weird, I can get into my town fine, but when try to go visit neighbors, all 100 of mine are missing!

This usually happens when EA are ready for a shakeup with the game before the end of an event or to start one. (Whacking day is soon to end)
Network problems and all your neighbours suddenly go missing.

Hope it's going back soon... i still need 265 snakes 8) And without neighbours it's going to be very hard to get these snakes.

All my 100 friends were gone too but came back after logging in and out for about 3 or 4 times.
