Where do you aim during a D to D 1-timer?

Fairly new to NHL21 and I’m only now just building my D pairings.

I’ve had difficulty scoring D to D 1-timers and was curious where I should be aiming my slapshots.

I know you’re supposed to aim low if you want deflections, but I’m merely trying to score goals from the point. So assuming you’re using off-wing d-men, do you guys find that you aim your shots either at the 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock position? Or 9 and 3 o’clock?
Or do you not even bother aiming and just let the d-man shoot it?

Thanks

I have my defensemen swapped, so LD playing as RD and RD playing as LD. Makes for a lot of one-timers.

Generally if I pass from bottom left of the screen to the bottom right of the screen, I'll aim to the left side of the goal.

Generally if I pass from bottom right of the screen to the bottom left of the screen, I'll aim to the right side of the goal.

This usually uses the goalies momentum against him. I'm generally not aiming high or low, just left or right. You hit it hard enough it will go in because of the goalie movement.
  • aim top corners farside, so 10h-2h
  • I too play my Blueline on their opposite points for just this play.

A slapshot will always rise so go low and whichever side the G is weakest. Hard to scout a human but I keep notes on higher rated goalies when they are released and use for reference once I find out what G they play.

In Squads I'll also factor the D strategy and sometimes it is just not a wise play to set up except off the dot.

    Cool
Yeah i always have my D on their off-hand for 1 timers
Sometimes I notice that even though a d-man is wide open at the point with no defenders around him and appears ready to wind up for a 1T, he’ll just not 1T it. It’s confusing to me why this happens. Yet, if it’s 90 Shea Weber, he almost always winds up when receiving the 1T pass.

First shot you aim for the head. Put the fear in that pillowed netplug. Let him know that YOU know he only chose tendy because he can't skate and he's scared to be hit. Old school, son!

Hehe, it would be nice if that was factored into the game somehow. Commentators can mention something like "the goalie looks rattled out there!"
