Probably been playing for a while and had a lot of cash stored up. If you are like me and only been playing for about 2 months your just playing the original quest line still. Your friend has probably been leveled out for a while and is still playing a lot.

one could speed up tasks using donuts. some people might have hacked their tapped out so they could have infinitely many donuts for free. some other people are just filthy rich

I've been playing for 12 months have a few million stashed away but my point is you still have to follow the quest line and the very first is Homers "swear at the sea"for 12 hours and whatever may follow I assume will take some time to complete?

They used doughnuts to speed up the complete times and such. I have seen others do it as well. They dont want to wait so they use doughnuts to get everything faster.
