Threats because of Tapped Out

Prev13
Take no offence but its a little threat, every famous person is threatened look at Justin Bieber, he's probably the most hated person on earth by loads of people, it doesn't affect him... Maybe he should learn to ignore the ignorant comments.

dominic115, I couldn't help but smile at your comparison.
But to be honest, I do not think you should ever expect threats, because of a hobby.
This guy is not a rockstar. He is a guy like you and me, with a full time job, and a passion for this game.

People threat because they are simple, close minded bigots. Just ignore them. They are just projecting onto other people because they are so small.

Too bad he is getting threats, that's really low... but this game has millions of users, no doubt some of them have a few screws loose.

I'm sure the threats are empty anyways.

I love his site and he is a great guy who does all of that for free. But, trolls are trolls, and this is the Internet. When you create a website that allows comments, there's going to be idiots who abuse it. This has been going on since it was invented, and will always happen. You need to have thick skin to write a blog like that and not be so sensitive. That being said, it's despicable and disgusting anyone would threaten him or his family over tapped out, and no one deserves that, but you expose yourself to that when you create a popular blog that has nearly 10 million hits, of course there's going to be a small % of nutjobs. By taking time off and not writing the blog, he's letting the trolls win, and giving them exactly what they want. I know he visits this forum, so Mr. Tips, don't stop writing the blog, and don't take any time off, don't let the trolls get what they want!

That's horrible!! I've never heard of his site before but I'm going to have to check it out. I can't believe people are getting so bent out of shape about this gun quest! The Simpsons have made fun of right wing stuff alot. I'd have guessed it be Lisa hating on the NRA but its just a game! People need to calm down. Milhouse and Bart aren't real. Neither is Herman. Or Granpa.

Chill out guys and just have fun!

Every day there are two sites I visit on a regular basis. This forum and http://tstotips.wordpress.com/ .
Today on the TSTOtips blog, I could read that the blogger would not write for the next few days, since he has received threats to him and his family, because of the dialogue in the "Military Antiques" quest where Milhouse and Bart are making fun of the NRA. :(
I am absolutely horrified that anyone would threat another person because he quoted a game.
I think we should all support this poor guy, who actually made one hell of a blog, that he updated several times daily, and did his best to answer all our questions. It is a very sad topic for my first post, but none the less, I think it is not something any of us should accept.

    Sincerely

    Mikmon100

Yeah, this was so far over the line, it is not funny. All the blog did was post the text of the dialogue, not a point of view. It does not in any way, shape or form justify death threats against the blogger or his family. Congratulations, thugs, you may have just killed a valuable useful blog viewed by over 9 million people because you could not take a joke.

I'm tired of this mindset too. That because it's the internet we need to expect trolls and bad behavior. That if you are threatened or hurt by words you're too "sensitive". Words have an impact on people. I know you aren't condoning anything, but this mindset that "well it will just happen, better get a thicker skin" I feel is the wrong approach. That site needs moderators, lots of them, like how this site will flag you down if you make too off color a joke. Moderation works. But we also need human decency and a general sense of etiquette to seep into the internet. Enough of this 2edgy4me 4chan stuff.

He does moderate the comments and that's why he's taking time off, because he's fed up with having to delete so many idiotic posts. I understand what you're saying, but you can't police the Internet like real life. Trolls will never go away and they'll never stop trying to get under someone's skin. You can't stop everything, you just have to ignore it and not let it get to you. I agree that words hurt, but words from some low life hiding behind a computer screen??? Yeah, sorry, that's not going to bother or effect my life one bit. I could care less what some troll writes or says to me on the internet.

I'm not talking about just him and his friend moderating, I mean an actual team of 8-10 of trustworthy people to moderate around the clock. And yes, you clearly can police the internet, but not like real life. In most countries you have freedom of speech and such, the only rules on the internet are what the website owner says are the rules. he can outlaw articles and verbs and no one can do anything. But that's the point, a good community has rules. And there are many ways that words can get to you, even from some lowlife scum. Constant and incessant threat, having ethnic slurs and slurs based around your orientation that you've heard all your life thrown at you by a band of trolls, threats on you family... I'm sure everyone is gonna shrug their shoulders and say "so what", but not everyone is going to take those insults the same way you hypothetically would.

Oh I get it, I completely get it now, that's why they said 'there was no punch line to this quest' it was because they knew they were stepping on toes, bringing a debatable topic to a game, so they didn't conclude it. Wise but also cowardly, stick to your guns (pun intended) Simpsons when your selling your views or keep politics out if it. What next a gay parade?

Just for the record, I'm very liberal, and love all kinds of people, and have no bias, or judgement of anyone, but there needs to be a bit more .....judgement about sensitive topics. Especially when it's meant to be a game you choose to play to escape from reality for half an hour.

What if you received a PM from someone saying they knew where you lived and were driving down to kill you. Would you still ignore it? I know I wouldn't. I can ignore most comments, but I'm willing to bet a death threat would give you chills down your spine.

Never said it wouldn't freak me out, but what am I supposed to do? Live scared and let it effect me??? Not a chance, I'm going to go about my day as I always would and he should do the same. You let these people get to you and they win because you're changing for them. I'm not gonna let anything anyone writes to me online, including a death threat, effect my life. Life is short, if you let people get to you, then I feel bad for you.

The internet is a creepy place though.
And when you have such high volume of hits as Tips has, there's no doubt you can visualize someone with nothing better to do than to start looking for personal information and ways to further harass.
    Or even worse...
Can't blame the guy for being cautious.

Responding to a troll isn't always losing. If someone issues a death threat with your personal info and you track their IP and report them to the police I think that's justice served.

I didn't say it would stop you living your life but you do agree that a comment made on the internet has effect, that was the basis of my comment. You said in your earlier comment it wouldn't bother you. It wouldn't bother me either if it was just me they were threatening, but if someone wanted my family dead, it would resonate a little more than it should.
