This glitch does not come from an update, it has been documented since about last June. The rollback is the only way right now to fix the issue. If you read through my previous posts you will get much more info.
There are backups available, that's what they use to do the rollback and I am unaware of anyone the rollback didn't fix.

Be aware, however, that a rollback may not be a permanent fix. For reasons not entirely clear, once glitched, a game is more likely to re-experience the glitch. Check out the previous posts, as suggested by @Willy9292, for a lot more detail.

A rollback fixed my save... but reappeared less than 2 days later. Something in the current state of my game somehow triggers the glitch. And I've seen it appear yesterday and this morning even though the glitch is currently ongoing in my game (I got the bonus of the day and event finished notifications... no additional change, though I think that I've received no bonus objective for today).

So... a rollback didn't fix my game, we need to know what triggers it if we want to avoid it...
  • This was introduced June 2017 during the time travel event. And has grown to more players each event since then. I have personally been hit with this glitch 10 times over the last 10 months. You can see the original thread on this glitch HERE.

I gone through over 20 EA reps, most of whom simply blew this off by telling me "We are looking into it" or "Just post it in the forums", etc.... But there have been two that have been very helpful. One of them actually found a fix for this glitch (can see that HERE) and another has been trying to connect multiple departments in EA with the person that found the solution to the glitch. Below is the update from him. I I will not hold my breath and I will believe it when I see it, but I do have hope......

    https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/comment/1933765/#Comment_1933765
So, since my game broke with the 2nd login after just 1 hour after it was successfully rolled back, I called EA again on the phone.

This EA rep was sincerely helpful. He asked since my case has a 9 month running history of the progression of this issue, if I could spend some time with him as he loops in multiple departments to look at me case as a means of helping everyone with a general fix.

One reason for this is because my game is one of the RARE instances when an EA rep actually figured what was broken in the game (which was due to bugged variables) and actually did a REAL fix (corrected all the wrong variables) ( https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/comment/1889528/#Comment_1889528 ).

After I explained details of the history of this glitch (including how this has grown to more players with each update since the Time Event last year in June), and how my game was actually fixed, he put me on hold for about 10 minutes as he talked with another tech department.

He came back asked a few more details, and put me on hold for another 15 minutes as he looped in the higher management levels to look at my case that actually showed a proven fix.

He came back and said he is trying to get in contact with the development rep that actually figured out the real fix and is trying to get her and the development team and the upper management levels to talk together to apply this fix for not only my game that is now broken for the 7th time in 9 months....but for everyone.

So after about an hour on the phone.......He did say that the upper management team said that they are getting really close for a public update release fix and hopes this insight into how my game was fixed will help finalize their update for release. He did say that even though there is not an ETA for the release he said that he had collaborated confirmation from both the development team and the upper management that is is coming very soon. When I said that I have heard that for 9 months, he said that each time that is noted in my account by an EA rep there are no notes from the development about this but this time he has this from their team.

He did say that since they are so close to a fix release that rolling back a game right now could actually hinder the benefits of what the upcoming fix would address.

So....can't say anything for sure, but he did (for a nice change) really take the time and was drawing in 3 different departments together (the original EA developer that actually found a fix for my broken game / development team / upper management team) to get a final fix.

I got an update today. When I get confirmation the proposed update is released, I will see if has helped anyone here.......
My main concern right now is with the Character button in the top left not functioning. Our studio team have been made aware of the various issues occurring and I do believe a patch will be going live later on this week so for now lets wait until this patch gets releases and see where we go from here.

I look forward to hearing from you later in the week with an update and if you are happy that most of the issues have been resolved. I will look into granting you a substantial amount of donuts as a one time gesture to thank you for your patience.
  • @Willy9292 The guy that my husband spoke tossed out an offhand comment that "it was happening in his game too" but I found that wholly unbelievable. My husband argued with him for some time, insisting that the rollback was the only fix and stressing that this was NOT the museum freezing glitch but this guy almost seemed to be reading from a script.

I had the rollback a few weeks ago and so far it has not returned. It seems to work for some people and not for others. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I am one of the fortunate ones. I contacted them during the weekday, normal office hours, US time...I wonder if that makes a difference?

“Almost”? Most of these staffers rigidly follow a script when responding to user complaints.

@4kidsandacatdog I feel for you. Most of the reps I spoke to were willing to fight to the end rather than just roll the stinking thing back. From my understanding its a simple thing, and has never taken more than 5 minutes. The key is still getting a rep that A.. cares and B ... knows something. My suggestion is keep pushing until you get one. I ended up having a sort of rant memorized where I went through my issue, explained how its not the freezing issue, when it first appeared, the known solution, etc and ended with So we don't need to talk about this, it does not need to go to studio, so roll me back or transfer me to someone who can. And it still took multiple people.

There may be hope in the patch just noted by LPNintendo (#2) which requires a forthcoming store update. I have been very leery that they could patch the issue without a store update so lets see....

I just got the past mini event glitch for the second time this month.
Occasionally during a new event they allow people to complete old events. I would bet that the corrupt code is somewhere in there. This glitch sucks. It makes me not want to play anymore. However I am inpsired by @hobbesisreal and his paitence. So I will fight on.

And so with you we have the required number for the “Fellowship of the glitch”.

Toil on good fellows. Much adventure awaits. Ghastly near death experiences will question your resolve. But for the few ... so many have already perished.

    Long live the hobbit!

Glad I found this thread as the glitch hit me recently and I had no idea what was going on. I think it started after the last event when Bart and Wendell tasks kept reappearing.

Now, I got prompted to restart Pieman quest, Gil deal for Duff Gardens, can't use the upper left corner to locate characters, recycling has gone back to weekly-only, and friendship points level reset to 1 which sounds similar to other players are experiencing.

Donuts, game level, cash and event progress are not affected so I'll probably wait until there's break between events to request a reset.

@madfish86 remember everything goes back to the date of the rollback so everything you do will be lost. They will need to know a date that is before the glitch hit you also.

  • This glitch is F-ing disgusting EA.

@madfish86 don't wait. Request a roll back as soon as possible. You will lose all progress when they roll back your game.
And welcome to the fellowship of the glitch.

Damn! Didn't think of that and I'm so close to finishing part 1 and there are only five days left. A rollback would take me back before St. Paddy's day.

@madfish86 my suggestion would be finish the act and then screenshot everything, all the building, you cash and donuts and hope for a rep who will give it back...They game me 550 donuts I had lost.

I posted this on the thread about this glitch but thought it might help here too......., it is important that you know that there are currently now two fixes for this issues:
    1. Roll Back Game To Last Working Day. Generally speaking EA will resist to restore any donuts / purchased or earned inventory items that you gained between the roll back date and the current day it is done.

The best way to approach this is to get them roll back your game IMMEDIATELY your game is broken so it is not a big deal of things you might have gained (and will loose) in that last 1-4 days. This small loss is not worth the fight, your game is fixed and move on.

This is often left to the compassion of the CS Rep you are working with. It is easier for them to say just wait for an update so you need to politely but firming insist to roll back your game now.
    2. The second fix is the REAL FIX.....there are now 3 people in this thread that EA has used the real fix for. It is when an EA rep finds the "bugged variables" and corrects them. Once done, the game works again without any loss of progress from a roll back. BUT for some reason 99.98% of CS EA reps do not know a real fix exists, let alone how do to it themselves. Again if you are soooo far along that rolling back and loosing months of donuts and inventory items is not a feasible option then you must remain firm (but always polite) that they find the real fix that has been applied now multiple times to players in this thread.

The best advice to achieve either one of the two fixes listed above that I can give is basically what has already been given by a few others in this thread.......
    • ALWAYS Remain Polite...............You remain firm and polite at the same time. No matter how frustrated you get....no matter how incompetent the current EA CS rep that is working with you at the moment is...... NEVER loose your cool NEVER call them any names. If you use loose your cool and/or use any profanity many CS reps will immediately end your current discussion until you cool off (which truthfully I cannot fault them with).
    • Remain Firm........ I remained firm (but always polite) that there is a fix (and now two fixes) and it is not honest on their part to victimize the customer for their error (i.e. refuse to roll back my account for weeks then when they finally offered to do that they refused to restore the items they encouraged me to buy with real world money and time earned in events because they felt it was too many items because they stalled too long).
    • Do Not Give Up...... It was due to my persistence that finally got me to an EA CS Rep that actually cared enough (or simply knew enough) to take the time to find a way to fix my game the right way. Be mentally prepared that you will go through more than 10 EA CS reps and may take several weeks or months as in my case. I personally went through probably at least 15-20 reps over a 4 month period.
    • I personally advise to also spread the word and make this glitch and the fact there is a REAL FIX as publicly known as possible. If you are involved in other TSTO forums, share it there. Make your voice heard here in this forum. The bigger the spotlight on EA hopefully the more they will simply share the REAL FIX with their own employees to resolve this issue with players so we can turn off the spotlight on them.

I've logged back in this morning and the bug is back. Think this may be the breaking point for me. I cannot be bothered spending ages on the phone again when there's no guarantee that it won't just happen again. Sad that such a major problem hasn't been addressed.

You are not on you're own, since the launch of this mini event I've had my game rolled back twice (with a loss of donuts each time) and it's also supposed to have been fixed by a game specialist and was fine last night at 10pm(UK GMT), I logged back in again this morning only to find the whole thing start yet again so in less than a week I've been hit with this glitch 4 times now and I just can't be bothered to try and get it rolled back/bodged yet again then start to play while fully expecting it to go bad again in a few hours, it's been a great game that I've thoroughly enjoyed over the years but for me it's become time to call it a day, with that I'll say bye to my great neighbours and hope that you never have to put up with this game breaking glitch.
    Gary

So sorry, will miss having you as a neighbor.

Wow after looking at this thread a lot of neighbors of mine are having this problem. So sorry guys, they really need to address this.

I left a bad review at Google play. There sure are a lot of them now. Hopefully ea will take notice.

Also at my landing zone in my town, I spelled out glitch and placed my level 1 redwood tree and money mountain.

I also left a bad review on Google Play. I've just been playing though the game with the glitch. They need to fix this, I'm tired of rolling my game back just for the issue to reoccur. I also Tweet at EA with high hopes that address this.
