ETA on glitch fix?

Replies

  • The glich was caused by invalid variables in the database record. This can be fixed by a rollback to a time when they were correct or fixed manually.

If i call them and ask them to fix the variables manually will they know what I'm talking about to do it then? Because like i said i gave up on dealing with support because i spent weeks and week as again trying to get both a roll back before gaining new stuff and again after with new stuff to need restored to my account and am still sitting with my game glitched assuming that they didn't take the liberty of fixing it on their own since before this current event started.
  • I have repeated that info many times and have watched with great concern as people decided to wait for a patch

Some of us didnt decide anything of the sort. I was DENIED a rollback when my glitch occured. I had no other option. So I waited. I was told a fix would come. Now its been too long to consider that a viable option as months and months of items would be lost. Worse, all the TIME and EFFORT logging in every four hours for weeks to complete these events would be wasted. That is what hurts the most. Its disgusting and horrific for a company to do this.

I feel for you. I was also denied a rollback many times, but through reactivating the ticket and starting new ones I persisted until I got a Rep that did a rollback. This often took ten or more tries. It is a disgusting way to treat people and to be treated. I wish there was an answer but that's up to EA.

Its a sad way to do business, but thats EA for you. I remember reading about people having to call back repeatedly in order to get their game rolled back. Also, after it was reported that it could be fixed without going through all of that, for whatever reason they flat out refuse to do it.

EA so great at keeping its customers in the know about this

I announced a long time ago that they are aware and issue is more complicated than it seems. I'm fairly certain it's number one on their list. When they figure it out we will know. There's probably nothing to say as my theory is patches on updates on patches on new code. There's a lot to dig through to figure this out. Maybe every time they think they have a lead it makes it worse? I'm just speculating but this game has had a lot of code changes over it's almost 6 year run and I'd venture to guess some of the original coders may be gone and the newer people are left trying to figure it out?

I’m gonna respectfully offer a somewhat different view of where we stand at the present. Of course, it’s admittedly speculative and could well be wrong.

We haven’t seen any reports of new infections or re-infections since around early May. Thus, it’s not unreasonable to assume that whatever was causing the glitch has (finally) been addressed by the developers. But I do not think that the problem remains Number 1 on their to-do list. In fact, I would speculate that as far as the development team is concerned this is a problem that they have already crossed off of their list. In other words, we are never going to see the release of a patch that addresses those users who were affected and didn’t opt for a rollback. I hope I’ll be proven wrong, but I don’t think I will.

Of course, if EA were a bit more transparent with their customers about this kind of stuff, all of this guesswork would be unnecessary. Don’t think that your efforts to keep us informed are unappreciated, John. They’re greatly appreciated. But the idea that we’re fed small nuggets of third-hand info about critical aspects of the game’s status from inviduals who aren’t even EA employees is just crazy. What kind of company operates like that? Sorry for venting. I’ll get off of my soapbox, now.

It’s all good KB. I was just trying to offer a ray of hope. I’ve talked to endless EA employees in regards to the glitch, some in person and I never got the impression I was being mislead. what little info I have is what it is. They are aware. It’s complicated. They all seem to care and there’s certainly nothing nafarious a foot. Maybe it was the seperate map and nuking krustyland was the fix?

The fix most likely was the change in the database tables to reject updates with invalid values instead of converting the values to empty strings. The disappearance of the glitch preceded the KL nuke.

The problem is empty strings which are interpeted as zero by the code. EA could simply fix these fields with a simple program:
    1) The simplest is just change the value to the max. After all the glitch people did suffer
    2) update the zero values based on the setting of other database values as the display of the IRS building could not be that high unless it had been earned. The update of the values was done at least once by a knowledgeable EA Rep.
    3) most complicated method is to extract a list of all current glitches players. Use that list to go the the last correct backup for that players to extract the last known correct values. Use those values to update the current database.

I do agree with Krustybrand, this is no longer their high priority. The best we can hope for is a partial fix whenever a future event touches upon the invalid values
  • I noticed that i can rebuild the springfield heights buildings. All my extra storage had been deleted and buildings could not add extra storage. Today i could add extra storage.
No biggie for me as I had paris before the glitch hit
  • Glitched? Check 1 night stan's to if your crosswalks can be created again

I was just hit with the glitch in a town that had not previously had it. Looks like EA is doing a rollback, will advise.

Update: Its rolled back - 2 days. They offered 100 donuts but there is a ton of progress gone. No issue getting rollback. Total time on call was less than 5 minutes.

Good outcome, considering the possible alternatives. Sorry about the lost progress.

Hey neighbor, glad to hear it all worked out well for you. If there is a bright spot, at least it was fairly early in the act, so you have time to make up some progress.

While its not quite the rate as a few months ago, it sucks that this is starting to pop up again! Just when we thought we had seen the last of it!

Just for interest I thought I would post the sequence of what happened. @datasurgeon this may interest you.
I had worked for about 3 hours setting up act 3 from the start. Tons of crafting etc. My phone got down to about 5% battery and power saving kicked in to slow processor. I either missed the 10% warning or it didn't happen. Phone started lagging and it took way longer than usual to exit the game. Plugged in etc. When I went into the game the next time it was glitched, the old daily bonus with a mystery box appeared, for those of you that even remember that.
I got a decent Rep on the call and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He mentioned that the usual reason for the glitch is corrupt data being saved to the server on a sync. He may just be talking out the other end of his body too.
Another interesting thing was that he could not find a backup file for that game for the 29th. I had been on that game from 10 pm to midnight so there should have been one. He did mention that backups are triggered daily when you exit the game and if you exit multiple times it rewrites under that date. Again who knows if he knows, but that would mean if you don't play for a week there are no backups made. As I try to get acts done quickly in case this happens I now will be sure to log in at least once a day to trigger a backup.
Hope this is of some interest to someone. It sucks that its not over I was feeling safe again till this.
