Upgrading Android phone, what will happen to my town?

I've heard that Android devices use the phones unique hardware id to 'login' as opposed to a (more sensible) gmail account or email addy, and as I don't fancy rooting my S4 and hacking the id, am I out of luck?

Is there any news on Android getting Origin login?

There is a possibility that when the Whacking Day update comes, it will include Origin for Android.

The data isn't on your device it is on the EA servers, the way it is retrieved is by using the device's ID

So technically ea is able to move my city to another device or reload it if it's lost...

Well, EA wont do that.... But! the thread that is linked above tells you how to do it yourself.

I would recomend reading that to se if there is anything you can do to make sure that your game is backed up.

It's a shame that there appears to be no way of swapping device id's without rooting the new phone.
I've managed to get the current phones id, but would EA be willing to swap the id for me? I doubt it very much.

I'm really hoping that the update (if and when it comes) will include Origin for Android, we always seem to get the rough end of the stick with things like these

iOS players went through a load of crap early on in this game too, so don't think it's just Android. EA just pushes things through and fixes on the fly, it seems.
