Apparently not on the old ones. I have a 1st gen one I got as a gift.
    It's as slow as Ralph.

This seems to be the case as I just tried to play the game and it said I needed to update to continue. So I tried, but got the iOS 5 required to continue message. I'm using my iPhone 4 to play. The weird thing is the iOS 5 version of the update has been on my update screen for awhile, even before the most recent update with Legs, Louie, and Fat Tony, and I was still able to play no problem. I even tried deleting the app to reinstall it, which was a mistake since I can't even redownload it now (iOS 5 required).

This blows me away as I just spent a good portion of my tax return on donuts to purchase the Whacking Day stuff and the few remaining premium items I needed, as well as buying money for land expansions.

I'm going to contact EA, and if that doesn't help I'm going to contact iTunes and get my money refunded. Very unprofessional (and downright dishonest and suspicious) to allow people to keep spending money on your game without warning them that many of them would no longer be able to play it.

What major leap forward did the game take that requires iOS 5?

Actually, I got my itouch updated from iOS 4 to iOS 6 by bringing it to the apple store. Although I lost all the data, I just reloaded it though the iCloud. :)

FYI, I I believe phasing out support for the first generation iPad had been discussed around the end of 2012 (when I first started playing). Sorry you missed the notice.

On the bright side, it's a good excuse to get a new iPad or android tablet. If money are tight, I recommend getting the Nexus 7.

I didn't realize that could be done. Will this work for my iPhone 4? And in terms of the icloud thing, I'll be able to redownload my data onto it? Also, does the update cost anything?

As long as you do it over Wifi it's free.... But unless you totally wipe your phone before you update you shouldn't lose anything... but it doesn't hurt to do a local backup through iTunes as well...

Btw, if you do upgrade iOS you loose all in-app purchases (besides games like this supports by a network like origin)

Ah, cheers! Appreciate the info. I'll drop by my gf or parents house tomorrow then and update it using their PC (don't have one myself, use my iPhone for Internet). That's encouraging, I was seriously miffed thinking iOS 5 and 6 would only work on iPhone 5 or later.

I'm disabled and housebound and was given the original iPad running OS 4.3 as a gift. I have no way to upgrade to iOS 5.0 and have invested a lot of my money into this game. As of this morning, I had a good sized balance of donuts in my Tapped Out game. Most games that upgrade to the new iOS still support 4.3; that is not the case with Tapped Out - you can't proceed with the game now. You can't open it, and you can't upgrade it. I have money in other games that I would also lose if I were able to upgrade. As I cannot do, as I said, I'm disabled, and also don't have the support for someone to come over and upgrade my iPad.

I am extremely disappointed about this change, it was not made aware to players (no, not all of us read the forum to learn about OS support, we just play the game). And I'm very, very upset about losing money, and the fact that this happened during whacking day, which I spent money on.

Unfortunalty, I'll have to try to get a refund from EA and Apple, which I'm sure will be next to impossible. I can't tell EA enough how disappointed I am that they were unable to continue to support 4.3 as I play a lot of games and the game companies I spend money on continue to be backwards compatible. And I'm really ticked off that my money has essentially been stolen from EA. Social gaming is my outlet, and now both my money and my level 28 Springfiled are gone.

Android is crap.... Android sucks!!!, lol you have an Android device, that's what most of you say right?.

    From the Google Play Store:

    REQUIRES ANDROID:
    2.3.3 and up

This is the same equivalence as iOS 4.x.x

I bit the bullet and purchased the 4th generation IPAD and sold my 1rst generation. Hated doing it but after the first harp of death I decided my OS was outdated.
