Removing lobbies killed the “good casual” demographic of this game. NHL 09-15 allowed us to join a lobby and get usually an ok at worst game and a great game at best every night of the week. You could even have 10-12 friends join a private lobby and do drafts which meant 3-6 games of good hockey with different teams every game and every having a good time. This generation of matchmaking has been really really bad and took away everything this online community was built off of.

You can still have private lobbies. Yes, it's different than before, but you can still get multiple games in with different teams through private matches.

Although that is true, it has to be organized private lobbies. You simply cannot just get into a lobby anymore where you could see a total numbers of players playing in that server like on PS3/Xbox 360. That is why League Games seem to work best, as we have discords to use in order for games to work. As for casual drop-in it's not easy to get good games anymore. In communities, everyone knew who the trolls were. Yes sometimes they would follow lobbies, although if a kick feature was implemented for poor teamplay they shouldn't be allowed to return to that lobby for quite sometime. Kind of like how Siege is when you attack your own teammate. The current drop-in lobbies, are a pain to move around, and frustrating when you get someone who wants to grief and troll. Played 8 games with all losses because the goalie decides to troll and let in every goal, yet somehow never gets booted. It made me stop playing it.

What needs to be done about the current state of the game is simple! Bring back indoor drop-in with jersey selection, leave pond hockey an option and bring back for the sake of all of us the community lobbies so we late night gamers who have jobs can find games without spending 3 or more hours just to get a game that doesn't even get full.

And as for the HUT side of things, that mode needs to be fixed! The booters, raggers and same trap, skillzone, look for the cross-crease scenario is getting old. Many gamechangers have voiced their opinions, and either have just went to play LGHL only or move to other games. MLB is coming soon, and we need more than just a skill rating, roster, trait and jersey update from NHL 21 or the population is going to drop. It's only February and games are getting tough to find, especially in HUT Rivals. Hardly any of the top players are participating in Champs anymore, and that says something.

We need actual important issues addressed asap or this games going to crash.

The old way of private lobbies/games was simply better (easy and fun) and your explanation for its removal/change isn’t a justifiable reason.

The old way was like how we picked teams as kids in person. We all stood together while 2 captains picked the teams. Once everyone was picked and on a side we’d decide who plays what position. After the game repeat. If someone leaves then the person that recently showed up then joins.

The new way is like telling all those kids/friends to go home and set up teams in an online chat and then come back to the rink etc to play. It’s a pain is the **** (confusing and complicated) and that’s why the majority of us don’t do this anymore.

I think the REAL reason EA removed/changed this was because we largely depleted the general drop in and clubs population and wanted to make it enough of a pain in the **** to defer us from playing this way to force us to play club and drop ins.

EA needs to do the right thing and bring/change it back to the old way.
  • One of the great features about the otp lobbies was that you could still use the drop in function to drop into a game that was created via an otp lobby.

    Yes! Underrated feature for sure!
