I might see where they are coming from. Imagine how much data it could use, like if you are on 3g/4g or something. Ngl some of you sound really stuck up making this all about you when it's about game play for everyone. I had problems with crash when people had huge towns, and I'm sure other people did too. I could not imagine trying to load some of your towns while on 3G because it would probably push me over my data limit.
Seriously, EA! The 3k limit REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SUCKS!!! I mean SERIOUSLY SUCKS! I've been looking forward to Whacking Day or a month, and what do you do? You SCREW US! This is like getting UNDERWEAR for Christmas! It's like getting an Apple for Tricks or Treats.
The person who suggested the 3k limit DESERVES TO BE FIRED even more than the person who chose the shade of green for the Paddy's Day green water.
I can see that fateful day... EA folks sitting in a conference room about two months ago. A developer says "...but remember Halloween? All those eggs and TB added a huge number of items to towns and overloaded the servers. Add to that all new android users and we're gonna HAMMER Origin". Marketing says "we gotta have origin for android! Corporate increased our revenue expectations by 30% for the second quarter!" The operations guy says they need another 50 servers to handle the load. The finance guy says "come on, you know more 50 servers weren't budgeted for this year!" Then it happens... Some marketing dweeb suggests a limit on the number of items... And that's how it all started
This is **** ****, why do we put up with this nonsense? failure after failure after failure... EA i am sick of your lack of creativity. Instead of making this game better you just go and ruin it by taking the fun out of the game.
If we complain enough, EA will be forced to change it, They have to make us happy, And this is *, a 3k limit? **** even if i get to 2999 its not F-ing enough i wud have to get to 2900 then start buying items from wacking day..
EDIT: to ensure stability... what **** it's just to stop house farming so we can't get donuts that way...
False. It's stability issues. That house farmers are most likely to see ths is a side effect. It's unfortunate to have a limit (curious how close I am), but it's nice knowing they may have lowered the risk of the game crashing when trying to visit friends.
EDIT: Personally haven't hit the limit (don't know how close). And before I fly into a panic I'd be curious as to what a 3000 item city looks like.
I had to remove a ton of decorations because of this, which is ridiculous, when it is obvious that they introduced this restriction for house farming. It was even a Freudian slip since the warning title is, "too many buildings" yet the message includes decorations. Did anyone else catch that?
I am not complaining that EA does updates, I am happy about it and appreciative, but this limitation on decorations is absolutely ridiculous. I had 3167, and had to spend an hour removing friggin decorations. I still have two spaces of tiles left on the bottom portion of my town, which means I am ultimately going to have to remove even more.
I hope that they either increase that limitation or remove the decorations from the limitation. I understand the limitation of the farming of housing, as that reasonably would place a burden on their servers, but decorations? That is a cover up in my opinion so it does not seem to the farmers that they are being singled out.
Before I get hate responses, I have nothing against farmers, they are smart for farming gold. I am too * retentive to stack houses, the look of it would drive me nuts. Limiting decorations is absolutely ridiculous.
They have a monopoly on licensing. They are a giant corporate cow. They won worst company again this year and deserve the tittle. Thanks so much EA for buying so many licences to game genres I typically love and destroying them.
This game has been broken from the start. It is by a country mile the most broken, glitchy, temperamental, connection problem pile of steaming poo ever offered up to me in 20 plus years of gaming.
I'm disgusted with myself for sticking with this game for so long and giving EA my money. Shame on me.
Well thanks for nothing EA, give out of one hand take with the other. How am I to choose what to store it's impossible to pick. My I only option is to store all street lamps, stop signs, barricades and if it comes to it all hidden premium items. O how you frustrate me EA! Why was this evan nessaceary I haven't had any crashing problems that made it impossible to play. If I wanted my game stable I would store decorations on my own accord. Then there's the time put in to my SF only now to have to tear it down. Sort your $|-|!7 out EA!

"Paranoia paranoia everybody's coming to get me..."
It's almost as if obsessive house farmers were causing service issues that affected all of us. You know, those threads we always see popping up complaining about an inability to connect and play?
But hey, it's not like my game hasn't crashed (or lagged like crazy) in a town utilizing a large amount of 3D. Like I said, before we fly into the usual panic, I'd be interested in seeing what kinds of cities are running into the limit. 3000 seems like a lot.
PS Harmonix also had to set a 3000 song limit in Rock Band, as anything beyond that caused severe lag and loading issues. Processing power isn't infinite you know.

I dont know how u play your game but 3000 is nothing and is easily passed when you have all the land and buildings.
I will not have my creativity capped. I'm a silly principle driven fool. Lol I almost quit during the Xmas update when I had to store some fences and hedges to maintain stability.

Agreed. I don't have all the land and only consider my town moderately detailed and im at 3250. I'm guessing there are a lot of people who have close to 10k items in theirs.
Around 5k is the most I've seen on here. Anyone have more?
WHAT A JOKE!!!!! Countless hours in fine tuning my town to an artform, huge parklands with walkways, 3d sunken areas the list goes on and NOW I HAVE TO GET RID OF ALMOST 1/3 OF MY TOWN!!!! WTFWTFWTF!!!
All the money and time in perfecting my town and now the greedy money grabbers at EA in an attempt for global player multi platform domination they destroy all of us long term players efforts!
This game is making more money for EA than anything else and you are screwing with the people who made the game what it is!!!!!
IS THIS EA'S IDEA OF AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE 10 DAYS LATE???????
My town was decorated, street signs. Lights at every corner and of course an insurmountable count of tree hugging decorations. I mishit the number, I had to remove 467 decorations, not 167. I of course removed blinded decorations to start, but that didn't even scratch the surface of that over count. My town seems a lot more bare than it did before.
They should have a limit for houses and decorations offering a significant number higher for decorations. As I said, I still have two tiles worth of space all across the bottom of the town before it is full. That is going to make my town look quite bare at the end of this if they do not increase the number or separate decorations from the restrictions.
It is ridiculous. The stability in my town is no different than before, it still lags when scrolling and items still disappear in game requiring me to scroll across town and back for them to reappear. Waste of restriction as far as the decorations go if you ask me.
If it weren't for the amount of money I have already spent in this game, I would probably follow the others in the decision to quit playing. It wasn't a matter of removing the 467 items, it was removing 600+ items to make sure I have room to populate the remaining portions of my yet unopened town. As I said, I still have two tiles at the bottom all across the entire landscape to still open up for more buildings.
I will not have my creativity capped. I'm a silly principle driven fool. Lol I almost quit during the Xmas update when I had to store some fences and hedges to maintain stability.
Put away near 50% of my town? No just no.
I see 3D, large amounts of art....above and beyond what is likely the "average city".
It sucks, but at the same time...if the trade off is a reduction in server issues and overall better stability I'm pretty sure that's more important to the general user base.
I dont know how u play your game but 3000 is nothing and is easily passed when you have all the land and buildings.
I have all fm the buildings except the Swanky Fish and all but I believe the outer most 2 rows of land to the east and south. I've also gt about a 35% bonus and a 4.5 conformity rating with 2.3 million bucks and 12 donuts to spare.
I have no idea how close I am to the limit, and I suppose only time will tell. But like I keep saying, if the trade off is fewer server issues and better stability for visiting towns (which is key during whacking day) I'll take it.
I know this is probably a stupid question, but after reading 5 pages of posts about a limit on decorations (and agreeing with everyone by the way) how do you know if you are over your limit? Do I have to wait for Homer &Lisa to finish their tasks before I find out?
I'm so saddened that all those beautiful, imaginative, inspiring towns will all have to be changed.
It really stinks to think that being creative and really embellishing our towns to share with others here, ( which has been one of the biggest parts of the game) has come to an end..
If they wanted to drive away their core user base.. this was a step in the right direction..
I am so disgusted with the new imposed limit! I have spent countless hours designing my town and creating 3D buildings. I have to reduce my town by 2/3rds! I have been at it for several hours and I still have 1397 to go. I notice if I try to bring an item out of storage it won't let me, but it also tells me how many more items I am still over. EA should have upgraded their servers with all the money they made off of us instead of making us destroy our towns!
The irony is they want us to reduce the size of our town, but also to buy more premium items!
I still have close to a boat load (wish I would have waited) in my account or I would probally quit playing for awhile. I could have used that Itunes card on a new game but I liked having doughnuts in my account.
