Do I just not understand this pattern? I’ve now followed both layouts and have not found any rocks or relics until I’ve uncovered every square
When using the pattern, you're watching for the "clue rocks", which flank the target on each side. Once you see a patch of clue rocks, abandon the pattern and dig by the rocks to find the target.
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!
lol pretending like this pattern will help with anything. Theres no such thing as "clue rocks" its all luck
There are clue rocks, as shown in the images below. Once you find one of these, you know the relic will be adjacent to the clue rock. Using the pattern will help you find the relic in the fewest number of shovels.

Edit: The post above by @cvax7 is the diagram I used to use. Take your pick.
Yep. That's the one we settled on during TTT.
In the (up to 4) locations adjacent to the relic, you will find rocks. Same as the previous dig.
It the same, with the 4 stones placed around the relic
amazing, i hit on the center of the relic 3 times without discovering the partials....
thanks for the clarification guys.
@ghallmark814 it was a team effort of a few of us - thanks. I still managed to remember the pattern though
edit: this was the first draft, the second pic in this thread was the final version
And yes this one was the final pattern that was the most efficient and had better coverage.
I just remember where the first hit is then I remember it’s like moving your knight on a chessboard .
