  • Hopefully we finally get some much-needed updates to the younger guys as well. And maybe, just maybe they will even release some roster notes so we actually know what was updated this time.

Maybe it's time to update the agreement with the NHLPA so EA can introduce roster sharing.

It's so incredibly annoying that in 2021, we need to wait for the game developer to move players on the roster whereas in previous generations (and in the competitor's game) - rosters could be developed by the community. Why didn't 2K have to abide by these rules but EA does? What is it about EA's agreement with the NHLPA that is so much different than 2K's?

I doubt the agreement with the NHLPA and EA is why there isn’t roster sharing. My guess is to give more incentive for players to buy new incarnations of the game. It handcuffs the player base to rely on the game maker to update the rosters... which of course the developers stop every year for the new game.
  • With all due respect to the roster update, but I was really hoping for a gameplay patch. Still do.. But that would probebly been something they would mention in this "roster announcment".

I can't understand why a game developer would want LESS community involvement.

If it's like you say - they're purposely handcuffing people to buy the new game for the new rosters - that's probably the most antithetical way to promote a game that revolves around the community.

EA needs more community involvement - not just Twitch streaming GameChangers. Nothing against most of those guys - but some of them offer nothing at all to this game other than demonstrating what exploits EA needs to weed out of the upcoming titles.

They are also against any gameplay changes that don't contribute to their specific skill level. They have a 'brand' they're trying to promote on Twitch, and if there's a gameplay change that they don't understand or can't get a handle on, they dismiss it and demand it be removed from the game rather than simply adapting. Again - not all Gamechangers, but some.

It would be nice to see community creations such as jerseys - and not the templates EA gives you but like an online web-base jersey designer you could import in to the game. (Logos, trademarks.. yadda yadda.. I know why this likely won't happen but it's fun to discuss ideas)

Plus - how about custom music? Bring it back already. Is this a console limitation? If so - then just tell us that so we can stop asking the same thing every year - 'when is custom music coming back'?

Integrate spotify and allow the community to curate real-world playlists from all 32 teams.

Improve the EASHL Lobby so that it's more interactive - letting people come shoot pucks while you wait for a game, etc.

Give modes like Online Versus a breath of fresh air during the real-world playoffs - this would allow people on twitch to run versus games in an environment that is close to what's currently happening on TV (during playoffs)

  • @KidShowtime1867 love the idea of being able to shoot pucks while you wait. Like destiny 2 you can tweak your character while your loading into the environment.

Maybe I’m being cynical re: roster sharing? I hope so. Another guess would be not enough time and resources to put it in the game. If that’s the case they should just take a year or two off, spend some time working on all the small things - the menus, the customizable music, roster sharing, BAP, new hockey strategies ....release a GREAT game that will last a few years instead of a passable game that you can’t wait for the next years to fix all the problems only to get a bunch of new problems and a bunch of the same old complaints.
  • With the amount of requests they get for roster sharing, I would think if it was in issue with the licence EA would say that as I more people would probably be more understanding why it has not been put in. Either way, the agreement 2K has with the NBA is far superior in many ways. This year’s draft class was literally added to the game the day after the NBA draft. I know that is not possible with the NHL as so many players go play in different leagues after they are drafted that it would be impossible to get the rights for them. However, they should definitely have a better agreement to be able to add players once they are signed to an NHL contract. Jack Hughes was put in NHL 20 before he played a game so that tells me they can acquire additional licences in order to speed up the process they just don’t. What’s even worse, is some players that are in the game at launch will be removed until they sign the AHL waiver, so we are looking at around March by the time we actually get accurate rosters this year.
It’s almost as if EA hired Kyle Dubas to negotiate the licence agreement with the NHL for this series.

Been saying this for years. You’ll never see a descent roster update until March. I just play a season with a fantasy draft to fill in the months it takes for EA to finally put out a comprehensive update.

And I also don’t like it when they delete guys that retire or play in Russia. Those guys can be used on the Alumni Teams.

Look at last year. They had Cam Ward and Niklas Kronwall sitting in the FA pool for the first few updates before they removed them. Why not just put them on Carolina’s and Detroit’s Alumni Teams? They totally belong there.

  • Because there aren't in the teams Alumni.
