Just for interest I thought I would post the sequence of what happened. @datasurgeon this may interest you.
I had worked for about 3 hours setting up act 3 from the start. Tons of crafting etc. My phone got down to about 5% battery and power saving kicked in to slow processor. I either missed the 10% warning or it didn't happen. Phone started lagging and it took way longer than usual to exit the game. Plugged in etc. When I went into the game the next time it was glitched, the old daily bonus with a mystery box appeared, for those of you that even remember that.
I got a decent Rep on the call and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He mentioned that the usual reason for the glitch is corrupt data being saved to the server on a sync. He may just be talking out the other end of his body too.
Another interesting thing was that he could not find a backup file for that game for the 29th. I had been on that game from 10 pm to midnight so there should have been one. He did mention that backups are triggered daily when you exit the game and if you exit multiple times it rewrites under that date. Again who knows if he knows, but that would mean if you don't play for a week there are no backups made. As I try to get acts done quickly in case this happens I now will be sure to log in at least once a day to trigger a backup.
Hope this is of some interest to someone. It sucks that its not over I was feeling safe again till this.

The rep is most likely correct. The variables on the server are corrupted. The database MySql has 2 modes to save with invalid value
    1) change the invalid values to empty string which programs will interpet as zero (explains zero radius, burns gold and other items back to zero)
    2) reject the update completely. This is what I thought they had done when the glitch vanished. But the old method may have been reinstated
It does sound like some people at EA had read my technical summary

    This is bad news :'(
I thought we had seen the last of it! :#

Not trying to sugarcoat anything, but it is only the second one Ive seen in quite a while. It *s a vast improvement over where we were 3 months ago

I agree. I have not heard of many either and it used to be many a day. I had an interesting time with donuts after the rollback. If I got 1 or 2 out of a box it saved, if I got 3 they were gone next sync. I did every trick I know to get it syncing again and finally about 8 hours later it started working. Lost a couple of hundred in the process. Ran rat traps for about 70 and they were gone next sync as I had gone only for 3. Ran a bunch again trying to get 1 or 2 and they saved. When you don't want 3 it's amazing how often you get em... 18 straight once.
Glad it's fixed itself but wish we knew why this happens. It has happened to me every time I get a rollback.

Someone else here had a lengthy problem with donuts not saving. And it goes away as mysteriously as it comes...

  • As probably the unfortunate world record holder for the number of times of being hit with this stupid glitch.........

.....I am also glad to share I have now (knock on wood) had the longest time without being hit with glitch since they never bothered to announce they apparently fixed it from reoccurring.

..........even though they left the currently hit players high and dry in spite of a proven option to fix the game without loss of progress,

The advice to compile what items you lost and to talk to EA nicely hoping that they will reinstated loss items didn't work for me. Though I communicate via email. I think only two players were given the special treatment from their sharing in the forum.

That's too bad. I have been lucky to get really good reps a couple times, and get everything back. I have had my share of bad reps too, but just close the ticket and start over hoping for better.

EA seems to have settled in to the rollback is the 'fix' of choice, so it should become easier to get that, the issue with other things is harder. I have started taking screen shots of every significant donut purchase, and the items obtained in each act just in case.

@hobbesisreal ... nice to hear you are kinda maybe ok. I had become confident until the last hit. Hopefully this is the end for all of as until the next big glitch. You had enough hits for 10 players.

I got the glitch during my holidays and as I haven't been here for a while I didn't recognise it as "the glitch". I just thought they gave everyone a new chance on old items. I thus kept playing and noticed that I couldn't use the character finder on top of the screen, but nothing else that bothered me....
After my holidays I came here to see if any others experienced the same and found this thread... If I understand well I should as for a rollback, but I don't remember the exact date and time. Is it even possible to ask for a rollback for 3 weeks. And last but not least do I want to loose that much time....what a bummer. :'(

Edit : BTW my glitch appeared during the Krustyland event.....

I believe that they can roll you back to 2014 if you like. The sooner you do it, the less you will lose...

Thanks Dave, well I just opened a case....if there's no way around it.....
  • I've been out of the loop about this for a bit and see no one is talking about tbis anymore. Is there a new fix that I can't find anything about? My game is still very unplayable.
  • @thom4590 I only know of the rollback fix that will nullify all your progress to the point of the rollback. It will also result in a donut harvested not tallied problem after the fix. The further the rollback, the longer you will experience this donuts not syncing properly glitch. They may also offer you a donut compensation for this rollback or you should demand for it.
  • I had this happen last December. I kept holding out until a week ago and got a rollback and everything works now. I talked with an American guy and he says they will not do individual fixes (the bugged variable thing) because they simply don't want to. It's either rollback or template town. They will not restore any lost items but will give you donuts for each week for the roll back.

I'm surprised that they expect us long-time players -- myself included (5 years) -- would think that's acceptable. 😲 I've spent several hundred dollars on this and probably closer to $1000. I'm of the mindset that they either manually fix my game using the known variables that are affected (isn't there a list??) or demand back what I've spent for not making the game playable for me while it is for so many others.

Isn't there anyone who has figured out a way to hack the game back to where the variables affected are back to normal? If there are people who have been able the hack donuts and in-game cash, then why not this? I've never hacked this game for cheats or anything thing else, but something like this seems like a workaround for those who know how and wish to put the time into it wjen EW won't.

Good luck with that but from talking with many representatives trying to get this fixed, they won't do it and they won't tell you any different. They will tell you that a fix MIGHT be coming but they can't guarantee it. It's just their speak to say whatever they have to say. Trust me, just do the roll back and start over how ever far you have. I fought it for too long.

Unfortunately, the glitch was probrably caused by a hacker program effecting other players variable not the user of the hack program. (The fix was most likely a database change that rejected invalid values instead of converting them to nulls or zero).

EA can afford to have a team unsucessfully search for the cause of the glitch but cant spend a couple of days to write a script to fix the variables they corrupted by the incorrect table setting.

Of course, this is all speculation on my part but within 2 weeks of publication of this observation, EA announced a fix.
