Random Characters no going on auto missions

Anyone else experienced some characters not going on missions when using the auto jobs manager?

Last week it was grandpa, and today it's 2 school bullies. Sorry I don't know their names.

They don't have any missions waiting, no daily challenge involving them. I just want to be sure I'm not missing something.

Sometimes there's a mission planned, so they don't auto start.

With this event, characters can be enchanted and turned into minions. Tap on them to free them, then send them to work.

I noticed this as well

They got turned into vampires. They don't get sent because they're possessed. Once you click on them, they turn back to their normal self (and you collect the event currency).
