Can you guys do anything about the power play because whenever I vs the cpu it’s non stop everyone on the team moving around instead of staying in one position and playing it like a real life power play
Thats called cycling sir
You don’t “cycle” on the powerplay lol (well, at least in areas where good hockey is played). The AI in the game when running any powerplay will immediately move to “cover” for your open spot as soon as you remotely move out of their preferred bubble. That’s not how you run a powerplay.
.
Powerlays are about isolating defenders with a mix of movement and passing to force defenders to make a decision. I mean, 5-on-5 hockey is about this too. Creating time and space and 2-on-1 scenarios where defenders are forced to only cover one option. Powerplays have the luxury of already being at a man advantage so you can afford to condense the zone, be a little more static in your positioning, and have all non-puck carriers in shooting positions.
If I start an overload on the side boards, I literally gain nothing when I start cutting to the net, and the low guy starts moving towards the boards where I was. What was gained there? How did that isolate a defender? How did that make the defender make a decision? At that point, that’s not even cycling, that’s just useless movement. This is a completely valid complaint, and it’s the reason the PP doesn’t come very close to resembling a real PP. Too much movement, not enough passing, and WAY too passive/conservative which prevents great passing plays from ever forming.
Well after all that, I’m glad to see we have TWO AI improvements in this patch! I am extremely excited to the get some league games in this weekend and see if the changes are noticeable. I’m absolutely loving the attention AI have received in discussions and hopefully now in actual gameplay this year. Makes the offline community feel like we have a voice, even if it’s small and it wasn’t necessarily for us, I can assure you we very much appreciate the effort @NHLDev

Also, whats with it being easier to score on a pk than on a pp? I swear i score more shorties than pp goals.
Its not that easy to get controll over the puck in off. zone and take advantage of more room in combination when you are in PK you can build up a speed without a icing call, and becuse the most of us play a game were speed is the best weapon to score, there is no real handicap to play with 1 less(puck travels faster then player). The PK team gets a speed momentum on you that try to slow things down.
But if your opponents are real good, then every powerplay is a good chance of scoring.
But the game is now a BILLION times worse than it was. AI is absolutely all over the place chasing the puck and ignoring the open man back door. And since the player switching didn't get a fix (STILL hasn't been fixed since last gen) we still get control of the player at the blue line or the d-man that's lost by himself in the corner, when the puck is in the slot area. Pucks bouncing off the goalies and trickling into the net are an absolute bane now. Don't know if the goalie fixes have anything to do with that, but in 10 minutes of game time, I've seen 4 goals go in off the goalie an in. Two of them low to the ice shots that hit the goalie under the pads and deflected in. And two of them off the arms.
Can't wait to see how EASHL plays! /Sarcasm
Should've left well enough alone, EA . But hey, now Marchand can lose the puck on a penalty shot.
I mean, that's a STUPID (though very cheeky) thing to put into a patch (especially this late into the game) but, umh... Well played, I guess.
the pk was programmed better than the pp on purpose. the elite LTers were complaining they were constantly getting scored on on the pk ( because they can not play actual hockey ) so the ai was tuned better on the pk., so they could keep their advantage
I highly doubt ea will admit it is a bad bug, or they would have fixed it long ago. I would love, love, love to hear the explanation for this one......i do not even remember if it has been answered or not.

We had a very rare bug where players could lose the puck at the start of penalty shots if they got going to fast, similar to what happened to him that we fixed. We didn't actually make him lose the puck if that is what you actually thought.
As for the other changes, I don't think they would be related to anything in the patch and would have been there before. You haven't liked the game this year so a patch with some improvements to tighten things up isn't going to change that opinion and when you go in looking at it from that perspective, you are granted to find a lot of things you don't like and associate it with the changes.
We spend a year making a game with thousands of changes and people don't think they can see a difference and that it is the same game as last year. We put in a couple of things to tighten things up and can somehow make it a billion times worse...

I actually thought that it was funny as heck if that's what you guys did. Dumb... but funny.
As for the rest, I don't know how else to describe what I saw other than the AI made the game even more of a chore than I remember it being. Three AI players pressuring the puck holder when I was in front of the carrier to keep him away from the slot. And no, my defensive pressure is set to regular and stay back on the backcheck. As I read the list of improvements it seemed to me that the AI was going to be improved and I was going to finally be able to play solid defense to keep my opponents off the score sheet. But now it seems that even babysitting the AI gives poor results. I thought I was the only one and just checked it off to not being used to the new changes. Then I watched other players and they are having as much trouble as I am, so I'm not crazy.
Again, goalies were supposed to be better from what I read in the patch notes. And they do stay in better position now, but I saw them give up a lot of awful goals. I saw the puck deflect off the goalie in perfect position almost every goal that went in. I was dreading having to play Human G in club. But I just got the chance to play 2 club games, twice while I was in perfect position it hit me and deflected backwards into the net. The 2nd one right in the chest. Good news is that overall nothing's changed too much in 6s for me. I was at least hoping to see less "random" goals. I haven't yet experienced any issues with pulling away from the post while in post hug. My issue with that has been more of NOT getting the post hug to blend sometimes.
I know how you hate hyperbole and exaggeration. So maybe NOT a billion times worse. How's FIVE times worse... That better?

We didn't make drastic changes. The ai changes were to make the ai not react instantly to loose pucks on the rush and to remove the code that was causing issues with the weakside or lone ai stepping up into what they thought was a better spot to play their assignment and take away a passing lane. This should help some of the 2 on 0 and 2 on 1 cases where players thought the ai committed before they could take control of them after they got burned on the strong side or were late to switch to goal side defense.
The goalie improvements are when the puck is behind the net which should help with some weaker wraps and weaker shots on net 5 hole. So I wouldn't expect any changes outside those pieces.
@NHLDev. Are you guys tracking the hitting from behind? Like how it should be a major penalty and the AI do it all the time?
Meaning they are getting away with it or they are getting too many penalties? I haven't run into it myself and been doing a lot of ai vs ai settings testing lately. Granted more sim settings so maybe less hitting but would be curious on what modes and what contexts to fully understand.

I would be interested in seeing if there was a way to increase the number of penalties for the CPU on the default settings because there is a lack of penalties for the CPU on the default settings. The average NHL game has anywhere from 4 to 8 power play opportunities per game and NHL 20 doesn't get close to that unless you're an offline player who can use the sliders to make that happen. The penalties that need the most help are interference, charging, boarding, and cross checking. I don't think anyone will be upset with a greater number of penalty calls against the CPU especially if they are committing fouls.

Can I make a suggestion? Is it possible to fix the penalty you get for blocking a pass and the player falls.over you? Also the goalie interference is way out.of control. It I touch the goalie skate away and score a couple seconds later it's an automatic no goal. Even after the goalie resets him self and the previous play is over.. the penalty you get for going down on the ice to block a pass or shot is ridiculous though.. once the puck hits the defender it should not be a penalty if the guy shooting doesn't stop and trips over him.
I only play offline ,i play a bunch of game last night
the game feel great ..the game is really cool
.goalie are tracking way better
my only negative is you guys didnt fix the penalty system ,
