The bug, glitch, or virus whatever this thing is hit my town last night. A nice pie man task is staring me in the face. Can't recycle. Fully upgraded IRS gives a tap radius of 2 buildings. Have to manually find completed characters, tapping their icon does nothing.

Also he put in a ticket last night and checked this morning, his ticket had been closed with no communication from EA or resolution offered. (mizark is my husband)

Thats one way to solve the issue, I suppose. Another fine example of great customer service from our friends at EA.
Look on the bright side, at least they didnt tell him to post here
I do not accept unsolicited friend requests! PM me and say hi first.
I have this issue too for the past few months. Level 149 player. Do not want to rollback and lose my progress but it is frustrating to play with the bug.

By the way, Im sorry you guys have to deal with this crap. I should have said that sooner. Im a little short here these days with people here asking for help which is right in front of them if they would bother to read before they post (not you, other threads)
Keep us posted on how he makes out. Sorry for the rant

No worries. My game is (so far) fine but his is nearly impossible to play. He's rather frustrated to put it mildly.
I don't really understand te folks who don't agree to a rollback and then hope for some magic to happen, allowing them to keep their progress and get a fix. It's very unlikely to happen. A rollback is apparently the only way to ensure that you won't lose anything previously earned unless they are actually applying a reliable fix against this corruption from happening in the first place - which they've been telling folks for almost a year now is "right around the corner". However, even with such a fix, I'd be surprised if they are going to be able to repair already corrupted games.
Therefore, stop playing when your game is hit and act quickly to get a rollback with minimum loss.

Doesn't really help when when the following morning, the bug comes back after a rollback though. I'd rather wait for a fix than log 100's of tickets with EA's support team.

I hear you and would be equally annoyed if it happens to my game again. But the broken game isn't really playable anymore, let alone enjoyable, and suffering from missing previously earned items. It just doesn't make sense to keep it. Therefore, rolling back again is the only actual solution. I'll ask for it without thinking twice if I'm struck again. If it means losing a limited (and predictable) amount of progress in the current event and a handful of donuts from Find Maggie or a XP level-up, so be it.
Even for premium purchases which are lost during a rollback (due to the purchase happening between the save point that's used for the rollback and the time of corruption) the game should also have the donuts for this purchase back, so the item can be bought again. Actual loss would just be parts of the questline which were already completed.
Like I wrote before, stop playing and call EA for a rollback immediately when hit and you'll lose very limited progress when the time window is as narrow as possible.
If you decide to wait it out, you're in for tedious gameplay, unsolved closed tickets and in the end a painful rollback might still be necessary, causing lots of lost progress. Your decision. But I definitely know what I prefer.

I do see your point, but my last rollback gave me a half-day of full functionality. I've resigned myself to a crappy experience and faint hope that this will become important enough for EA to spend significant development resources on it.
I think it's obvious that they're not doing that; this is almost certainly a server-side issue, and is almost certainly reproducible, as there are player data files like mine and iSkillz2010's that are repeatedly affected. If they were serious, they would just keep adding instrumentation until they figured out how the data corruption is occurring.
Apologies if someone has already suggested this, but might we consider putting up bad reviews of the app? I've found that, on a smaller scale, companies take reviews very seriously. We may not be able to change the star rating all that much, but anyone that looks at recent reviews would be warned that they could find themselves with a crippled game and lost progress after pouring hundreds of hours into it.
So, since my game broke with the 2nd login after just 1 hour after it was successfully rolled back, I called EA again on the phone.
This EA rep was sincerely helpful. He asked since my case has a 9 month running history of the progression of this issue, if I could spend some time with him as he loops in multiple departments to look at me case as a means of helping everyone with a general fix.
After I explained details of the history of this glitch (including how this has grown to more players with each update since the Time Event last year in June), and how my game was actually fixed, he put me on hold for about 10 minutes as he talked with another tech department.
He came back asked a few more details, and put me on hold for another 15 minutes as he looped in the higher management levels to look at my case that actually showed a proven fix.
He came back and said he is trying to get in contact with the development rep that actually figured out the real fix and is trying to get her and the development team and the upper management levels to talk together to apply this fix for not only my game that is now broken for the 7th time in 9 months....but for everyone.
So after about an hour on the phone.......He did say that the upper management team said that they are getting really close for a public update release fix and hopes this insight into how my game was fixed will help finalize their update for release. He did say that even though there is not an ETA for the release he said that he had collaborated confirmation from both the development team and the upper management that is is coming very soon. When I said that I have heard that for 9 months, he said that each time that is noted in my account by an EA rep there are no notes from the development about this but this time he has this from their team.
He did say that since they are so close to a fix release that rolling back a game right now could actually hinder the benefits of what the upcoming fix would address.
So....can't say anything for sure, but he did (for a nice change) really take the time and was drawing in 3 different departments together (the original EA developer that actually found a fix for my broken game / development team / upper management team) to get a final fix.
I got an update today. When I get confirmation the proposed update is released, I will see if has helped anyone here.......
My main concern right now is with the Character button in the top left not functioning. Our studio team have been made aware of the various issues occurring and I do believe a patch will be going live later on this week so for now lets wait until this patch gets releases and see where we go from here.
I look forward to hearing from you later in the week with an update and if you are happy that most of the issues have been resolved. I will look into granting you a substantial amount of donuts as a one time gesture to thank you for your patience.
Good news, so judging from the above, there is no need to rollback and once the variables are corrected, players should be able to continue without losing any progress?

According to info posted in the relevant General Discussion threads the 27 March patch appears to have fixed neither of the two major bugs currently affected the game, the “character button” and the “museum freeze” bugs.

Don't think the actual bug fix is out yet, I think today's update was a general one.
I am currently having this issue and had it two weeks ago. They rolled my account back 24 hours last time because I contacted as soon as I saw it happen. I lost all progress over that last 24 hours. I had it happen again yesterday and contacted support about it. Like the last time they called me within a few minutes but unlike last time they did not offer to roll anything back. The rep stated that this is only happening to Android platform users and that they have established a team to resolve the issue. I was also told that I would receive an email from said team. Almost 24 hours since I was told there was a team and still no email. I have since disconnected my EA account game and started a new game. All functions work as normal, at least the ones available at the beginning. If this has happened to anyone using another platform then contact EA support and make sure they know this is the issue so that they know and can look back at individual accounts.
half an hour on the phone and no rollback, no rollback, no rollback, document what is missing and they will try to fix it. I may not have time to do all of that for a game and I have no idea how that would fix the character icon not working.

Some players have said it works for them. So what have you got to lose?
