I mean you need so many icons and so many GC to upgrade players. And you can’t include 1 GC and 1 icon in rewards.
Awlful. I’m done
Have you actually looked at the event details? Play squad battles and rivals (Champs if you get the points needed), and just through simply playing you can earn a 94msp. The best part is you have another 187 days to complete the challenges to do it. If you play the game enough, you can do it in under a week. Casual play takes longer but still probably a month maybe. Zero collectibles needed.

Look, I like the concept of getting the 94msp through gameplay and absolutely welcome it, but his point still stands.
That 94MSP is ONE player. And it takes 82 SB/Rivals/Champs matches to obtain. At 20 minutes per game, you're looking at over 27 HOURS of gameplay to obtain just one of the 19 players you would need to put together a top-level team.
And that's if you're scoring 5.8 goals per game on average, otherwise, you won't get the Bernie Nicholls section done.
If we'd had an objective player to play for in every single promo, that'd be one thing. But let's not suddenly decide that everything is fine and dandy and that player sets aren't ridiculously expensive, just because we can grind for one player.

I've been thinking about selling the Annunen and picking up Korpisalo for the synergies.

That's patently incorrect. You just might not like the choices, but other than maybe Howe (he's a little small for his slower speed but everywhere else has great attributes, they're all solid cards.

Maybe they're trying different things to see what the community likes. This being probably one of the better things they've tried, I'm gonna give them credit where credit is due.
With all do respect, games can be completed in 20 mins or less, and you can hammer out the vast majority of the effort quickly by playing sb's on rookie (rack up the goals, shots, hits, shutouts), once you get those done, just play the game to get the 40 wins and 82 games played. There's no event restricted time limit, so take your time.
If you're complaining about that, I'm sorry but you have no clue what you're talking about and should be playing versus if you're not up for a grind.
27 hours is a lot eh? Maybe play an hour a day and get a msp for a casual effort. I literally don't understand your argument here. You don't actually have one. Not a good one, anyway

Erm...I never argued that the 94 MSP was a bad thing. Like, not even once. I even said that I like the concept and I welcome it, but you've ignored that.
Although yes. 27 hours is a lot. It's more than a full day of your life, no matter how you split it up. For one player out of the 19 you'll need to run a squad.
You were responding to a guy who was complaining that players require so many collectibles to upgrade, by saying that he shouldn't be complaining because you can get a 94MSP for "free."
I don't understand YOUR argument, if anything. They're two different things.
You can get a free 94 Matthews (for example) for spending 27 hours playing. That isn't a bad thing. Nobody ever even remotely said that it was.
What they said was that player upgrades and sets are very, very expensive for what they are. Especially when EA has decided to remove collectibles from HUT Rush rewards. 950k worth of collectibles for a Blockbuster player that will sell for less than 700k was insanity. Or, there was the lower option, which took 320k worth of collectibles and 99 times out of 100, returned a player worth 30k. A 95 Lundqvist for close to a million coins of collectibles is just nuts. Needing 500k of icon collectibles to turn an 86 into a 91 is crazy, when you can straight out buy 91s for much less than that, and still keep the 86.
Doesn't even have anything even remotely to do with the free MSP.

Anyone will tell you not to build the msps, sell your golds, and buy who you want.
Use the milestone rewards to build msp's slowly over time, play minimum amounts of the modes you don't like, and focus on the modes you do enjoy, and get rewards from all, to either sell, or improve your team with a lucky pull.
The only people building msp's with straight up building collectibles should be the p2w people.
They need more things like the ability to slowly build players over time like the fantasy sets, as well as straight up players you can earn simply from playing the game(like the current event).
They should definitely rework how building msp's works so its more available to a wider player base, but as is, if you're not spending money on the game, you shouldn't be building msp's. Period(outside of milestone collectibles being used).
I don't play that much Rush but don't you aquire enough gold players to roll for a collectable if you max it out?
The playing 27 hours for only 1 player arguement is selling short the other items you accrue during that time. You are still earning coins and rewards that easily turn into collectables or higher rated players.
It is also a mistake to assign a coin value to Collectables or Master Set players because they list at a certain price in the House. I get that people overspend and you can make some easy coin but that ignores the "use value" of the item. Like how a car depreciates once you sign the papers, there is an assumed use of the item before reselling.
I would like to see the Event Challenges payoff in a decent rated player or collectable but you still get enough items to use elsewhere. The volume of the event challenges of late has made me appreciate the lack of rewards because it would be overwhelming to feel like I had to complete the 30+ challenges for the event. The 1 minute periods are great but the added number of games is counterproductive and the objectives are boring and dull.
I have enjoyed the Master Player Sets of late and think getting 2 cards with different synergies is a nice improvement. The Block Busters only cost 16 Gold Collectables or so and I expect this Style event is about the same.
The important lesson is the order of magnitude ratings use isn't that large and there's really no need to start building until the 95s come out. Even then it might be worth waiting for the multiple synergies.
I don't play that much Rush but don't you aquire enough gold players to roll for a collectable if you max it out?
Probably, yes.
But you used to get those players to roll for a collectable AND you would get an icon collectable as a tier 20 reward. Then, one week, just as the more interesting icon upgrades (which require stacks of icon collectables) started to appear, the 55k worth of icon collectable was replaced with a 15k untradeable jumbo premium pack.
This week, it's an NHL Player Choice pack, where the choice will likely be "which 81-rated player do you want?"
The playing 27 hours for only 1 player arguement is selling short the other items you accrue during that time. You are still earning coins and rewards that easily turn into collectables or higher rated players.
Indeed, though you would get those coins and rewards anyway, so they're not really a relevant part of the conversation.
It is also a mistake to assign a coin value to Collectables or Master Set players because they list at a certain price in the House. I get that people overspend and you can make some easy coin but that ignores the "use value" of the item. Like how a car depreciates once you sign the papers, there is an assumed use of the item before reselling.
I get what you're saying, but I don't agree with it. It's a digital good, so it can't be compared to a car in that manner. The life expectancy of a digital good isn't reduced with use, so it doesn't depreciate that way. Doesn't matter if I assume that the player I'm buying has been used for 20,000 games...he'll still play the same way for me, at the same level, and for the same amount of time.
The value of a non-finite, non-limited digital good is determined solely by the price that people are willing to pay for it.
I would like to see the Event Challenges payoff in a decent rated player or collectable but you still get enough items to use elsewhere.
Do we, though? Because the last time I checked, each set in the Event Challenges are paying out one monthly collectable, one event collectable (which have very, very little use on their own) and one random set item that has next to no value. Plus a relatively paltry amount of coins.
And the daily challenges are paying out a paltry 200 coins. Not even enough to buy a bronze logo to complete a reroll set if you needed to. I don't even know why those challenges exist.
If you completed every single challenge in the event set, you likely wouldn't have gained enough to build one gold collectable, let alone two.
Yet if you want to build one of the event players, you'll need dozens of them.
I think Master Set players should be expensive and the cost should increase as the ratings and synergies increase. Likewise, they should be harder to come by. I don't see the need to roll for every event's Master and I build up my 'stack' for those that I do want. This is done by picking up the other items and raking that 200 ante from the daily challenge.
I'll admit not playing every challenge and only play until I have what I want or need. I picked up 5 or 6 extra Monthly Collectables this event than I'd usually have and in past months I came up 2 or 3 short for an extra pack. This month I should be able to get both collectables and an extra pack, maybe 2. The items in those packs go back into sets to repeate the process. Completing sets is a Milestone and having items to do that is of value.
I play the game, I don't work it so I will always judge it by the enjoyment I'm getting. Challenge Objectives are dull and boring so I don't play all of them. Rush wasn't fun when the dekes were the majority of objectives but now that I see more shot types and D-play objectives I'm playing a bit more. This may be why EA has lowered the rewards, because they're easier to complete. That would make sense to me.
Regardless of why they did it, every game I play pays something that I can use.
There's no doubt this game rewards the good players that can achieve high levels in SB or Rivals. I can get Elite 3 each week and through doing that I've got a 91 team built up with very little paid for. I've lucked out on a few good players in packs plus just grind away to get icon and gold collectibles. I have two Fantasy players, Couterier and Boeser maxed out, 90 Daniel Sedin, 89 Lemieux, Ferraro and Carbonneau. Got Keith on D that increases each month by one more overall and got Gordie Howe up to 93 now with collectibles. So if you play a lot, it can be done. I'm not going to complain, it's just a game anyway, but it motivates me though I am tempted to spend money and have spent about $40 on packs and got really just one or two decent players out of it which makes me not want to spend any more. I mostly just play SB so I'm almost up to 600 games played in that mode this season. BTW I'm 67.
Ground it out to get the top reward in the current HUT Rush and I'm not feeling the value when the best choice in the NHL Players Choice Pack was an 83 Matt Dumba.
I mean...come on, EA...they're untradeable cards. You could loosen up the purse strings for a whole 10 seconds every now and again.
