had same thing happen few years back learned the hard way too. They still try and get me with those scams

wow sorry man. Thats the problem with this and online games....people only care about winning. People like those are also probably the exact ones playing this game like peewee hockey and complaining he cant score enough without hitting this darn passing button that was for some ungodly unknown reason, programmed into the game

I hope you're not going away for too long. We need more people like you.
Here is my take on this, and maybe the way you should see it.

It cost you 3 good cards to learn a lesson here. Don't trust anyone online. It's a heavy price to pay especially when you can't compete in Rivals anymore. But if you learned from it, you didn't lose everything.

In fact the way you should have proceeded, and maybe a way to see if you were getting scammed or not, was to ask him to put an auction for his first card for 1 million coins (Rantanen) and then add your 2 players (lowest value) in the trade option.
Then the second trade would have been 1 vs 1 (Laine/Zettergerg).

This is very frustrating to read, can't imagine how it is to live it. But as more cards lvl 95 and over are coming out, the overall price of decent 90 ish players is going down.

Players similar to Laine with 2IT and 2X are a bit rare, but I'm sure you can find a very decent replacement for Marleau and Larkin.

I won't give any of my cards up for reasons others stated before, but if you're interested I don't mind helping you find cheap and decent replacements for what you lost. There are some underrated gems out there.

Laine is a tough loss, but the 2 others are easily replaceable within a few weeks.
