Custom Games for NHL 21

Would it be possible for NHL 21 to include custom games for game modes such as VS and 6s where we can adjust our own sliders and set our own presets?

I was playing offline today and was thinking, "Man, I really wish I could try these sliders in a game of 6s just to see how the game would flow..."

Alas I knew this wasn't an option, however if we were to allow custom games with custom sliders (ones where you matchmake via a pin/password system) then we could really see some cool ideas of how this game SHOULD be played to emulate a more aim-like experience. Not only that, but it'd completely revamp ideas of how EA can itself tune to see if people truly like a Sim experience VS a more arcade feel to it. Of course it'd be unranked, but I'd rather play an unranked game that's tuned to a realistic game of hockey over a ranked game that's tuned to look like an arcade game.

If we could upload our sliders, and then apply them and possibly even have leagues like LG using them, it'd be absolutely cool to see the true potential of this game.

  • I would love this feature! I’d like to see an updated version of the old “online leagues” mode make a return. The Show 20 has a similar mode being added this year, and I’d love to see NHL get something similar.

I’d also like the old offline tournament mode (the one FIFA has) brought back, but that’s for another thread.

That was the original extended plan when we added the new preset system. My goal was for players to not only save and load custom presets offline but to be able to share those.

The piece holding us back right now is a proper sharing system. People also really want roster sharing in the game so the thought was to tie these two pieces together if we were able to get that into plan.

So unfortunately, nothing that I can confirm about what we will do but I can definitely let you know that I share your interest in having that ability and have it high on my request list from the modes team that covers those types of systems.

The best case scenario, we get a vault where you can share your custom preset. It can be 'liked' and 'approved' by people. That way once you have seen a slider set called 'HoodHoppers_Sim_Sliders' and looked through it's details and 'approved' it, you would then know that it is the slider set you approved when you get sent a custom invite using that preset.

If you were to make a change to it after that fact, it would reset all 'likes' and 'approvals' so that players would know it is no longer a trusted slider set until they personally review it again. This would work great for both friends playing custom games as well as leagues that want to run league approved presets/slider sets.

    That sounds pretty cool actually.

Thanks for sharing that info Ben.

I'm glad to hear, and I hope you're able to get your request up there because I think it will absolutely propel this game back to being one of the better sports titles.

Also, can we get a few more sliders in there while we are at it?

Things like goalie save recovery, goalie positioning (for how often they are in perfect position against shots, or how quickly they get into those positions), ai passing tendency, ai shooting tendency, ai hitting tendency, ai poke checking tendency, ai deking tendency, ai shot tendencies from specific areas (how likely they are to shoot from places such as the slot, goal line, behind the net wrap arounds, the point, the half-wall), ai one-timer tendency and maybe some other ones if anybody has any other cool ideas. :)

Your sliders are honestly the best in any sports game but if those could be implemented would be sweet.

Great suggestions. Definitely always all ears to suggestions in that realm. We haven't unfortunately had a chance to dive back into outward facing sliders since we added the presets but it is definitely something I would like to do.
