do you think it is okay to copy other peoples stuff? MY FIRST 3D TOWN

Prev134
I visited a friends town and noticed my flower bed had been copied but actually it's quite flattering! I didn't mind one bit

i took a quick visit to most of my neighbors towns to find some of my creations in them. i feel happy that they think my ideas are good enough to put in their springfields but i sometimes read from others they dont like it when their stuff are copied. i see no problem with it as long as they give credit to the person who came up with the design, right?
    Nooooooooo.
I don't like when that happens.

I have a few things in my town that were inspired by others, but NO exact copies. I always give the person credit if I post an image of it.

Only if they ask first. And if they do, I prefer if they make it their own.

I don't mind if they get inspired and do something similar but when I see the exact same thing that I have in my town on their town it kinda annoys me

Wrong. Most people think their ideas have been copied when the reality is that the design choice was so obvious everybody thinks of it. Case in point would be Springfield Penitentiary placed on an island in the middle of a lake (Alcatraz style) or with a moat around it.

People do have some great ideas, generally I try not to take ideas from others but admit I have stolen a few small ideas from my friends. Seeing other people's Springfields will also spark me to think of new ideas on my own.

I do consider that if I use someones idea and they visit my town they may get a little perturbed at me, so I try to stay away from thieving.

I'm not sure, tho, how you would be able to "give credit" to someone for taking their idea.

I don't really mind if people borrow my ideas, because I've taken a lot of inspiration from other users cities on here.

Generally when I see something that I like the feel of, the confines of what I've already got placed and don't want to move, means that I end up doing something that is "inspired by" rather than a copy of someone else's ideas.

    Sneaky, aren't you SeungyeonAngel?

I did mind at first about the copying but as long as credit does go to that original individual then its fine.
Anyway copying is like a form of flattery. If it inspires others to do even more fantastic ideas, then go for it! :)

I dont really care... Its just When you copy someone's idea completely the same I feel that is LAME in all aspects....you have to take it as inspiration for your own design maybe make it better or inspire you to do totally something different you shouldn't just take their work. Where's the creativity? Where's the inspiration? What's the point of the game to look like someone else town?

sometimes ill look at something and recreate it... but only cause it helps me see what looks good and gives me idea, i never fully keep someone elses idea to the exact tee but i have used some for basic foundations and change certain things around to add my own spin to it... and by that i dont mea just changing the tree colors lol

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I don't think I've taking anybody else's ideas but I wouldn't mind if some1 used mine it just means I've done something worth copying.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It's not something that I would do either.

? like to play around with ideas but I've never used a neighbour's design and never will. I like the challenge I suppose to create something different. Now when I see distinguished similarities of my town in others I have to admit that I don't like it.
