RIP Dark Halloween Rivers?

Prev1
Is it just my game or there are no dark rivers and clouds' shadows this time? Without them black screen vignette looks strange. It doesn't match a nice peaceful autumn environment at all IMHO.

Although I like the event so far, I miss those visual mood effects.
Happy Halloween tappers.

PS: even no flying leaves.

  • No, we're not getting it this year apparently. It was my favourite thing, closely followed by the kids trick or treating, which is also gone. I agree, it doesn't look Halloween-y at all and is the main reason I can't get into THOH this year.
  • I miss them already.
I NUKED my main town. >:)
  • I was hoping this was temporary...

The dark edges on screen are already doing my head in on an S7 edge. :/

This gets said every year and then the complaints come in. :joy:

  • I was a little bummed about the rivers but it is what it is.
  • I actually didn't even notice until you brought it up. The only thing I see is the fall colors on tree's....and ya your right....no leaves falling or clouds. Not sure why they got rid of them....

Don't increase the Item Limit? Then I don't play. Period.
  • I'm guessing this is why the screen edges stick out this year, someone said that it happens every year, but this is only my second one (or is it third, was Pagan one as well or not?..) so last year I would've been in awe of all the darkened rivers and swirling leaves... which I had actually forgotten about until I saw this thread.. and not noticed the black edging... plus I was using a tablet to play as well, which I broke... so using a small screen phone...

Erm... yeah..... so like, you know, whatever...
  • I don't understand that darkness on the edge of town :D:D:D ( or is that it?). It only makes my screen one size smaller.
  • The dark edges are annoying the >:) outa me...

I think I figured it out, bear with me, or skip to the end and I'll try to summarize it.

Three events (general) exist right? Mini events, tie in events, and Update Events.
    Wrong.
(Yes I know we have Gil deals, and other little things, just work with me)
Seasonal events occur on the dot each year, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, etc.
These holidays also tend to have Simpsons Episodes revolving around em.

    Here's the connection:
    Treehouse of Horror 2015
As you may remember, this had a Cthulhu like beast known as M'nthster (I think). The general event had the kids telling stories, etc.
However once you dissect it you realize most of the plot came from the episode:
    Halloween of Horror
From the adults "naughty" actions to the adults Costumes, as well as M'nthster himself, all were taken from the above episode. The rest of the content was either TSTO exclusive or taken from old Simpsons episodes (mainly THoH).

    Next is Winter 2016.
    Yes, I know, I know.
The Most Dangerous Game mini-event had a small tie in which made us believe that Xmas was coming next: Gnome in your Home....here's the kicker:
That item appears in an episode aired on December 11, 2016, according to the event files (thanks LP) Winter 2016 started on December 6, 2016.
It was wildly hated by many, however once again, an overwhelming amount of content came from the episode: The Nightmare After Krustmas
The same episode that has the Gnome in your Home.

This current event was based on Harry Potter as well as the Simpsons parody: Angelica Button. However it also features content from the Episode: The Serfsons. From The Peasant SVT, to Wizard Frink (spoilers), and Treestache, all those items came from the **** episode.
    Theory?
They took that info, and built an event around it with items, characters and buildings that have to do with it. If you have checked the spoilers or checked the in game character sets, you'll notice what will come next (including a dragon, not the one in the episode, but a dragon nonetheless).

LPN is right, EA must make the events in advance (possibly months in advance), however they must also have access to what Simpsons writers are creating. Something that doesn't surprise me, if you were a Futurama fan, you knew the rumors of the crossover episode, and probably saw a script with the Futurama main casts signatures all over it months in advance.

What I'm getting at is simple.
Yes EA is screwing up every now and then, but when outside of the Holiday based episode events, they tend to be spot on.
So unless Simpsons starts raising up their game and start writing and creating better content for the current and possible future, we will be stuck with these kinds of events.

    SUMMARY:
Holiday events are based on that years Holiday Simpsons Episode, or that years Simpsons episodes. EA most likely has access to certain new episodes in advance and they build holiday events around em. That's why this THOH was Potter related, That's why a couple years ago it was Cthulhu/ Adults acting "naughty", and that's why last years winter event was Pagan related.
  • I really like this event so far... although it doesn't feel like a Halloween one I must admit.
  • Am i the only one who doesnt find something to complain about with these events?
If theyre the same as last year, complain.
    If they're different, complain.
Cant we all be happy? This game just flat out rules!! I mean, what other game have you ever played continuously for years and years? It amazes me that anything, let alone a game keeps me interested.

Now if theres no snow come xmas, there will be hell to pay!! Lol

Please don't give them any ideas... I've only been playing a year and my first Christmas wasn't exactly the kind of Christmas I wanted, don't get me wrong, I played it, I liked it, but I'm more of a fairy lights, tinsel and modern day Christmassy type of guy and would like a bit more than a couple of Santa skins and a tiny Christmas section looking very out of place in my town along with a couple of random horror snowmen near a beach

Now that you mention it, i was a bit disappointed with last years holiday event. Twas not xmas, they went all politically correct and tried to please everyone. Im just like you in your description of a favorable XMAS event.
  • I missed christmas before the pagans and only got to play for tree days before. So I was not happy with the pagans at all, here's hoping for a better christmas this year. Althrough, given how this hallowen sucks, my hopes are lagging
  • I rarely gripe about events. Im happy to get new content and continue my quest to collect everything. I’m very disappointed this year. 2 days in and the quests are complete and I log in every 4 hours to send 4 ppl to capture 4 monsters and can’t do anything else until they are captured 15 gd times. Nothing scary. No fall season feeling. Very little new content. Yuck. Blah. I hate it so far, but, hopefully, it will get better.
