Daily remember that a large majority of drop-in players wants to play in an immersive hockey environment with real jerseys, hockey equipment, arenas and crowds. Why not give an arena/outdoors game option?
You don't even have to get rid of the outdoor rinks completely, just add some real rinks into the mix.
Maybe right before the game starts have a quick rink vote... display 3-5 random rinks, a mix of indoor/outdoor, and have everyone in the lobby vote. Many games do this with Maps.
As far as the clothing goes, I definitely prefer real jerseys and gear. At least bring back actual jerseys, all the other stuff (Socks, toques, etc..) can stay and be unlocked. I think that's a fair compromise.
well, ill answer that for you buddy. ea has been selling patches and dlc as full brand new game at full price. therefore they sale a pathetic amount of units, and literally a handful of people play the game and your lucky to even get 12 people in your game

From my understanding the team wants the drop ins to appear outdoors to give club feel a more competitive/professional look. I can see their point of view on that if you compare it to a pick-up game of basketball out on the outdoor courts, while a league you play in has dedicated venues for their sports program.

basically they want it to be a BAD experience because they are trying to ruin this game mode? Genius

You can still do that with rinks, just make them look like minor league local rinks.
It's pretty clear that this vision of their's has not been well received by most players, at least from what I've seen. So I guess the question remaining is how long do they plan to stick to this path and risk ticking off their customer base.
Completely agree. I haven't talked to a single person who enjoys the outdoor crap. Game feels completely different and NOT for the better. Wish they'd scrap the outdoor stuff entirely.

Let me expand on that so as to not seem entirely asshattish...
The cover of the game literally says "NHL 21". It's started with "NHL" since day one. Up until 2018, drop in was in an arena, and we could pick and choose from so many teams in leagues around the world. We liked that.
2018 comes along and you relegate us to an outdoor rink with horrible shadows and colors, and "clown gear" that has to be unlocked through the most tedious and boring method of "opening" a bag. I have yet to encounter anyone that actually prefers this mode. Players complained...we begged for a return to the old. Instead, in 2019, you expanded the outdoor rinks, and made it so bad you had to remove the canal rink for good. One would think the negative outpour over drop in from the last two years would have been the catalyst to return to something we liked, and try to improve on that.
Instead, here we are with the mode we really don't like, and the excuse seems to be, "we don't want that group to experience as polished a level of play as other groups". Not all of us have club to play in regularly, especially due to work schedules. We bought the game hoping for NHL style play, regardless of the mode we choose, or at least have a choice...but that is no longer the case here, and it's frustrating.
Maybe the "team" should try communicating with the players on what we most want in the game vs them dictating it.
Couldn't agree more with everyone in this thread. It actually makes the functionality of the game worse, because the shadows are inconsistent on the ice.
I also agree with everyone that wants the outdoor rinks gone and everyone I play with feels the same way. At least get rid of the blue ice. The majority of the gear is a joke too! I don’t take a lot of players serious if they’re wearing some of that crap!
All of these posts really reflect how terrible drop-in really is. Took me 7 hours a week ago to get a game at 3pm PST. Then once we get one, half the team quits and we're playing 5 vs 2 and the overpowered A.I. Only having the option to play outdoors, and not have jersey selection is one of the most bunk parts about this game. PS3/Xbox 360 had community lobbies, which made it easier to find games for us who work late nights and wanted to play a decent game of online hockey. We grew a community out of it, and got to know many skilled players. It was easier for us to build clubs that way also. Since 2018 building a club has never been more frustrating, as the outdoor environment is 100% different from indoor. Seems like we active players are being ignored and it's all about what the " team " wants in the game. Majority of us want old drop-in back, with jersey selection to have the option to pick our teams from different leagues... After all we are the ones paying the hefty prices for these games. NHL 21 was a kick in the teeth for me, and I barely play it as it has made me hate online gaming for the most part, especially with all the irritating antics from some of these exploiters... NHL 22 will have to be a major step-up or I and many others will be officially done...
Outdoor rinks are crap. Clown gear is crap. I also have never met a player that likes it. Most just want a clean game with no errors in it. This game has beta problems in it that have not been addressed.

yesterday I watched 4 top players uninstall this game. One is someone I know who lost 7-2 against a 71 overall HUT team. He then went to EASHL drop-in as club wasn't available and the team he was on trolled. He went on a rant how much he hates current drop-in and is considering joining a bunch of us on PS3. I quit NHL 21 online myself, as I have become overall frustrated with some of the players who exploit every broken physic within this years game. Dealing with non-stop typical strategies. Either opponent rags the puck, or stays still. I forecheck get the puck for a second and it gets glued back. This morning I poke checked my opponent off the puck 5 times in a row and he still had the puck, and scored blocker side as that has been the biggest exploit for years. EA just doesn't care anymore, so why do we customers bother buying this game? I have no idea! Maybe because it's the only game out there that has real players in it. Yet every year they move backwards and continue with this Fortnite/Arcade style crap...
It's not the outdoor rinks that bugs me so much, but just that you can't play 6v6 with NHL teams.
Hockey is a team sport.
The NHL plays it as a team sport.
We pay for the NHL license, why can't we play 6v6 NHL hockey with line changes and all our favorite teams and jerseys?

This is a great idea.

The "team"? What about the "players"?
