Let's Talk - NHL Soundtrack Discussion

Replies

  • Honestly I listened to that spotify. I'm not the biggest fan of some of that type of music but great job. The songs had some impact to them and I could definitely see myself keeping that sound track on for the menus to get pumped before some games. And that is without me particularly liking those artists.

Add a couple classic rock songs (maybe ones that are played in the arenas) and you have yourself a solid soundtrack.

    Well done.

I can tell you right now that the sound track gives me bad vibes, and that my feet will certainly be going “boom boom boom” to get the heck away from it. This soundtrack is like a backyard filled with stray cats, just sad.

We went from Avenged Sevenfold, FoB before they were awful, BFV, Paramore, Gob, Bowling For Soup, and many many more great bands to soundcloud wannabe pop singers and emo garbage garage bands.

Isn't music subjective though? I haven't liked probably 90% of the soundtracks over the last 20+ years because it's just not my style of music. I think the last song I really liked was from Jimmy Eat World on NHL 03. I'm sure we try to select songs that help add to the overall immersion, but with so many people with varying tastes in music, I doubt it'll ever make everyone happy. Turning the in-game music off is one of the first things I do as I like to stream my own from my PC.

It definitely is, but I just don’t consider indie-pop and indie-screamo really the “hockey vibe” lol. Due to how subjective it is and how it’s a impossible to satisfy everyone, it’s further proof that we need the custom music feature back in the game. Back to the original point though, I’d rather direct that money towards literally anything else but terrible indie music. Haven’t heard any of these songs featured in NHL 20 on the radio.

I haven't heard them either, but I also don't listen to music on regular radio. I know once in a while I'll hear a song from the soundtrack during a stoppage in a real NHL game though. It's always kinda cool when that happens. Even if I'm not a fan of the song, it's nice there's that connection between the game and real hockey. Custom music would be awesome. I used to create a few different playlists when we had this feature, but now I'd probably just rather have a Spotify integration.

I also like the idea of spending that part of the budget on something other than licensed music, but when we had just the orchestration music in 15 and 16, it was met with a lot of negativity. So, some music is probably better than none. Besides, there are also people that like the soundtrack. You have to always keep in mind these forums attract a fraction of the playerbase and there are really only a few dozen that regularly post here. It's not really the best example of the music not being widely appreciated.

I think music for the "hockey vibe" has changed over the years though. What truly is that vibe? When you see bands playing events like the All-Star Game or NHL Awards show, they are pretty radio-friendly bands, but do they represent the sport? Has there ever really been a defined style of music for hockey? For me, it's just whatever sorta pumps me up and gets me excited, but that could be anything from punk rock to indie hip hop. For others though, it's the bands you mentioned or something completely different.

I think rock, rap, punk all fit. I’d just like more “pump-up” music too, and most of the songs in the game right now are the opposite of that imo.

I’m not sure if all of this stuff fits NHL but here’s some random songs that I could see in a sports game.

    Rock/indie/psych rock:
    - Tame Impala - Elephant or lucidity
    - King Gizzard - Robot Stop
    - The bright light social hour - sweet madelene
    - isaac Delusion - How Much (You Want Her) 2017

Those shouldn’t be too far out there comparing to what we have currently or what we’ve had in previous games

    Hip Hop:
    - Run the Jewels - Talk to Me or Call Ticketron
    - Earl Sweatshirt - Burgundy (just mute half of the lyrics and you’re good lol) I want this to be my powerplay song tho
    - Pusha T - The games we play

It’s never going to be a thing but It would be really fun to upload and create my own arena playlist for a HUT team and an EASHL team. Don’t care about the menu music that much tho because I’m gonna mute it anyway and listen to my own lists.

  • I like this year's soundtrack even though I'm a fan of heavy metal. EA soundtracks are among the best in all their games. Unfortunately, you can't say that about the others ... impossibility to insert your own soundrack or need to connect to a Spotify account ??? EA fell asleep in 2007 and the skillstick was their last scream

Just give us custom music back, so everyone can listen to whatever the heck they want.
  • Last time it was good was 1996 and prior https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1rHq7TjSRrQ
  • And since I got back into this nhl 17, I’ve put music and commentary to 0. Makes game play more enjoyable for me

    That would be perfect.

I feel its almost imposible to get this right, it takes a really good track for me if im going to listen to it for about a year and still feel im not going to be sick if it goes again and again and again..

But becuse this game brings a whole lot of testo to the game, I would like to get down to some soft tunes between the games. More at meditating/relaxing direction, instrumental beats over 20 minutes, atleast, like background music you notice, but at the same time, dont make to much of a impression.
  • Honestly, I loved Powerman 5000's "Bombshell" to start off HITZ and was it 2005 that used Foxy Shazam? In any case, most of the last decade just hasn't catered to my personal tastes; not that every single song was bad, mind you, I just think most of the songs are trying to be way too broad/appeal to way too many people (which from a business standpoint I get)

Just allow us to use our own spotify/a flashdrive with personal songs and we'll be good - Anders Lewen's "Muscle Soul" (the Hill 137/Hamburger Hill song from Bad Company 2's Vietnam) was my team's favourite song to start the game with, I miss it

I’d just like to have music that I actually hear when I go to real life games in the game.

Yea something to actually get me hyped up and want to play hockey
  • Here's my 2 cent,
more rock and metal this time!

-Never gonna stop - Rob zombie
    -Dragula - Rob zombiee

    -Dreamscape - In flames
    -Wayfaerer - In flames
    -Hysteria - Muse
    -Mortal kombat theme song (lol)
-Anarchy in the u.k - Megadeth
    -Low - Testament
    -Hit that - The offspring

    -Painkiller - Judas priest

I always turn off the music a week or two into the new game. Some of it is the song selection and some of it just that the nature of being limited to 20 songs means I'll get sick of them quickly.

I would much prefer options to use created playlists from amazon/spotify/pandora etc. and the more app options available the better. That way we can choose our styles of music, update as new songs come out and make much bigger playlists to avoid soundtrack burnout.
  • Is it odd that there isn't a Snoop Dogg song in the game? Lol

I have always thought why they didnt add one when they added him aha. We ask for so much stuff to be fixed or added and they give us snoop dog screaming split the defense

It is so cringey... that announcer is super annoying..."I wouldn't say no to hugging it out with you!!"

The dialogue could have been so much better.

But ya. Why not add "gin and juice" or something. Some throwback West and East Coast hip hop. Sprinkle in some classic rock, some of the songs they play in the stadiums and viola.
