ETA on glitch fix?

Replies

  • @Tara1qt I feel you, I was also on the verge of quitting until this major Itchy and Scratchy Land update. The Town Hall has became by best friend. It's so tedious trying to find all my characters, I only send them on 24hr task now.

Is anyone refusing to roll their game back and playing through the glitch because of the amount of content you would lose?

I am - I was hit with the glitch in December during the Christmas event. At the time they refused a rollback and told me to wait it out. I was even "scolded" by an EA rep at one point back in March I think it was, because they sent me an email saying they were going to close my case. I responded with a "Please don't close my case, my problem is still ongoing". The guy who ended up calling me proceeded to be rude and tells me that my responding is just creating more work for them and each time I respond to my ticket it moves me back down to the bottom of the list. Didn't care that I only responded because of their email, didn't care that I had been extremely patient for the last 4 months. Nope - told me I needed to stop responding to my ticket and wait for a fix that was coming within a week.. So here I am today still waiting. I could do a rollback and try to insist on getting all my stuff back but honestly that just feels like more work than I am willing to go through. I am very much on the fence with just quitting the game altogether.

Just when I thought I had heard it all from EA customer service, they find a a way to sink to a whole new low. Pretty sad that a company known around the world for horrible customer service can out do themselves!

@Tara1qt I'm terribly sorry to hear of your experience. No company anywhere in any business should EVER treat a customer that poorly, no matter the circumstances, who is right or wrong, never!

Way to go EA, a new low even for you! And thats not easy to do, considering!

  • People stop complaining about the glitch once this Itchy an Scratchy update came out. I wonder how many people are still suffering from it.
  • I had a rollback just before the new event. Lost most of the previous one, but at least I can now play the current one. The game is working ok for me at the moment.

There are not any reports of new infections being posted which is a considerable change. I have a hunch that EA fixed or band aided the underlying issue, and has prevented recurrences. Those who kept playing and did not roll back appear to be out in the cold.

Yes, I think that assessment is correct. Kind of a good news, bad news situation. I was always skeptical of the proposition that EA was ever going to devise a patch or a fix for games already infected.
  • I'm going to have to roll my game back almost 3 months to fix this. I really don't want to loose everything I earned. Especially for this event

This was the fix. By eliminating krustyland, there would be no 'old' files to revert back to. The update and nuking of krustyland created a clean slate per se for all accounts once they were updated.

Not sure I agree. The “fix” (demarked by the cessation of reports regarding newly-infected games) dates back to sometime in May, well before this event. And (just wildly speculating here) I think the underlying purpose of this event has less to do with addressing aspects of the rollback bug and more to do with conserving server space. But I could be wrong.

As far back as April 3rd in this thread I posted not to wait if you have the glitch, pursue a rollback. Myself and others with more knowledge stressed that players will probably lose all items and progress from the time of the rollback all the way back to the date the glitch occurred. I have repeated that info many times and have watched with great concern as people decided to wait for a patch. It has become pretty obvious that there has been something done to prevent new occurrences, and more importantly there is going to be nothing other than rollback or template town as an answer. I really really feel for people who waited for a patch. I can't see any hope of a good resolution for them, other than lucking out with a support rep who is willing to manually restore everything gained.

I believe some of the players who did the recent rollback are now losing part of their earned donuts whenever they sync the game. It has been 13 days for me since the rollback but the donuts are not syncing properly.

I had that happen in both towns on every rollback. Here is what I did. I figured out the threshold level of donuts. EG. no matter what I earned each sync put it back to say 110. I then did a purchase using donuts that took me below that threshold. Say down to 100. Then I went to friends to sync. On all but one occasion that fixed it. In the other it took a couple more syncs. The secret for me was to go below the threshold which seemed to reset the counter. Not sure if this will work for everybody.

The fix was to change the mode of the database tables to reject invalid values and refuse to update the database record instead of converting them to zero and then doing the update with the screwed up figures.
This prevents the "glitch" from recurring but does not correct the records with the invalid values.

This post and others that want to point to precisely-specified database problems as the locus of the rollback glitch have always seemed a bit speculative to me. It seems like a reasonable hypothesis, but it remains just that, a hypothesis (unless, of course, you’re one of the game developers). Since EA policy in this area is to never tell the user base anything, I doubt we’ll ever get a definitive answer and, to at some degree, I don’t care as long as the game’s been fixed.

I have already bought multiple premium items but it doesnt work. I will probably live with it. Just need more effort to earn donuts

Can you spend them before they "disappear"?

I tried that. But the game is intelligent enough to make sure that this loophole is not used. After syncing, some amount will still go missing.

Just a thought. Sorry you're having all this trouble.

Seems like thing glitch is still wreaking havoc

The warnings were all good intentions but didn't make a difference for those of us who repeatedly insisted day after day after day for weeks and getting repeated refusals. And then some 2 months later after and event or two or more passed they send you an email with will roll back now but you will lose everything gained since.

And then we have to make countless attempts to get someone who will do that roll back and restore everything we got since. I simply have have up. EA egghead lost this paying customer until such time as i can log into a working game without the need for me to do anything between now and then.

This post is implying this event update is the fix to the glitch. Is this true and if your glitched and open the game everything will be working as normal again? If not editing is in order.
  • The nuking of krustyland had nothing to do with the "fixing of the glitch". The suspencion of the glitch was noticed before this event.

The glich was caused by invalid variables in the database record. This can be fixed by a rollback to a time when they were correct or fixed manually.
