I don't think anyone should get too upset about a delay in the game's release. More people, I think, will be upset that it's not coming to the new Generation consoles, but that too, in my book, is a good thing. Let the devs take their time in finding out all the ways they can better utilize the new consoles power to make the game better.

On a sadder note, NHL 21 will probably be like NHL 15 or "Legacy Edition" was on the Xbox 360/PS3. Just a slightly more polished version of the game game we've been playing for the last couple of years. That means LT abuse will still be in there. So will the horrible AI players and goalies that keep falling for the same online abuse tactics we've been seeing for many years now.

All in all, this makes me glad as I am now decided to wait and have hope as we follow EA into its next-gen hiatus with this game. Maybe when it finally does come out on the Series X or PS5, it will be a game that more meets the standards truly great sports games like Codemaster's F1 series and NBA 2K series have become. With all the immersion, polish and excitement the sport of Hockey truly deserves.

So take your time EA. We'll be waiting...

"NHL21 will launch on the PS4 and Xbox One but can also be played on next-gen consoles through forward compatibility"

Saying it isn't going to be on next-gen is a lie. It will be on next-gen just without next-gen features.

You know what I mean. Of course it's going to be available through back compat on the new consoles. That's through no effort on EA's part to make it cross-gen compatible but on Sony and Microsoft who are going to make the games playable on XB1 and PS4 available on Series X and PS5.

Again, I see it as a good thing. For one they won't need to throw as many resources into putting NHL 21 on the current consoles and concentrate all their efforts into the next gen versions.

I personally hope the tweaks and changes to NHL 21 allow them to coast on game features for NHL 22 and focus on getting the most out of the next-gen systems. I would think a tuned game to an SSD would do wonders for things like simulation of seasons and such.
  • Same thing happened when NHL legacy (360) and NHL 15 (Xbox one). Look what happened.. let's hope they learned from this huge disappointment, if anything take what's worked, implement it in 22, as well as listening to what we've been wanting since features have been taken out that made 14 enjoyable to play..

Yeah. Hope that fans enjoy the next gen NHL game for next year since NHL 21 isn't on next gen.

You're off by a year. Legacy Edition on the older systems was when NHL'16 came out.
  • I agree with most of what keysersoze posted.

There are too many game modes fragmenting an already smallish community. There is one's, 3's arcade, 3's drop in, 3's club, 6's drop in, 6's club, people doing 2's and 3's in 6's club. I feel like I may have missed a couple. It is just so confusing and there is too much.

The game was in its prime with the lobbies and 6's drop in and 6's club.

Give us jersey selection again, let us play in real NHL rinks again.

If "chel" is here to stay make it it's own standalone arcadey product... more profits for EA right?

Let's get back to the fundamentals. The game is still called "NHL" not "do you even chel brah".

Yeah. Some of the things we need when NHL goes to next gen possibly next year.

The threes eliminator, the ones, ProAm, and the outside rinks should all bite the dust. If you’re going to make arcade hockey, do it right as a stand-alone game. No reason to have the community split into 5+ different modes.

Sadly, I think they're going to continue to force drop in to play in the clown gear and outdoor assrinks. It's a level of advertising for them, after all. I prefer using the boards in an NHL style rink for advertising rather than seeing ADIDAS on a black sweat shirt. I can't think of anyone who hasn't been asking them to bring back drop in as it was, at the very least.

Or keep them and bring back custom lobbies so we can find games easier.

Imagine custom lobbies with custom sliders. That’d be incredible! Can’t wait to see the “pros” rocking 100/100 acceleration, 0/100 fatigue effects, 100/100 puck control, and 100/100 pass interceptions lol.

On a serious note, custom lobbies would be great! Making a 6s league would actually mean more as different leagues would have different sliders. You could legitimately run a “simulation” league with that feature.

Custom lobbies would be very nice to see.

This is why CrossPlay needs to happen IMO.
