Having the same problem here. Haven't been able to play since early Friday morning/late Thurs. I'm playing on an Android tablet (Tab 2). Tried my Android phone (S3) and it worked for a bit then crashed and now neither work. Please fix this soon!!
Update: I picked up my old iPhone 4S running iOS 11.0.3 that’s now just an iPod for me and updated the game to the current STO update and tried to log in. I had to re-enter EA login info and received a notice “your other device did not save your progress” and it asked me to continue or to go to my other device to save it first. I chose to continue and lose the few minutes I played and it logged me in just fine. I can now go back to my iPhone 7Plus and log in and it’s playing just fine. Seems like it got hung up when I was kicked off and wouldn’t let me continue.

I've had this same situation, but then on the second device it also fails to connect after a few minutes or an hour. There's something broken about the server that we are all using.
I have a Samsung Galaxy phone older edition and have been unable to conenct for two days. Randomly tonight i got notifications from the game agian and could suddenly load in again. Didnt last very long.
This better be fixed. AND most important thing - I hope there wont be any progress lost cause then ill shade all the TSTO team. So you devs better work. Work it.
I have issue with accessing the game today for 2 hours not being able to get in. Stuck in the page with the picture of Bart. I am playing with S8+ and latest Android OS.
I have not been able to log in on my iphone (11.2.1) or my ipad (10.3.3) neither of which was a recent update. And on my phone it is not working on cell data either, so it it is not an issue with my home wifi.
update: last attempt to login started a download for an update. this was met with 2mb worth of download followed by the familiar sting of reconnecting and barts smug face. after attempting to download in this manner through 4 reconnects i decided to uninstall and reinstall. i have been able to play since, its only 2 consecutive hours but i hope it lasts.

It’s standard procedure with EA.
This is a longer down time than usual. As for your question, EA rarely communicates to its user base details about server issues, bugs, etc.
No new update for me
