  • Good news, so judging from the above, there is no need to rollback and once the variables are corrected, players should be able to continue without losing any progress?

I wouldn't hold your breath.....I will believe it when I see it.....but yes, that is the idea.
  • I do see your point, but my last rollback gave me a half-day of full functionality. I've resigned myself to a crappy experience and faint hope that this will become important enough for EA to spend significant development resources on it.

I personally will quit playing if I can't get a rollback to have the full game experience. It isn't worth my time and pain from the crippled experience. And, in the end, not worth my money. I'm not going to spend any further money on this game until the consensus is that the corruption issue has been fixed. I've spent way too much already over the course of the past 5 years ($300+ roughly estimated), anyway, but this wacky state certainly isn't something I'm going to invest in.
  • Apologies if someone has already suggested this, but might we consider putting up bad reviews of the app? I've found that, on a smaller scale, companies take reviews very seriously. We may not be able to change the star rating all that much, but anyone that looks at recent reviews would be warned that they could find themselves with a crippled game and lost progress after pouring hundreds of hours into it.

Good suggestion. I've edited my 5* review to 1* with the original good review included and complaint about the ongoing and still unsolved rollback issue added.

I did the same, and really ripped them a new one. After reading about 20 other reviews, it seems eberyone is rather unhappy with them at the moment

I am also not going to be spending any more money on the game for any of my three Springfields not just the one affected.
  • @bindertch253 and @Lifewoos have either of you tried anything from this thread?

    https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/217963/possible-solution-for-freezing-problem-with-museum

Some players have said it works for them. So what have you got to lose?

I haven't but since that seems to need the character icon to work to take you to the character which is not working, if I read it correctly, I don't know if it would help but I will give it a go.
  • Let's keep it up, TONS of 1 star reviews, all pointing to his problem!
  • I also havd experienced all these bugs, this must be a server issue as i pulled my 7" tab 4 and it had the same bugs. Funny my husbands account is fine
  • Mine had partial fixes, like the tap radius wasn't working but the character locator was; however this morning, it reverted back to where nothing works and EA said they womt do anything at this time and just closed the case.
  • So, since my game broke with the 2nd login after just 1 hour after it was successfully rolled back, I called EA again on the phone.

This EA rep was sincerely helpful. He asked since my case has a 9 month running history of the progression of this issue, if I could spend some time with him as he loops in multiple departments to look at me case as a means of helping everyone with a general fix.

One reason for this is because my game is one of the RARE instances when an EA rep actually figured what was broken in the game (which was due to bugged variables) and actually did a REAL fix (corrected all the wrong variables) ( https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/comment/1889528/#Comment_1889528 ).

After I explained details of the history of this glitch (including how this has grown to more players with each update since the Time Event last year in June), and how my game was actually fixed, he put me on hold for about 10 minutes as he talked with another tech department.

He came back asked a few more details, and put me on hold for another 15 minutes as he looped in the higher management levels to look at my case that actually showed a proven fix.

He came back and said he is trying to get in contact with the development rep that actually figured out the real fix and is trying to get her and the development team and the upper management levels to talk together to apply this fix for not only my game that is now broken for the 7th time in 9 months....but for everyone.

So after about an hour on the phone.......He did say that the upper management team said that they are getting really close for a public update release fix and hopes this insight into how my game was fixed will help finalize their update for release. He did say that even though there is not an ETA for the release he said that he had collaborated confirmation from both the development team and the upper management that is is coming very soon. When I said that I have heard that for 9 months, he said that each time that is noted in my account by an EA rep there are no notes from the development about this but this time he has this from their team.

He did say that since they are so close to a fix release that rolling back a game right now could actually hinder the benefits of what the upcoming fix would address.

So....can't say anything for sure, but he did (for a nice change) really take the time and was drawing in 3 different departments together (the original EA developer that actually found a fix for my broken game / development team / upper management team) to get a final fix.

I got an update today. When I get confirmation the proposed update is released, I will see if has helped anyone here.......
My main concern right now is with the Character button in the top left not functioning. Our studio team have been made aware of the various issues occurring and I do believe a patch will be going live later on this week so for now lets wait until this patch gets releases and see where we go from here.

I look forward to hearing from you later in the week with an update and if you are happy that most of the issues have been resolved. I will look into granting you a substantial amount of donuts as a one time gesture to thank you for your patience.

Today the update was released.....and it did nothing to fix anything with my game. All items are still broken.

Did this update fix anyone else?

  • It didn't fix it for me. Nothing changed.

The update was released today and did not fix anything for my game.

Well....I got confirmation from EA that the fix today was NOT for this glitch. Here is what was shared from EA.....
The patch today after researching was to fix an issue regarding the museum quest to crash.

The difficult task the studio have is that the idle character button is not effecting every player. (myself included) so they are struggling to determine what and how they can fix this when it is not a general across the board issue.

My consensus is they will ask us to offer a templated land to users affected if this continues XXXXXXX.

As discussed, the amount of items you receive is quite staggering. The downside is you need to start with a Level 60 empty land but if you are creative then you have hundreds and hundreds of items waiting for you to place on your new land.

Here was my feedback to EA.........
Thank for the follow up…… Here is some feedback that might help with fixing (or finding the underlying cause):
    1. AS noted in this trouble ticket, XXXXX (EA Rep) on Jan 24th found AND FIXED the issue with my broken game, that being “bugged variables”. Once XXXXX corrected the bugged variables everything worked in the game without any loss of progress. This of course was fixing the result of the problem, not finding the initial issue that original caused the bugged variables.

Has the develop team been in contact with XXXXX and worked with XXXXX to duplicate the fix XXXXX found on a larger scale?

So if an update can validate what the correct variables should be then do nothing to the unbroken game, but if it sees any variables are “bugged” then correct them. That would be an approach to fix broken games while not effecting unbroken games. This verification or fixing bugged variables could be even limited to the limited items affected by this glitch, namely Character Button / IRS Building Tapping Radius / Rail Yard broken prize cycle / Springfield Heights Unlocked characters / Minigames present from previous events from the Time Travel event to today.

Even if this fix was not launched globally, it could be a fix that could be applied by EA tech support to effected games to search for and corrected all invalid or “bugged” variables when a player reports a broken game.
    2. This was introduced by EA during the Time Travel / 4th of July Event last year (2017). What is difference in the code prior to this event to the update that can affect the variables in the game? This is the key point where this bug was introduced. And from that time on each update this bug is expanded to more and more players. So the answer is in the pre event code last year (or the difference between pre Time Travel / 4th of July event and after the event launched).
    3. As far as accepting a template town is all on the side of the player paying the price due to a bug EA introduced. This might be advantageous to a new player without much, but for those of us who have been playing for 4-5 years and spent hundreds of dollars over that time…..asking them to give everything up is not a solution. If EA was smart they would have included a backend inventory management tool which would make is easy to export a list of items in a town, apply the template town, then import the list of items exported from the original game. It is a matter of in game database management and if EA had any foresight would have been fairly easy to implement. I can handle having to redesign everything, but asking to give up 4 or 5 years of items paid for with hundreds of dollars of real world cash and countless hours of playing is not something any company could ask from any customer in good conscience.

Could you share these insights with the development team and the upper manager team and share with me their feedback? Or if they have any further questions I am more than willing to help.

  • Hobbes - Let us know IF they say anything back to this! They told me this morning (after I get a hit again) that they are having trouble fixing this issue. The first time they fixed my "bugged variables" too, but refused to do it this time and closed all but one of my cases this morning. They refused to do anything since nothing has worked before and simply closed the open cases I had.

    Well that sucks.

This is rather disconcerting, not just for the users currently affected, but in a sense for the longer-term viability of the game. Think about it. On the one hand, the developers have not yet identified the cause of this bug. It has been around for the better part of a year and they still haven’t modified the code so as to prevent its appearance. It seems as though with every event we see another batch of users afflicted with this curse.

And on the hand it’s becoming more and more clear that they don’t even know how to permanently fix it.

So what’s the remedy for those who are affected now and who will be affected in the future? Template towns? As a long-time player, if that were the only option placed in front of me, I would quit the game. I suspect many would do the same. I hate to sound like an alarmist, but if EA doesn’t somehow get a handle on this problem, I can envision them at some point just throwing up their hands and walking away from the game.
  • What the deuce?? App update and in-game update and still not fixed??
Im sorry to have to say this, but are the comments about ea being helpful and fixing the serveside issues bogus and made by ea staff?
