Possible solutions for re-downloading (APPLE devices) + troubleshooting tips

There have been a large number of threads about the issue of the game re-downloading, especially since iOS11 was released. Tapped Out requires a lot of free space to run the game, here are a few possible solutions to avoid having the game re-download every time you play. All screenshots below are from my iPad.
FREE UP SPACE by deleting unused apps, unwanted photos, videos etc.
DISABLE THE OFFLOAD FEATURE when storage is low, the Offload feature removes apps, but keeps their documents and data on your device, but then it needs to be reinstalled every time. You can also choose to offload individual apps.
Go into settings, scroll down to General and look for ipad storage on the right side.

Tap on iPad storage - I have disabled offload apps.

If you scroll further down, you can choose which apps to individually offload. Here is tapped out as an example:

CLEAR HISTORY & WEBSITE DATA REGULARLY I do this about once a week. Go to settings> tap on Safari

Scroll down on the right side, then you can clear History and website data.

ALWAYS USE THE APP ICON to play tapped out, rather than via notifications. A small number of players have stated the game re-downloads if they go into the game via notifications.
CLOSE ALL OTHER APPS BEFORE PLAYING
UNINSTALL & REINSTALL - only do this if you have an EA ACCOUNT AND LOG INTO YOUR GAME. It is possible there may be a corrupt file. DO NOT tap to play whilst the game is downloading.
When logging into your town, warning messages appear:

Note: It is a good idea to always synchronise (by going to friends screen and back to your town) after every time you play, so that progress is saved.

    Posts from players that have fixed the problem:
    I had this issue in the past and contacted ea for support. I am certain they told me I needed 4 or 5 GB for the game to run smoothly.

    I had the exact issue after updating my Ipad, and I too was showing 2GB free (which I have come to learn IS low by some measures). Once I freed up space I have not had the problem since. I think it IS IOS 11 related as I believe that it may be a larger footprint for the OS, and I also believe that there were some file management utilities or tweaks done that may have affected those of us whose space was already taxed...If clearing up another few GB's does not solve the problem, then it is truly something else.

    It happened here with my iPad 4th gen. I synced my iPad, shut it down and freed up an additional 1-2 GB and it did the trick.

    It has been almost a week since I have had to redownload. I had about 2.7GB before and it still would seem to offload the game data. But then I deleted a bunch of pictures and now have about 4.3GB open. Did this late Thursday night, and have had no issues since. So it appears the iOS 11 just requires a lot of open space to operate properly. My game was practically unplayable, so I didn’t test it along the way while deleting pictures. Was to frustrated and just wanted it working again. So perhaps 4GB is not necessary, but that’s what I’m going to stick with for now.

    Hi all. I had a similar issue with my iPhone 5s (I do have iOS 11) and it turns out it’s because I had the automatically offload app option turned on. If you go into settings and then ‘iTunes & App store’ there’s an option to switch it off if you scroll down a little.

    Hi, I have the same problem on my phone where suddenly I have to log in while it seemingly downloads the whole game again. When this happens to me I have to free up some space on my phone, and the problem goes away. I hope this helps.

    ....Also ensure you have plenty of free storage. Even with offloading disabled, I had this issue with an iPad Mini with 3GB free storage. Now with free memory around 5GB the problem disappeared for me..... posted on Reddit October 2017.

    • Log out/Log back in
    • Restart device
    • Clear cache
    • Free up space (some Apple devices may require 4-5GB free space)
    • Hard close the game and restart
    • Load on another device
    • Try a different wifi/connection/internet/broadband
    • Accept or decline any pending friend requests
    • Change your password ( only use letters and numbers, no symbols )
    • If connected to EA/Origin: uninstall / reinstall game (Do NOT do this if you play anonymously)
    Synchronise your game often by visiting the friend's screen so your game progress is saved

    There are a few ways to try and fix this issue - several players have reported that the following has worked for this situation:
    • Wait for a period of time and then try again
    • Change your password only use letters and numbers, no symbols
    • If connected to EA/Origin: uninstall / reinstall game (Do NOT do this if you play anonymously)
    Also make sure you input your age correctly. This error may also occur if you input an age lower than the minimum for playing Tapped Out. (Age requirement may vary from one country to another).
    I had this problem about 6 months ago, when the password issue first started, and deleting and re installing fixed it for me

    How much free space do you have?

  • I am having the same problem...it is redownloading about two to three times a day at this point, and I always get the "your other device didn't save" message. I have 20GB free, I don't have the offload option on, I have tried to delete and reload the app...pretty much have tried every suggestion, and it still is happening. Getting really frustrated....

    It has been happening to me for several months now. Thanks for the suggestions. The only thing that works is keeping at least 4GB of free space. Very annoying.
  • Anyone still having this problem? I find this only happens when when I'm on LTE cellular data, and there are WiFi hotspots around me that I'm not connected to. For example, if I'm at a restaurant and DO NOT connect to their WiFi, and just stay on cellular LTE data, then start the game, it'll ask me if I want to download a huge update over cellular instead of WiFi, and won't let me play until it re-downloads the 800 MB or so of game data.
  • I currently have 200gb free.

    I even went as far as reformatting my device and only trying to have Simpsons Tapped Out on it and still it will not work. I have been playing for 4+ years, spent hundreds of dollars and it not only won't let me do the redownload which it was for weeks, but now says I don't have enough room on my phone at all.

    This is just ridiculous.

    This issue has been around for a long time. I doubt it related to anything specific to 11.4.

  • I’v the same issue on iPad and iphone, both with more than 2 GB free after download and both with all uninstall feauture disabled... my wife with the same situation and same kind of devices didn’t have problems, I think the issue is related to accounts

    You might need 5 gigs or more free and a reinstall, as has been reported by others using IOS.
  • iCloud manages my Photos library on its own, so even when I free up space by removing apps, in 1 or 2 days, iCloud will use the space for the photos. There is no way I can keep the free space just for Tapped Out, and I can't force the TSTO data to stay on my phone even with the uninstall features disabled.
    This is so dumb! TSTO is the ONLY app on my phone behaving like that: who thought it was a good idea to design it that way?? It takes ages every day to re-download everything even though I have a super fast connexion. Downloading again as I'm writing this.
  • Everyday it is requiring me to spend more than a hour redownloading 2G. I have 40G of free space on my phone. It also says my game was played on another device which is not. I am done with this game. I did all these suggestions and nothing changed.
