NHL 21 Spam Poke Check edition!!!
I feel like I bought this game to play HOCKEY
Not a bunch of nerds who exploit the video game mechanics to win.
I set my players to play aggressive and up high.
My opponent just sets up a neutral zone trap and spams poke check. It looks ridiculous.
This game keeps going further and further down the drain.
I dump and chase and their defenders who have less speed just turn around and skate faster than I can get in deep. Even though I skate in a STRAIGHT LINE to get in.
How does it make any sense for a defender to be able to sit back, spam poke, then also have enough time to turn around and still catch me after I am ALREADY BEHIND THEM?
What's the point?
I have players with 99 speed and they get caught by players with 90 speed. My lines are fresh and their endurance is in the 90s as well.
Unbelievable. I am so glad I didn't buy this game this year. What a joke.

Slow things down, Turn around and move back. Play the puck between your D's meanwhile your forward CPU start to circle in the neutral zone.
Dump the puck sometimes. But don't be afraid to take the puck back for awhile. If it's not 'feels' right, go back, instead of forcing through..and start to search for other 'open lines' through the opponent's aggressive playstyle, even when you sometimes has to move out from the o-zone.
Confused.
Did you buy it or not?
I've been able to beat the trap by skating into the NZ and then passing back to a trailing teammate. For example, going up the right side, I'll pass across and back to my LD or laterally to another forward. There's normally now a gap to gain entry into their zone. It's not often I see people doing this. They force passes forward or skate directly into traffic. It's not often someone plays the puck back, other than to rag, to create space. You can watch real hockey and see teams doing this all the time. They utilize their teammates and move the puck to create open lanes instead of skating into traffic or forcing passes that result in turnovers. This is also the best way to avoid poke checks. If you're constantly getting poked, you're not moving the puck enough. You're letting opposing players get close enough to poke it.
Very well put.
Go back sometimes, but not to 'rag' do it to realese some pressure, start over, try on the other side of the rink.
Don't follow your exact same patterns all the time, people are pretty aware this days, how most of us play, use that, and take advantage of it by doing something unexpected.
Fire of a shots you normally wouldn’t, just to create another game flow.
He's not wrong. The poke check spamming in this game is absolutely atrocious and it seems like some games, some get away with it like crazy.
Essentially what this game comes down to is that if you're not glitching, spamming and using all the exploits, you're not going to win a game. It really makes for a FUN video game.
Maybe it was gifted to him? I realize you're apparently a coder, but there's more than 2 options to consider.
Sega. I appreciate your input. You have been replyig to my posts for three years. I was almost Div 1 in rivals in NHL 21. Div 3 this year. I still play HUT champs.
You seriously don't believe I have tried almost everything?
People post about using the thief synergy in other HUT groups and it's literally a game breaking mechanic. I have watched several videos of my player being poke checked PHYSICALLY through my legs and skates. All for no tripping call to be made.
However, you are sounding like a broken record at this point. I am often the one giving out helpful information. The only time I come to post on here is to talk to EA. Some of the information they provide is helpful. The other info is more or less "we will send it to the devs". The next year's edition comes out and guess what? The problem hasn't been fixed.
I understand EA devs have limitations but for years you can your players stick has been able to go through the boards or other players (shooting) and still be able to pull of perfect shots or passes. It's broken.
I feel like I am better off talking to a wall.
Done that. I set up in my defensive zone, wait for my players to break out, make the pass(es), and anticipate my opponent's defensive setup. If they're pulling back and not forechecking. I often either dump / chase or pass back to my defender to find another opening.
It's not a problem every game. What I said was it is a problem when I run into players who take advantage of game exploits. Players in other groups and figured out that using the thief synergy allows you to poke check without taking as many penalties (even if you stick makes contact with player's skates or legs). That's broken.
I will correct myself.
I meant to say I spent money on packs on the first part. Only $60, thankfully.
I am game sharing with a friend over xbl though. Didn't buy the game.
Yes, which is why I asked a question to determine what those other options may be.
Absolutely no idea why you're doing the "APPARENTLY you're a coder" bit. Has nothing to do with this. And there's no "apparently" about it, anyway. I am. It's my job. On top of that, a coder would be more likely to consider more options, as their code has to cover every foreseeable type of user idiocy.
But...nice shot, I guess?
We'll need to see video of this. Trips should be getting caused if a poke is contacting the skates of the player in possession of the puck.
I don't dump too often. Normally, I can work the puck around the NZ or drop it back to my zone to pull them out of positioning and create open lanes to enter their zone. It takes some patience though. Most people want to get up ice as fast as possible. I'll often spend an extra several seconds or so passing the puck around until a player is able to break out.
That will 'open up' the ice.
Unfortunately it's a rare way to play in this game.
I 'never' see anyone fall back after that I win the first faceoff. Thats usally when that 100% forecheck starts. Right after the first faceoff. Dosent mather that the score is 0-0...everyone plays like there down one with 20 seconds left of the 3th.
I dont dump that often... Happens.. But would be cool if you more easy could put the puck down in the circles (don't know if thats the right word though...? The corners..) with a slapshot that could go all the way to my left side.. If I did it from my right side before blue.
And I can feel it's pretty hard/difficult to get in right position to be able to play the puck from side to side.. In NZ for example. It's a perfect tool to open up space.. But pretty difficult to get your players in good set up to make it possible.
It's hard to play in a way that makes it enough obvious for the opponent that he needs to fall back. I sometimes play a whole game without my opponent using the L2. Only time he backskate is when he happens to switch to one of he's own players thats already backskate.
