The people it (likely) hurts the most are those who actually pay for donuts, not the freemium users who have only invested time into the game. I am so excited to get the new Whacking Day stuff but I was told I had about 4800 items so I've spent all morning trying to get rid of around 1800 just so I'd have enough free space to play, which is tedious to say the least (not to mention totally destructive to my creations). F-U-N...
Since I'm a sucker, though, I wouldn't mind paying a sort of subcription fee each month/year which entitled me to unlimited items and additional land.
I'd say it's probably more like a ram management issue, having all items loaded into memory at the same time, going in and out of other towns The server would require no limitations as all that is saving is an index number and x y position of each item so the data would be tiny.,

Thanks for the reply, does ram only affect the user and not related to server issues? What I mean is, do our towns affect EA's ram management (on their servers) in a negative way somehow.
If there is any kind of justification on why EA did this, I would like to hear it. As far as I can figure so far, limitations would only 'benefit' the user's own stability and lag issues, and doesn't really impact on the EA servers.
I'm pretty sure this is just EA's beginning to start charging "premium memberships", which will give you unlimited items, more land, and exclusive premium items.
Are you kidding? All people do is complain about stability. The game is down multiple times a month. Origin is down multiple times a month. People can't get into their games at all, sometimes for weeks. People's accounts are reset. If limiting towns to 3000 items helps more people play, I am all for it.
EA's servers run this game. Our games are on their servers. So, everything we do directly affects their servers. If the developers feel their game cannot handle all of the towns and items within, changes are made. Now, I firmly believe this should fall on EA's shoulders to fix their hardware and or code, but if it fixes this in the short term it isn't a big deal.

The ram issues will be on the end users device, The servers are probably not even breaking a sweat saving and loading user profiles (Although this is Origin, so you never know )

The games are saved and loaded from their servers, so yes, the servers are bearing the brunt of the data going back and forth. Seriously now.

If you can explain how decorations and buildings relate to overall stability, such as the game being down (I have not experienced this myself) or any other issues.. I am willing to listen! I think we all are!
We just want an explanation as to WHY. I have seen no plausible reason why EA has implemented this, so far. If you can enlighten us how the limitations help, please do!
I don't know how EA's servers are set up, so I can't comment on that. But, if you have a lot of data(which each town will take up on their servers) going back and forth as you play it can cause many issues. Synchronizing with their servers for each change made, each item, can cause traffic which can cause lag and stability issues. I honestly think Origin is the main problem since it seems to fail on most of their games. Even Sim City is failing out of the gate. Either EA has poor hardware management or a failed online system.
At work, we have many applications used over many servers. If too many people are using something at once and the hardware is not up to par, it cause problems. EA's infrastructure is not up to par.
They did enact it at a time when there was going to be an event with snakes running around. It is possible that they found with testing that they needed to limit the items for the event to prevent widespread crashes.
Wasn't the best implementation but it was probably needed.

I'd be surprised if the save data for any of our towns is larger than 50kb, I still maintain the servers are fine it's the ios device's ram.
Whether we like it or not, I am sure EA tested this theory of limiting before rolling it out. If they saw a notable difference in performance, it had to be done. They should have at least told their players first, however. There are a lot of long time players who have large towns. They shouldn't have to suffer due to hardware limitations.

I feel you. I think its good that they have made this decision if we get better stability. Sucks for some people ofcourse but, rather this then loosing my town.
edit: and 3k stuff in your town is still alot. Im not affected by this since I got alot of water surrounding my town, but its still alot. But I dont think we will get more land after this change though, or who knows

Well at the least, if the limitations have only been implemented for whacking day you'd think they would tell us that.
I suppose we can estimate so far, no one knows the inner workings of the EA servers. Or of why they put the limitations on.
Will they last post update? I think yes, until any further notice. If it was only for whacking day, surely they would love to tell us that - that the game will return to normal after May 9th.
And at jasonicus321, I really don't think stability and lag issues were ever a prevalent ongoing problem with this game. During a non update period, the forums tend to be dead.
If stability and lag were such big issues, there would have been countless threads about it.
I have seen virtually no threads complaining of stability issues, pretty much ever. Just the common knowledge problem that too many decorations may cause some laginess.. but no one really seemed to care too much?
So my original point still stands.. why EA? We need a detailed explanation!
I feel you. I think its good that they have made this decision if we get better stability.
See this is what I'm talking about, I don't think people actually HAD issues with stability.
Can we be less vague when discussing this also, like what issues did you personally encounter that you think limiting decoration count has fixed?
I think these 'stability issues' are non existent, or at least undefined :?
These forums, and the consensus of users weren't complaining about stability virtually at ALL until this update has come to limit us in the name of improved stability?
And now that we have an in game message telling us we have new limitations in our game to benefit us for more stability, we find people coming out and saying "Yeah more stability woo! We needed this!" etc..
I just didn't see the issue before hand. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
The stability issues is not about lag, its about people losing their towns
I don't see any correlation between people losing their towns, and people having more than 3000 decorations per town?
That just seems to be linking random problems together. Like milk causes cancer or something.
Let's not buy into this false sense of increased stability without a proven link between say, how more decorations can blow towns up. Or whatever else!
Glad the limit is in place. Now I don't have to look at all the 3d * people rave about. It looks tacky and just cause more issues so we are * better off with the limit so towns dont get clogged up with *.

If there's a limit to the amount shown (in your town), there may be a limit to the storage box...
