I don't think that we are debating that you can stop cross crease passes, you can. Just not often enough. That's the issue. There's lots of passes that go through that shouldn't. Through like 3 guys. You should never be able to force a pass through 3 guys unless they're not angled properly.
Let's see one video of a passing going through 3 guys. Please.
I believe I've provided enough hard evidence to prove that it's defendable.. yet nobody has provided any videos that show what you're talking about.
I guess it's OK either way, if they wanna make the cross creases more hard to pull off, fine by me.. Would hopefully lead to more variation. At least I hope so..
But the reason cross creases happen has to do with alot.. So I dont really know how to just fix that.
I would, like always, appreciate an even better A.I...I would love to see.. If the other player turn away from the play, that the other's AI get a boost.. And easier could turn over the puck, to the one that play better position and challenge the opponent... To encourage real hockey.
*And the main reason why you get a cross crease against you, is probebly cause you forced to hard for a cross crease you self.. And just leave the defense to the fate. Almost everyone I played so far, is - only - trying for that goal. Almost insane.
I don't think people would ever mind about more variation. Here are some statistics. The top 2 6's club and my club's goals/goals scored with a one-timer.
1. 441 goals scored / 291 scored with a O-T
2. 290 goals scored / 145 scored with a O-T
Us. 267 goals scored / 120 scored with a O-T
Decent teams are averaging half of their goals scored by O-Ts. I can guarantee you that almost all of these are cross-crease O-T/Tap ins. The top 10 6's teams all have over a 30% success rate of scoring on their O-Ts. That. Is. An. Insane. Percentage.
!!!!!!
Gifs tell 1/4th of the story AND can be subjective. Data never lies.
Yeah I dont doubt 1timers is 98% of the goals that scores.
In rivals no problem, cause I meet players that I can play my hockey and still be equal, but in champis, if I meet a guy thats 'good' at playing 'forced cross crease hockey, I dont gonna waste my fun in this game by playing that, I just quit and move on till next.
If people wanna spend time to score as many cross creases they can in 1 year, be my guest, I for one, know im gonna play hockey and enjoy the ride.

1. You have no way of guaranteeing that
2. The stats only show that a lot of teams are leaving themselves open to being scored on a cross crease.
Gifs tell 1/4th of the story AND can be subjective. Data never lies.
um..... My gifs literally are not subjective. I don't even know what kind of mental gymnastics someone would need to jump through to look at a piece of video that captures the defending of the cross crease and then say it's 1/4 of the story... like honestly.
Provide us just ONE video of a cross-crease that you feel couldn't be stopped no matter what.
Just ONE.
And I mean the whole thing.. not a jerky instant replay of you picking a convenient angle..
Show a video of a rush that ends on a cross crease and explain why you think it couldn't be stopped.
Until you provide that... the rest of your arguments just don't hold any water against all of the hard evidence I've provided.
More examples of stopping the cross crease using DSS&R3 and more proof the cross crease is entirely defendable - with the exception being some inert A.I. coverage in front of the net which desperately needs to be addressed:
Here I am doing the impossible.. intercepting a cross crease. How? I move LS in the direction of where the pass is coming from with the player I'm controlling facing the pass:
I believe the key is to keep moving your feet - be active. No longer can you just skate backwards and sit there - time to be ACTIVE defenders!
Maybe not entirely stopping a cross crease, but clearly the player is looking for that option - I'm preventing him from forcing it - so he tries to go stop shelf against the grain.. and I use DSS and body positioning to stop it:
Here's a penalty kill where my opponent is clearly looking for that cross-crease money but I won't let him:
(For those who claim player switching is 'broken' - please watch this clip closely. I'm able to take control of EXACTLY the player I need to the entire time. No problem whatsoever)
Thanks for the constructive feedback. If you could get some video, that would help. Especially when it comes to the penalty issues you're seeing.
As far as auto-fights go, those happen when you injure someone. You mention using a bigger player and being forced to fight a lot so it also sounds like you play a very aggressive, big-hitting game. Apologies if I'm wrong, but if that's the case, you're going to open yourself up to more fights with that style of play.
I get them even when I don’t injure someone at times. I’ll see if I can get a clip of that also. I didn’t realize that’s the only time it should be triggered. In that case, that may need a look as well.
The cross crease does 100% need to be more challenging. Easy pass that never gets intercepted and press up, BOOM hardest slap shot one timer every time regardless of attributes, positioning or control. This game in 1v1 modes already sucks big time.
In the 2 games I played today I had 2 DIFFERENT players get breakaways and curl around to wait for forced cross crease and scored one timers instead lool anyone who says cross crease isn't ridiculous in 1v1 modes literally must play in division 10.
Guys, I've been wrong all along. You're right. It's very easy to defend the cross-crease. You don't even need to poke. Just stand unmoving near the front of the crease, in front of the goalie like an idiot and pucks bounce right off you and then good things happen. Added offensive bonus here is the deke, while pressured, in the middle of traffic with 100% retention. Anyone heard of an offensive skill gap lately? I sure haven't.
Or you can be like this guy that tried to poke my 90 MPH pass and ate it for breakfast. These are the types of passes you don't see in Div 10 and people know how to manipulate them enough that if they want them to get through, they'll get through. I'll keep saying it. Things are different when you have 8-12 independent players with EASHL speed and let's not forget, EASHL lag.
One Dipsy-doodle move + EASHL Lag = Just hit the brakes and they'll fly right on by.
But don't fret cheeky buggers! Pass intercepts still exist as you claim! As long as you have the T-1000 on your team, he'll smile at your 90 MPH passes and snatch is perfectly on the stick.. when it's already past him! The puck even stops before the stick gets there. Maaaaaaaaaaaagic tricks for all the kids.
And @Snipecity98XB1 You're not wrong. One-timers are the meta! Why chance a stopped breakaway when you can do a double back pass that's almost a guaranteed goal when the goalies are so inept at 1) Anticipating the play and 2) Lateral movement. It would be nice to have goalies somewhere in the middle of more difficult, realistic, and consistent. Definitely not of the 20 variety where 40 shots on goal netted you 2 goals and for the other team, 5 shots on goal, netting them 2 goals.
Just like in 20, you learn to play the way the game forces you to play. If you want to be effective that is. There's no randomness in NHL 21 and people know how to work the mechanics to their advantage, but EA can do something about it. Hopefully not like they've been doing the past few years by nerfing the D to oblivion, where every rush against you is a hodge-podge meta lag fest of bull crap with the D often running around with their heads cut off, NOT because they're inept at playing D, but because what other choice do they have???
My god just buff the defense and nerf the offense already, so that we can actually have more realistic play with realistic scores all around.
And on top of all of this cross crease mumbo jumbo you have the incredibly frustrating "magnetic puck" where the puck carrier magically get the puck back even though you have performed a perfect poke check. I can't count the number of times this happens when a forward has the puck along the board. You can literally SEE the puck just glide right back into his stick, not losing his speed, and then just go on into what most likely result in the above, a cross crease...
(sorry for my english but I think you know what i mean. ;) )
Often the reason for that BoboFreddie, is that after poking with your stick, your stick clipps the opponent's stick, skate, or body in such a way that it becomes immaterial, and therefore you can't interact with the puck. Whereas the other guy retains solid stick, and it's easy to just pick the puck again.
What if in these situations, both player's sticks lost their solidness, imagine the rage of these offensive top-players?!

Oh no, some sort of realism! That would be horrible! ;)

While I'll still say every so often the squad battles games my team play like molasses and have the talent of 5 year olds, after playing some rivals games online, I've been breaking up the one timers pretty frequently. I'm still ultra annoyed that my stick grazing a skate blade invalidates any actions I take, but the one timer isn't as bad to deal with as I expected. But that stick on skate crap has to go, or be tuned to be a little more lenient.
One game nothing I did would work, but that was probably just the awful regional matchmaking (wasn't there supposed to be a way to choose our region added? ) as the whole game was sluggish and nothing worked. But so far, games feeling okay, although I'd love for d to d one timers to actually go where I aim. They're broken as far as I'm concerned. Same with short side cheddar when using a rh skater. Way too often the goalie makes a save with the shaft or tip of their stick on clean shots they have no business stopping.

D to D one-timers were also nerfed. Teenagers can fire the puck harder and with greater accuracy then that NHL is peddling currently with the D.
I mean, were D one-timers that OP in 20?
Thing is, if I'm in the slot and I get a pass from a forward I can one-time a bullet bat down with no issue. No sure what's going on here.

The d to d were nerfed because the elite twitch streamers didn't think it took to much skill for the it to be in the game ,but yet twirling with your back turn or circling in the corners waiting to abuse the bad AI is very skillful in their eyes and in the eyes of EA devs , oh and they also thought that the one timer of the face off was op as well , because hey knowing how to counter a face off well why should they when all they have to do is whine and complain and it's get's nerfed
It's really ashame and very frustrating because all the right things are in place for EA to make a great game all they have to do is stop listening to these so called top players

Who are these "elite twitch streamers". Anytime I search for some NHL twitch streams, I only find people that have at most 100-150 viewers...and even those ones seem like they are bot viewers cause no one is talking.
Anyways, I have never seen so many stick shaft saves. My buddy and I had 3 of them in one game. The entire net wide open and an amazing stick save.
As far as d to d one timers, I have a lot of trouble with them as well. I seem to do better with snap shots.

Lol H ,on here you can't really call people out and it's understandable but trust me they're there and I've watched some in the past and it was one of their grips about the game ,and as far as the goalie's in my opinion they're not to bad ,in one game I played my opponent's goalie made a diving crossbody glove save which I never saw in any EA NHL game ,but goalie's are still very inconsistent ,and the for the the D to D they do need a bump ,in my opinion it would change the game a little bit if the D to D were better
I dont got this idea myself, but for thoose that having a really hard time to defend cross creases, without having pucks going through players and all that... You might have to try to have Auto-backskate 'on'.
Every previous years we have been told to turn that off, but beacuse there's another way to play defense in this year game, it might be worth a shot, try it, and see if you get any better.

What video here was supposed to show great defense not being able to pick off a pass? Literally zero opposing players displayed any finesse or control on their LS. Everyone constantly jerking LS around and it leads to forced passes. If you can’t have one out of five guys anticipate the pass and make sure they’re gliding in the passing lane, then the puck probably deserves to go through. I play with some guys too, they’re not very good but we always end up matching with LG teams who are sweatier than ever, and the only reason we give up goals is because the rest of my team is terrible undisciplined in our own end. Constant puck chasing, center gloating high, wings not getting to the boards to breakout, but I have had literally zero problems intercepting plays that I read correctly which is very often as I’m usually the one actually feathering LS, not running around, and remaining patient in my own end. When I’m forced to move LS or attack the puck and something goes through, that’s a nice play by the puck carrier who took advantage of beating his man to setup the opportunity.
Again, and I can’t stress enough, believing the pass interceptions are fine as is does not mean we agree with the balance of the game as a whole. I’ve been advocating for slower pass speeds and gameplay as a whole for awhile now because everything is way too fast for any sort of real hockey to happen. When I can sprint, stop, throw my hands behind my back and whip a 90 mph pass behind my back at an impossible angle for a perfect one-timer, human goalies and defenders alike can’t play realistic defense. When slow speed hits don’t work, when leverage isn’t a thing, when forwards bounce off the boards after getting hit to a point where it gives them an advantage, there’s no possible way to play realistic defense in this game.
Right now, we have a meta where human goalies can get sniped from the blueline for sitting deep (which is rather silly considering how much time you’d have to react IRL) which makes them more accountable, we have a needed nerf to pass interceptions to make defense more accountable, but forwards were given no further accountability/skill gap which is now sticking out like a sore thumb. I don’t think anybody disagrees with you there. All I’ve been trying to say this entire time is, advocate for forward accountability rather than reducing defensive accountability. If whipping a pass to a receiver 10 feet away actually resulted in bobbles/misses, having a pass sneak through because of the pace of the puck wouldn’t be as big of an issue. If one-timers missed the net more on tic-tac-toe plays, you wouldn’t notice the lack of interceptions as much. If forwards could bend time and space and make these ridiculous behind the back passes at full speed, the pass interception levels wouldn’t be as big of an issue.
I could go on for pages and pages about how the offense can do that makes playing the game as a defender very hard and frustrating. It’s comical how defenders and goalies have added accountability this year and forwards literally just can’t LT as well, but no other accountability required. Despite all of this, I’m still not going to advocate for more auto-interceptions for defenders. I’m going to focus on advocating for offensive responsibility rather than defensive buffs. Has the meta really been fun enough the last few years to request going back to it? 0-5 traps + almost automatic pass interceptions? No thanks. These were steps in the right direction, but you can’t tell 2/3rds of the positions to be better and not the other third. The balance is definitely off, but we clearly have different opinions on how to fix the balance.

Might have to drop in... 😊
(sorry for my english but I think you know what i mean. ;) )
What if in these situations, both player's sticks lost their solidness, imagine the rage of these offensive top-players?!

Missed the compliment. Thanks! A product of a group of guys playing together for years.
Yeah I could tell. Some great moves, we need more of that! 👍
