All of the free items are quite useful. But they have made the cool things premium. Which I find quite annoying. As they know we want the premium stuff. It's not the fact that they are premium items. It's that they are ridiculously overpriced. Who have 200 doughnuts for a volcano lair? Not me.
Everyone should see this. I really wish there were more useful information and posts on here rather than all the complaining about "donuts". It is a game. It is a free to purchase app without advertisements. It receives constant attention from its developers. If you don't want to spend real money, fine, but no one cares about your character flaws of jealousy, impatience and greed. People that work on the game need to make a profit somehow.
With every game I play, there's always those people with the entitlement mentality and think everything should be free. I guess a lot of people don't know basic economics: a company's product has to generate revenue to continue making the product.

I'd also like to point out that you get one FREE Premium Item Every Week!
My Free Premiums Thus Far:
Hans Moleman
Homer's Hammock
Burning Bush
Picket Fence
Bench with Towel
Flower Planter
You can play the game as slowly & creatively as you want. I personally don't want gigantic volcanos or signs taking up all my space because that's not the type of landscape I'm creating. You can have lots of fun playing the game without the premium items. You don't have to do exactly what the game tells you to do, like a trained monkey.

No you don't. Most people do not get premium items in the mystery boxes. I have only gotten the lemon tree and a white fence. Everything else has been normal things you can buy in game. You will find most people are more common with what I get than what you have.
Hopefully this thread will continue to get bumped, so people can see & the complaining & whining will be kept to a minimum. I will continue to update this thread as new content gets released.
And no not all the premium items are a must have. You pretty much get all the most important characters & buildings for free.
Also you guys should be a bit more grateful. Most devs of freemium games release more premium stuff than they do free stuff. Be happy that the EA devs of Tapped Out are taking a different route & releasing more free stuff & keeping the premium stuff at a minimum. Which can probably explain why they are priced so highly. Instead of releasing a bunch of premium items at moderate prices, which will tick people Off even more. They only release a few at a time, but charge high to make enough profit to keep the game going & keep releasing New content for us

The point counterpoint argument of the mystery box giving a premium item and no, it also gives normal is fair, but the point is that IT DOES give premium items. Granted from that I only got the Lemon Tree and a picket fence, but whatever, so be it, it is free. I think overall this post makes good sense that they are giving a bunch more away for free than many other games.
And the point that all the cool items are the ones that cost so much, well, erm, duh...do you think they are going to put up the lame items and ask people to pay for them? What kind of sense does that make, the developers are not working for free, to keep this product alive they do have to make a profit. And typing this a lot of the premium items are not that great, the Piece o Crap Car, the trees, but they are there.
The only complaint I have is the stability of the game and EA being able to keep up with server demand. Beyond that make whatever you want of this game, and if it annoys you that much don't play. I personally ponied up and paid for donuts, I have enjoyed the extra characters, but I am also greedy and hate waiting, so eh.

Yeah, I haven't gotten anything worthwhile from the boxes either. I've been playing for a couple months.
No big deal though. I knew what I as getting into when I started this game in terms of premium content. I may buy some down the line, we'll see. Until then, I'll be happy with all of the free stuff that's available, which is more than enough to make this a fun game.
My biggest complaint isnt the premium stuff, it's the lack of customer service combined with the many technical issues that have plagued the game since I started. Seems like many of those tech issues are getting sorted out though, so for that, I'm thankful. Hopefully it will continue to improve, and at some point, I'll feel justified on spending real money on it.
Some people on this board are such whiners and this topic is to show all the complainers that whine about not being able to get xyz character or building. They give away so much stuff for free that you don't have to spend any money. The free stuff outweighs the paid stuff. If EA makes no money whatsoever on this game, then it's bye bye game. Simple as that. How do you expect a game company to keep developing content for the game, yet not get paid for it. Would you work for free? I doubt that. Lets take a look at just how evil and unfair EA & the devs of Tapped Out are...

So tell me again how EA is unfair?
You're a re *...
How is it unfair? How much do you pay for a brand new "normal" game? $50? $60? How much do you have to pay here to get all the "premium" aka missing stuff in this game?
F2p games are a scam, simple as that, and only idiots pay...
I understand its game and its up to me wether I want to pay for premium items....only thing upsetting is paying for premium items and they don't do what they're suppose to
When you think about it the premium items are cool but it is more the bugs in the game that screws the things up. But still it is a good list to show what you really get

Games may be $60, but you're also forgetting about stuff called DLC. Games like Call of Duty cost $60, $80 for Hardened edition or Prestige for $150. Then all the DLC cost roughly $50. And if you think about it, this is a yearly thing for all those people who play.
You say F2P games are a scam. So do you care to elaborate how this game is a scam? Because I would seriously love to hear it.
I think the value of the donuts could be re-thought somewhat as some things seem out of whack, but the general philosophy you outline is correct and it works. It's perfectly possible to play this game endlessly, have loads of fun and build a great town without spending a penny or seeing any ads. I personally think they'd sell more donuts if they made them a little cheaper or re-worked their value in the game r.e. certain items, but as it is it works pretty well. At least they make the game of such a high quality that it's actually worth considering giving them your money.
There are two things that I'd like them to concentrate on: number one is stability and reliability of the game. Not just crashing and speed (which is just a minor annoyance), but the danger of losing one's town entirely, which should never be a factor. It's not happened to me, but I'd be devastated if it did. They really should implement a backup system to prevent this ever happening.
The second is just to keep releasing updates, more content, more characters, buildings and items, more seasonal specials that sort of thing. I'm sure they will, there's plenty of room for improvement across the board. I'd like them to develop the social side of it a little more too; it would be nice to be able to 'vote up' or 'like' other people's towns for instance or leave them notes or messages or have a more detailed notifications centre.
Firstly, if people bought donuts for the higher price then they would be annoyed if they were lowered, especially if you bought a lot
Secondly, premium items will become more found and less "rare" or found throughout the towns which will then again annoy the people who bought it for a higher price.

...and we call them "Democrats".
ALL OF YOU KIDS READ THIS, only then can you start complaining about "real" problems, not overpricing because you can't get them.
