Very Pleasant Surprise! (re forum, not game)

It's been quite a while since I've visited this forum, but I'm very happy that I checked in on it today! I don't know what the history behind this is, but the whole tenor of this site seems to have changed significantly for the better than it used to be! I love the new, respectful atmosphere and the more subtle "signatures" people are using (no more large annoying gifs, etc.). Was there a specific turning point/"reboot" (just curious)? If so, how long ago? The difference is very noticeable!

Great job, everyone, on making this a much friendlier, pleasant place to converse about TSTO!

Welcome back. When did you stop visiting the forum and was it still the old one back then?

    Hello @SandraShill :)

The forum still has it's moments believe me...
But mostly changed for the better. Perhaps the new like, insightful and agree buttons helped. Plus you can flag and report easy enough without an argument!
  • Thanks for pointing out those new options...hadn't noticed them yet! :)
  • You'll see you get enough of each you earn a badge it's quite funny... I've never considered myself insightful before :D

@johncolombo Hmmmm....not sure when....I've probably popped in for a quick check on something maybe three months ago, but it's probably been closer to six months or a year (or more?) since I really looked at the forum. My sense of time is pretty bad these days, lol!
  • @0Brooders0 How do you have enough time to post comments regularly on all three sites? Have you found a way to clone yourself? If so, do let me know how...I desperately need a way to double my work capacity right now (not to mention getting personal stuff done, too).
  • I credit mostly myself and my aura of serenity.
  • I'm an addict :#
    I'm also a touk ;)
I'm also enjoying the EA forums :)

I think something weird happened after I got the teleporters ... :p
  • Hi Sandra! So good to get to talk to you! I know we met on the Addicts forum, which is wonderful, but I find too unwieldy to communicate on. I like the topics here. I can read what I'm interested in, but, just, hey, so glad to talk to you, neighbor. Hope you continue to check in.
  • You aren't missing anything I don't think! :cookie:
  • @janis810 Thanks, neighbor! I think chances are good you'll see more of me here go forward. :)
  • @simpsonare - Well, it looks like I've been missing free chocolate chip cookies! ;)
  • This forum allows you to IM. Look for it, I think someone (maybe me) sent you one.
  • As usual, when it changed, all of us old timers hated it. We had to relearn how to get around, and us real old timers (old farts) didn't like the change because, our minds were set at easy, and we had to add cells which were non existent to our brains, because of our mental states. I guess it's okay now, because I've had plenty of time to adjust.
  • @Gary_A_D Oh, I can relate....my company is in the process of switching over from IBM (Lotus) Notes to Outlook and, worse, from our Sametime chatting app (built into Notes) to Facebook's Workplace Chat, which is relatively new and missing tons of helpful features that Sametime has. As an "old-timer" myself, I think the change may be a bit harder for me, too (not from the tech angle, though, since I'm a real old-timer when it comes to online stuff....was using the Arpanet before it morphed into the internet, and used to chat on online bulletin boards (BBSs), and then Usenet, before we had all of these more modern applications.

But the change I was really noticing here wasn't as much about the "mechanics" as the tone....I used to feel that the forum was a much nastier, troll-ish place, with lots of huge annoying gifs in the signatures, and now it seems much more friendly, pleasant, and.....compact?

Okay, enough....sorry about the long response....brevity is not my forte, lol!
  • Most of what you mentioned, I don't know anything about those APPS, but as far as the forums beings changed, EA mentioned things were going to change, including, having a better password than our originals.
