I'm very upset as well. EA majorly bungled the first and last weeks of the Whacking Day event.
I spent 140 donuts to get the motel on the 8th which I could have easily achieved had I known of the extension.
EA knew what they were doing by not announcing the extension, the one thing they know how to do is fleece their customers; I want my donuts back.
Considering EA's history, I'm leaning towards this being more of a shady business decision than an honest communication snafu. I'd love to see the spike in donut sales that happened on May 8th & 9th.
This was my first event so I didn't know they had a tendency to be extended. I only spent $5 anyway, but it adds up. I shouldn't be surprised EA would do something like this to make more money. If only their games were garbage, then at least I wouldn't have to deal with them.
This game honestly requires patience and self restraint. I even had my self in situations of purchasing the premium items because I wanted it all. For the snake event I almost took the easy way out buy using donuts but forced my self to stick it in there. I'm happy, but now I want to continue with the boxes to see what I can get outta them, so far I just got 1K from my first box.
I don't cry about spending money on the game! I'm just upset how EA forced people to spend donuts because they revealed that the event was being extended after the initial deadline. On the other hand, setting a second deadline will force more people to spend donuts.
It's all about getting the maximum amount of money and * the customers.
Forced you to spend donuts? They put a gun to your head and said you better buy donuts and use them to speed things up to,get things that were free? I can understand feeling angry because you chose to do it and then they extended it but in the end you used the donuts because you didn't want to potentially miss out on free items that you thought we're cool and in your mind NEEDED to have in your town but honestly they didn't force you to do anything you decided to do it because you couldn't live without some free buildings.

Those who didn't spend donuts don't get it. You still have a chance to get everything for free. So really your opinion doesn't matter on this particular thread.
I didn't spend any of my money on donuts for wd. I did however use 245 of my donuts to get the motel which I have been collecting and saving for 7 months. EA didn't put a gun to my head, lets not be a smart @**. But in terms of playing the game which should be played fairly they screwed us. I wouldn't have used my donuts had they have not lied in saying the event was ending on the 9th. And we all know how hard it is to get donuts. It'll take me longer than 7 months to get all my donuts back which means I would have no choice but to buy donuts (which I won't be giving a dime to EA if they don't fix this wrong doing)
Yes this is just a game but we deserve to not be cheated. Especially to those of us who actually buy donuts with real money.
You are so wrong at some point during this event I realized I would only have a chance to get Duff stadium at best but I also was fine with that because so what I missed a few prizes. oh well I have more important things I need to spend money on at this time. I have bought donuts several times so that arguement is also wrong as well as the fact that my opinion is just as valid as anyone else here. Sorry that I have self control over not being a completist and having to have everything that they put out for this game
The main reason it's probably been extended is because of the bug at the start where people lost snakes.
Stop buying and spending donuts. Simple. The more people buy donuts the more EA will create premium items. If people don't buy donuts they won't create the premium content and charge for it.
You can't buy something and then complain if things change, anything could happen tomorrow, the world could end, EA could decide to shower everyone with a million donuts, but more than likely you could spend the money and then get an unexpected bill the following day and not have the money to pay it. ( car breakdown, some sort of emergency etc ).
At the end of the day if you can't have something don't get it. A couple of building's in a game you'll probably stop playing soon is not worth it, your just falling for EAs ploy.
For those who can't relate: imagine buying a new 3D hi-def tv and while you're still in the parking lot the store throws its doors open and shouts "Free for all. Get them now, help yourselves!" In that case, you'd stomp back into the store and demand a refund. That's what has just happened to the people who pay the "merchant's" salaries. We demand a refund
Actually, its more like a store was giving out free tvs, but to unlock all the features on the tv you have to sit and watch enough hours of tv. Want your standard def tv to play in high def? Watch the tv for 50 hours. Want streaming Netflix app? Watch it for 100 hours. As the promotion nears an end, people end up paying some money to unlock the last features.
it's totally fine to extend an event because of bugs. Those bugs where at the start of the event... why not announce the extension a couple days after the bugs where fixed? Oo
so, there is only a consequence for me. Don't buy donuts again! Thats the only answer EA will understand.
People who are shooting down others for buying the donuts and spending them to get the buildings are missing the point. What they are trying to say is that due to the limited time is why they went ahead with purchasing those buildings. They thought may 9th was the last day and they wouldn't have another chance to get those buildings if they didn't act fast. The fact that the event was extended meant more time which they could've spent getting the needed snakes instead of using their donuts which is like getting needles in a hay stack. We all know how hard donuts are to come by.
So there is a valid point people who purchased these snake prizes are making, had they not been mislead with the early dead line, they could've saved their hard to come by donuts and worked on getting the snakes.
I got annoyed reading the one member's post who said they spend 7 months saving up their donuts which they spent. I think EA should reimburse the people for not notifying them of the extension at a proper time.
Some people here are criticising those who complain about paying real money in the game and then being mad about how useless it all was, saying we shouldn't blame EA for spending donuts/money, saying we could just NOT spend donuts/money. In short: Some are saying that this is all just our own fault.
First of all, it's kind of hilarious (in a sad way) to see gamers come to EA's rescue from the mighty and horrifying mob of other gamers who feel they've been treated poorly. Guys, seriously, I know you think that you're explaining "how it all works" and that we, who complain, have misunderstood the concept of paying for stuff. But we haven't. And you should really not defend a mega-company like EA in this matter, even if you disagree - they can fend for themselves.
Secondly, yes: We DO understand how the game works and that we don't HAVE to pay money to EA. What YOU don't understand is that we are not angry for paying money - we're upset because the conditions under which we chose to pay were false. You see, even in a game where you pay for virtual stuff - things that does not exist outside the game - the rules and ethics of purchase still applies. It is still a transaction of money and therefore, when you choose to pay EA for something in one of their games, you should expect EA to uphold certain conditions, to uphold a level of respect for their customers.
Yes, you're right: no one forced me or anyone else to pay donuts during the afternoon of the 9th. The fact is that EA had given us the option to pay for the "free" stuff, if the time limit to get it for free wasn't sufficient (and there WAS a clear time limit). In other words, they put a value on those things and we chose to pay. Nothing wrong with that picture. But the only reason we willingly gave EA our money was because of that clear time limit - we obviously believed that after the 9th, there would be no way to get those things. And we really wanted those things (what we choose to spend our money on is our own business, thank you)! Now, when EA changes those conditions AFTERWARDS, they have let us down. And THAT'S what is wrong about all this.
You can say what you want, belittle our arguments and say that it's ridiculous to pay money on this game in the first place or that we should have seen it coming or saying "that's how the game works!" but you can't escape that EA mistreated us gamers by doing a bum-move like that. It's simple: They should have told us at least a day in advance that the event was being extended. Telling us a day after the events supposed end is really deceitful and shows a level of disrespect towards your customers that isn't the least bit flattering.
During the afternoon of the 9th, I chose to pay for the Sleep Eazy Motel, because I really wanted that. And I'm not complaining because I payed for it - at the time I was glad I did it - I'm complaining because I followed EA's rules and they didn't. Of course I would rather still have my donuts to spend on something else, like the new Open Air Stage! Now I'm left without donuts and instead there is only a feeling of betrayal. It's not that hard to grasp. I understand my donuts are gone, there will be no reimbursement. But an apology would at least mend the bad taste this has left in my mouth.
Perhaps a way EA could make this up to everyone is to make one of the premium items free. Such as the stage, which seems to be very popular. Or, if a player already has it, they could get something of equal value in donuts.
It would have been nice if they did away with getting eggs for tapping on snakes and just give snakes. It would be a quicker way of collecting at least.
BTW, what is the point of the pet snake. Ids that going to become another Funzo type thing that just wanders around town until I put it in storage?

Yes, the pet snake is nothing more than a decorative thing. It moves around your town and you can tap it for a visual effect, but it's not a character you interact with beyond that.

Dyl26 put it nicely.

I would give you back the money you wasted if I could, but I don't think that's possible

I still however get a chance to get the last 1200 eggs I need for the last prize.
